"Danke" to the greatest professional athlete in the history of Dallas, TX. This is not so much of a highlight video as it is a story.
The story is told in 3 chapters:
1. Intro - Setting the stage. In the summer of 2014 Dirk was an UFA and potentially looking to leave to pursue one more shot at a championship. The Mavs were failing to put a winning team around him the 4 years after winning the championship and it was discouraging to him. The intro also sets up the rest of the video, showing us the kid from Würsberg, Germany who would eventually be drafted 9th overall. Song: The Mighty Rio Grande by This Will Destroy You
2. Chapter 1: Dirk's early career. The Steve Nash combo, and friendship as well as the years after Steve Nash, which included making it to the finals and losing, becoming the 1 seed the next season and an MVP and then losing in historic fashion in the first round. There were so many good moments and bad moments in Dirk’s first 10 years, but they all made Dirk who he is now. The successes and failures. All of these things made him who he is. Song: I Am by Awolnation
3. The Plateau: This is where Dirk did it. He solidified his legacy as a legend. The mood of this chapter was intended to capture that moment of success you get when you feel like you’ve reached the highest point of what you were trying to achieve. The song used for this scene was: Outro by M83
We will always love you, Dirk.
Music:
The Mighty Rio Grande - This Will Destroy You
I Am - AWOLNATION
Outro - M83

He is the most inspiring person whether you are a basketball fan or not. His values and attitude is worth emulating. He should have won two rings though but regardless, no one stopped him in becoming a champion and it is really amazing. To me he is GOAT.

I Think I've Watched Their Championship Win A Million Times. The Entire Dallas Franchise Deserved It But That Dirk MOST DEFINITELY Deserved It. Being From Dallas And Going To A Few Games And Being Able To See Him In Action On The Court From The 2nd Row Was Amazing. He Will Most Definitely Be The King Of Dallas Forever💯

Dirk carried his team to championship without any other all star in his team, he stayed and remained loyal to Dallas Mavericks, the guy even took paycuts just to let his other teammates play on the court. He is and will always be a champion on whatever court.

I think we all would, my friend. Dirk is a hell of a guy. I could have made this thing 45 minutes long if time allowed, easily. He's that interesting of a person. I think most people in/around Dallas feel like Dirk is a part of the family. He's meant so much to us.

Funny, I'm a UNC fan and more of a college basketball fan in general. Not even a pseudo-Mavs fan or along those lines. We offered this kid from Oklahoma (Brady Manek) a few hours ago and I came to KZfaq to checkout his game. Instantly I thought of Dirk, as I'm guessing he modeled his jumper after him. Next thing I knew, I've spent the last two hours watching Dirk highlights and it ultimately led me here. First off, well done. Strong Friday Night Lights vibes and I mean that in the most positive way possible. I don't normally comment on videos, but this one compelled me to say I've always admired Dirk's perseverance from afar. His basketball story is something that seems so rare in this new NBA world. Where you have players jumping from team to team, after their rookie deal, trying to create a bunch of mini-super-teams with their buddies like it's AAU. Or some taking their supermax and then forcing a trade... I probably sound like an oldhead and that's fine. Dirk's champion is far more valuable than giving your team 2-3 years and trying it again for another franchise and I have zero issue fighting on that side of the argument. If he never won one like other greats did (including one featured in this video), so what? Championships are something to be earned. Bravo, Dirk. He earned his and all the respect he gets for who he was as a basketball player and person.

We all know he's a legend in the DFW area but most people i hear describe him as an even better person off the court. That's genuine. Watch the episode when he got punked. My man was signing autographs for a little kid who took it to far. He had Dirk sign another player's jersey. I've enjoyed the ride with him with the "ups and downs" as he likes to say.

Gieson De la Torre song 1 at the very beginning of the video is called The Mighty Rio Grande by This Will Destroy You. Song 2 which chronicles dirks successes and failures in the earlier parts of his career is called I Am by Awolnation. (All of these things made me who I am-that was the theme I was going for there). Song 3 is Outro by M83... Its supposed to symbolize Dirk finally reaching the plateau. Becoming legendary. Dirk was already a legend to Mavs fans but this part of the video was designed to capture the feeling that we all get when we think of “Dirk.” Just an amazing man. Amazing ball player. And a champion.
