I don’t understand. Taking the daughter from the father is not necessarily the best option. Perhaps a rented one room apartment subsidised for them would be better. Think how scared the girl must be. And social workers can check on them if need be. She’s 15, at the age when she’s very vulnerable. So unless her dad did bad things to her, efforts should be made for both.

I may be wrong, but there is a chance that the father may already own a hdb flat (he needs to have a registered address somewhere), which would cause the subsided rental request to fail. There's a high chance that social workers worked this case and assessed that the father may not be in the best condition to take care of the child.

The father is a single dad. The girl is his only child. If he leaves her at home..who would take care of her? How is he going to make a living? He then has to hire a helper at home! I see the father trying hard to cope although there are some unanswered questions about her schooling etc... Living in the market was not ideal but was his solution! What else can he do? But one thing for sure.. he loves his daughter... taking away his daughter will break his heart❤ I hope everyone comes out a winner ...

This really breaks my heart. I couldnt even watch the video after reading the headline. Please can the govt stop focusing on birth rates when there are living walking kids suffering from lack of proper care due to irresponsible/helpless/whatever parents! 😭😭😭😭😭

Foster care isn’t a long term option….girl’s father will always come back n look for the girl…..investigate deeply and find out how did it happen….no home to live in? Solve both father n hairline problems

Assess the father the earnings stable let him have a rental home so that daughter able to unite with father…..Plus educate the girl basic routine care and education……. What’s the point of resurfacing this news again? Why bother sending journalists down the site to make a “mini report”? To shame the father’s mistakes and the girl’s story again? Don’t see how this video helps the family at all. Sure you can list down the helplines at the end, but this could be done when the news first surfaced. No need for another headline news and show the ugly living space of the child. Reporting news and creating “content” for the sake of views

There are many experts in the comment section that thinks they have a perfect solution to the problem. msf had obviously assessed their father-daughter situation and deem that the girl would have better chance to readjust to society by placing her in foster. There were so many nuances that were not disclosed, perhaps the father could be ill-treating or giving minimal attention

The father’s action is horrified, he didn’t protect the child, he is mentally unstable. He is just putting her in a cage. In this new age still residing in stall and relieving using pail, it is unimaginable. I agree with Ms Tin, I think she will do her part to monitor the situation. She is a very respectful woman.

Foster care? So taking the girl away from her father? Separating the two who have come to depend on each other. Foster "parents" might abuse the girl, sexual assault. It's not good for the girl to be separated when she's been looked after by her father since young. If you cannot help financially, don't make things worse, don't take things away from people. Because of the report, they are separated, you don't feel bad?

@@kengleetan63 As I've mentioned, my answer will be Yes. Singapore gov give them PR. It is a social contract that is not written. I mean besides the formal legal contract. The PRs serve a function and the Singapore Gov need to take care of those who are not doing well enough to their expectations. In some other countries, it may not be an issue. but in Singapore, everyone needs to follow the SOP.

Try that in truly first world country and you see whether you could even step inside there ,let alone remain there on scheme such as PR. Is that clear?

Such mentality is the product of Singapore gov 's education system. In a truly first world country, all the asylum seekers go there, for free money. First world countries give free money, lodging, jobs are plenty. but they can survive on welfare especially if they have kids. Is this case a terrible case of social problems ? Actually, got a case kid died due to torture by one of the parents. and first world countries, got some cases of dungeons and sex slaves, who are abducted. First world easy to buy guns. Violent crimes are many. Drugs plenty. I wouldn't want to live in first world countries.

Shameful to whoever that seperate her and her father.. there is another better way to handle this.. singapore such a rich country why not raise fund to rent them a simple hdb for long term? And provide them basic necessities…This is absurd!
