Do you ever get large streaks from the pressure washer after the water dries? As in the concrete is clean but not as well as other spots. It is kind of like striping for lawns but surface cleaners.

It's all in the washer and not the rotary cleaner. Karcher do one for there range of washers but they just lack power. I personally don't like them and find they don't give a consistent level of clean. They are good on concrete but tend to struggle on other surfaces.

Hi Phill, excellent videos! Very helpful. I do a bit of patio/deck cleaning up here in the Highlands (sideline to handyman work) and was wondering about a better attachment for my pressure washer (15 liters/minute, 15hp). I have the whirlaway you're using in the video, and most of my jobs so far have been for block paving so this device just doesn't quite have the oomph needed (especially for weeds in the gaps). It's great for me staying dry mind you! Was wondering about a turbo nozzle, any suggestions for decent ones at a reasonable price (i.e. not £1600 like the other one haha)? Many thanks in advance. Paul

Hi Paul, yes rotary cleaners do lack any umph. So long as you have means to attach a turbo nozzle one from either PA (Italy) or suttner (German) will give you trouble free life. I've had a PA one now for 5 years and it's still going strong. Have a look at my video comparing a suttner and pa and how they work. Just click through my video list and it maybe one of the first ones I did. Phill

That looks a v. good tool if used correctly. I have a 14" whirlaway and following your advice I will have to check the nozzle size. I am due to upgrade to a 21LPM 3000PSI machine so I will have to find out what nozzle size I need and also what nozzle size is already fitted to it. I am assuming I need 2 035 nozzles for the new machine. Best regards Mick.
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 7 жыл бұрын
Hi mìck, yeah on that pressure and flow machine it should run 065 nozzle so on the whirly it would need 2x 035 like mine. If the nozzles are too small it won't run full power. I like the whirlaway on some jobs but I find it's just too heavy to keep lugging in and out of the van. I have tried it a few time on block pave and just doesn't give me consistent cleaning results that I'm happy with. It tends to leave a lot of stripping if your not careful with your movement speed.

jon sproull I price per sq M. My rate varies from £2 - £1 per sqM. The bigger the area the cheaper it gets. I will clean up to around 180sqM- 200sqM a day before I'm knackered but it depends on the stone type and also the water pressure from the property.

Hi, can I ask what you do about water retrieval? Is it ever an issue that you leave water on a property? Thank you.
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 7 жыл бұрын
No Speaky Gaming hi, the water should drain away. at worst the area will be wet. If the area has bad drainage then you will need to either manually scoop it up or get a wet vac like I have. I always assess the area when quoting to ensure some sort of drainage. it's not uncommon for water to drain towards the property and then there is no drain or it is blocked. You can buy whirlaways that connect to an industrial water retriver/vacuum but they mega expensive and massive. I think I have maybe 2 out of 20 jobs that have a drainage problem. just keep my wet vac on the van, that thing will suck up anything, water, sand, moss.

Its hard because its a seasonal job and runs from March to September. Then it can be full on the rest of the year, so doing it part time professionally can be hard to make enough in a short time. Most jobs can take 2 or trips depending on the job. Proper reliable equipment doesn't come cheap and you can spend several thousand on getting a decent setup that will last long term. Honda engines are pretty reliable but its the pump that does the hard work.

@@davespotlesscleaning3897 no worries, it does depend what pressure your machine is too. But judging by the fact you use an 070 turbo then 035 in the WW would be best. @@DirtyDriveAway Thank you Phill, its 3000 psi, I will try 015 too just to see results but yes I have left wheel marks on 2 driveways already with 025 just by holding it little bit too long in one position with trigger on, sometimes concrete surface can suprise. @DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 5 жыл бұрын
@@davespotlesscleaning3897 yeah 025 are way too small for 3000psi 23lpm. I'm surprised it runs well, if you dont have a pressure safety relief valve installed on your pump then your probably well over pressurising the pump etc on those nozzles. I dont actually like surface cleaners as they just don't give a consistent level of clean, too much stripping and missed areas. Also make sure your rotor arm height is set correctly, should be about 1-1.5" from the ground.

