More like Adler. Dave will tell you that. Although, Kiko and Dirk is like having Marty and Gar in the band at the same time. They are very much in that style. Dirk is the only drummer since Gar to play Gars parts correctly, and Kiko injects much needed melody into the solos.

I still can't deal with anyone saying Gar was not the best guy for Megadeth. I was a teenager in the 80's and he was a god to us. The first guy to really bring a jazz drummers sensibility to metal. Still haven't seen anyone quite like him in metal. Not one drummer since has been able to duplicate his feel. Jimmy came damn close. The album Vinnie is on I can't even listen to. it's not Megadeth to me....

I dont know if he could or could not. But he didn't play it in the live performances and also in the drum cover he did a few years ago. That roll is gar signature roll. And Dave mustaine said in the Peace sells remastered interview (2003) that no one could emulate that, Degrasso was close in my opinion. And here we are, Dirk playing gar fills like it was supposed to. Bare in mind that, again, dave said that dirk reminded him a lot of gar's playing. Nick was a beast, there is no point denying that, but gar, gar was unique because he had a different mindset and style of playing, he was jazz fusion drummer, not a metal one. With that said, Dirk playing both menza's and gar's drum parts to perfection is something to aknowledge.

Maybe by you. But to many of us who were listening before Nick was there that’s not the case. Nick was good, but in Megadeth Gar is unmatched. Dirk is the closest thing to him. Having seen Dirk live multiple times with Soilwork ,Megadeth falls well inside his skill set. He can do Gars jazzy fluidity and groove justice, while easily matching Nicks speed, precision and power.

People complain when someone plays it like the record, people complain when someone adds their own touches, people are hard, people are shit.

He uses a high picthed snare often... in soilwork he used even Picollo snares instead of using deep snares. I think the toms on his kit are high pitched too, they are not so heavy on the touch and "sings" on those relaxed fills.Adler used to have a very high pithed snare also, the guy was using a reggae snare on metal! Proving that everything is about taste and identidy with the sound you enjoy

It sounds like they were taking feeds from the board for this video. A cracking loud snare in a big space bounces around like crazy. You have to back them off a bit, otherwise you end up drowning out other things and it all gets a bit buzzy. Clamp down on them with a noise gate so you get the crack of the snare, but shut it up so it doesn't continue to reverberate over the successive snare hits that are coming up. It sounds a little funky listening to the dry track, but it works live.
