"I told Dad I want to get some cows just to watch them grow and then eat'em." I laughed out loud Brandon! So matter of fact - It made perfect sense to me - in fact I wish I could help you eat'em 😊 I laughed because you are so connected to the land and what it takes to be a great farmer and I immediately thought about the city folks who have no idea where their food comes from. You are a good man. You're folks must be so proud.

Besides chores, grinding feed was my job every weekend in high school. Used a Arts Way grinder mixer and a narrow front Deere 4010. Watch the duals and the cab when you are turning!

One grinder/mixer we had was so rusty inside, it wouldn't unload. After clean out, I climbed in with a cup brush an 4 inch grinder. Then painted the inside with slip plate. Doc

I always wanted one but, we were mostly row crop and grain farmers cotton, grain sourghum, winter wheat and rice. A scattering of feeder pigs over the years. Never enough to justify a mill or mixer just not the direction we were going.

looks like a good piece of equipment We had a no name feed grinder in the 70s we used to make cattle & pig feed,, dad would get salvage feed, grain (old)we spent many a day grinding ruff hay (maze stalks & the like) mix with grain mineral & meal made some pretty good feed, got a box car full of old corn meal one time (had weaves in it) we got tired of opening the boxes & just put them through the grinder box & all Good Times

I spent a lot of time grinding ear corn through a 1150 for a dairy in north central ill. I ground 7500 bu. of ear corn every year . Now it sets unused for over 25 years . I do not know if the owner will sell it for parts. He has a new fill auger drive shaft for it .

Screens appear to be 1/2" it'll grind corn to a flour consistency I'd look into getting 3/4" or larger screen Always good vidjeo

I got a John Deere 400 from the first farm I worked on. It was bought new in 1967 along with a 4020 and a 4 bottom plow. Originally it ground a couple batches of ear corn a week to feed dairy cows plus it mixed feed in the winter for a couple hundred ewes and about 300 lambs. Some time in the early 80s he bought a 135 Gehl to do feed for the cows and used the 400 for the sheep. In 2000 the cows were sold and he didn't use the 400 anymore. I bought it in 2008 to grind feed for my steers and sheep. The machine that interests me the most is corn shellers, big ones. Some day soon I would like to buy a John Deere number 6 or possibly a Minneapolis Moline model E.
@dirtgrainsteel2 жыл бұрын
That's cool!....a corn sheller is definitely on my list also I've got a cousin that has a Moline but it could be a E I've never really paid much attention to it I've seen it several times in the shed but I really want a deere there was one on a auction a few weeks ago and I should have bought it the cob conveyer was destroyed but was all there I could have built a new one it probably brought nothing on the sale

Looks to be in great condition and the scales are a big plus! I wonder if the old grinders were designed to work with a PTO brake; good thing the engine was throttled down before stopping the PTO.

I've spent many hours in front of that shute grinding hay, straw and grain. There should be 3 screens for different feeds. Keep smilin

That's what I'm short is the screens and he's not sure where they went he's going to look around and see if they are around some place if not I'm sure I can find them somewhere

You will need much coarser screens for cattle feed vs hog feed.
@darrenblattner25082 жыл бұрын
@@mfreund15448 we used the fine screen for grains. The second screen for hay and the big screen was for straw for bedding in the barn. I forget the sizes but I believe the big screen had 3/4” holes.

I imagine the screw augers have lost a good amount of their diameter (pretty well worn out) after all the years of use grinding for large numbers of cows and pigs. Would you add weld to the wear edges or buy new augers? I wonder about the cutting edge of your flails (hammers) too. I'd imagine there pretty far from factory spec's too. Obviously it runs and grinds - just wondering about your goal before you bought livestock. ☺