First of all i want to thank you for all your video because you like to share from your experience and you are not selfish :) . Just a small curiosity: what is your opinion about roof cleaning? @DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 7 жыл бұрын
bostan george thank you. As for roof cleaning, it opens up a much bigger risk factor. You need to clean the roof from the top down, this is to avoid spraying high pressure water up under the roof tiles. I think there may be dedicated equipment for use on roofs but not sure. Also liability insurance would go through the roof, working at heights is something insurance companies don't seem to like. If your not careful with where the water goes it can do real damage. Also when cleaning a roof you will need to factor in equipment for cleaning the gutters as that's where a lot if the muck will end up. The rest will end up on the driveway and patio so you'll probably end up clearing that too. Sounds like a lot of hard work and possible expense. Can't say I've seen many roof cleaning companies or what the demand for work is like. best of luck. phill

Hi Phil,whats the best stuff to shift oil/coolant stains on block paving?
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 7 жыл бұрын
michael kilner hey Michael. To be honest the success rate of fully removing any stain will depend how long it's been there. You can probably remove the stain colour by simply washing liquid, but it will most likely leave a residual stain. depending how big it is resiblock OR is quite good. or I have used lithofin products to great success on natural stone. Other option is to replace the affected blocks as they are usually only 40p or so each for conventional blocks. They will just need time to weather in.
@michaelkilner5031
@michaelkilner5031 7 жыл бұрын
Dirty Drive-Away Thanks phil. I cleaned a patio and flagged pathway today and as there was gravel along the edges I used a fan nozzle to accurately edge it as opposed to getting my surface cleaner battered by stones. Unfortunately the nozzle gave a better clean than my surface cleaner as I could see a brighter stripe along the edges. I ended up removing the surface cleaner and doing it all with a turbo nozzle. Best regards Mick.
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 7 жыл бұрын
michael kilner hey Michael, turbo nozzles are great but not without its drawbacks. for example I rarely use them on concrete or crazy pave as they tend to leave it a bit stripy/patchy. my turbo nozzle only really comes out on block pave. I use my vario nozzle for everything else as you can adjust the fan angle from around 60 - 0 degrees meaning you can alter the spray concentration on the go without switching lances. You should get yourself one, you will thank me. I managed to get an interpump one that's rated 250bar. Most available ones are only 200bar. Think it's called interpump multireg. They a bit more expensive than the others but so far no blockages or maintenance needed. I actually used my rotary on a block pave job yesterday. It was a light grey block which goes dark when wet, it wasn't overly dirty or weedy so it was quite hard to see where you've cleaned using the nozzle. It done the job quite well but I did have to have the washer on full power in order tobhet the rotary to clean well enough. That's the big downside to the rotary cleaners, they really need high power to do block pave. Then on concrete etc you can get striping if not used on high enough umph. If I can find the link to the vario i will post it. phill

It won't pump out anymore water than what your pump will output. The nozzle governs the pressure, the only thing fitting a larger nozzle will do is decrease the pressure. If you want less pressure just back the throttle off. Although the last thing you need with these is less pressure, they lack proper power at the best of times. If you think your going to cause damage using one then it's better to use a different tool.

Thanks for answer, if i will start i will go for "young roofs" ( 15 years old maximum), and then you don't need to use a very high presure because it will be a easy dirt (trafic film). Using a good solvent on a young roof i belive it will be necesary only a brush and a soft or low pressure wash . I never do it but i think is logik to be like that. Sorry i don't want to keep you with my crazy theory but i belive in a better education of the houses owners , to let tou clean them roof when the dirt is only a trafic film and in this way they will have forever a brand new roof

@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 5 жыл бұрын
To be honest I don't like the quality of cleaning a surface cleaner produces. Some people are happy with just the speed but I care more about the overall finish. You can use these on pretty much any machine so long as they are jetted accordingly, obviously the lower the flow rate on a machine the less effective the it work. They have great difficulty removing deep weeds and moss on block paving, and invariably leave striping if your too quick with the movements. On large concrete areas they are quick an efficient but because the heads at a fixed height you have to be careful around areas of broken mortar and pointed joints as they can break them out which in turn can cause large chunks to smash up onto the rota head. They have there uses and some people rave over them, not for me as they don't give a consistant quality clean even on my 3600psi 5.75gpm machine. If all your doing is concrete then they are great.

wow 1000L is massive, the weight on that alone will be a ton. Depending on how big areas your cleaning a 400-600L should be sufficient. Will save on weight and payload. When im hooked up to customers supply I rarely run out of water with my 400L tank and thats at 23LPM. Admittedly I have 2 garden hoses running to my tank. Your really gonna feel that amount of water sloshing around inside the van, most people would trailer that amount of water. The other downside to taking the washer out the van is that you will need a long suction/delivery hose from the tank to the washer. The longer that hose the harder job the pump has at getting the water. Thats why they normally come supplied with around 10M of delivery hose, much more and the pump will struggle. Only possible way around that is to double feed your pump.

@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 6 жыл бұрын
Matt Murphy depends what sort of stone it is. Hypo will help lift residual dirt and algae but it is expensive stuff and can be quite time consuming if its not really needed. You are best to jet wash first and then assess the finish. Some people spray the hypo first like a pre treat/softwash but the problem then is is if you go at it with a jet wash without rinsing it will spray the hypo everywhere. Also by jet washing first you cut through most of the muck first and give the hypo an easier life and a better result. I would use a 50/50 hypo mix ans see how that works. 20-30 mins shoumd be enough to lift dirt and algae, lichen will take a good couple hours. Sprayers should be viton sealed or the wont last long, even good viton sprayers dont tend to like hypo above 10% left in them so always rinse the sprayer afterwards. Adding a scent/essence will help mask the chlorine smell, which tends to go a bit rank when mixed with dirt/algae. It will destroy your clothes so wear old ones and ive found it strips the waterproofing off waterproof trousers too. It has also started to degrade the rubber on my boots. All part of the job i guess.

If your serious about doing some patio/driveway cleaning then you will need to invest in a better machine. You wont need a water tank for a karcher as it is a positive feed machine and runs off a garden tap, hence the low flow rate that they kick out is so low. The karcher range of home washers are fine for the home user wanting to get clean there own patio, but for a proper clean and longterm reliability you will need more power. Phill

Dirty Drive-Away thank you so much for your fast answer . What will be the minimum bar pressure /flow rate that I will need to do a similar job with yours . And if you can recommend the machinery as well. I will love one like yours but my van has limited space . Is it extremely recommended to have water tank ? I saw your video about flowing rate I am just concerned about the space .

@DirtyDriveAway 6 жыл бұрын
Gotoi George - Valentin well my washer is 250bar at 23litre per minute but will set you back around £3000. For any professional grade jet wash it will nees a water tank. The max flow of a garden tap is between 9-15lpm a proper washer needs to take more water than a tap can supply hence why you need a storage/buffer tank. To give a professional clean you need to turn up to a job with the right gear. You would ideally need a machine of around 200bar and something around 18lpm flow rate. If you watched my video on pressure and flow you would understand that flow is important. Yoy can have all the pressure you want but if you cant get the water out quick enough then its useless. I would expect you would need to spend around £1600 on a machine that would tackle the tasks. Just make sure to invest in good quality components if you want the machine to last more than a year. I started off with a 200L water butt, it done me well for 2 years but on hot weekend days the water pressure/flow from customers taps drops off due to demand, i was then constantly running out of water so i knew i needed more water storage. Also bear in mind that water is heavy, you need to make sure whatever van you use has a suitable payload capacity. Most small vans only take around 400-500kg which isnt a lot. 1L of water weighs 1kg and a good washer will probably weigh in around 100-150kg plus all your other gear, hoses lances etc etc. Good kit takes up lots of space, i have other videos on equipment which you may find useful. You dont need it all but it will give you an idea. Phill

Even if the video is 3 years old... i like to tell you that if you have a circular opening of 0,7mm and you want to split the flow in two nozzles you cannot simply divide the diameter by 2 and there you go . If you want to split a 0,7mm nozzle on two nozzles with the same flowrate you have to use 2 nozzles with 0,5mm to get the same flowrate. If you have a 70 cm pizza and you have 2 pizza in a diameter of 35cm it should be clear that you have much less pizza then. So you have choosen the wrong nozzles. .. i like watching your videos. good luck to you
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 4 жыл бұрын
Your not trying to split the flow your splitting the pressure. Flow rate will only reduce if you use a smaller nozzle. So long as you use the correct size nozzle or bigger you will always get the same flow rate on a jet wash as this is governed by the pump. If your on full throttle the pump will output max flow rate so long as you have the recommended size nozzle or larger. When fitting larger nozzles the only thing your affecting is the pressure. Pressure on a jet wash is governed by the nozzle orifice size. If the orrafice is too big it won't produce the max pump pressure, if it's too small it will create too much pressure. On split nozzle equipment such as the whirl away you have to split your nozzle size in half or as near to in order to maintain the correct pressure. If you fit 2 nozzles that are smaller you will overpressurise the pump which can cause stress/failure. If what you was saying is correct about jet wash nozzles then you would end up with pump failure pretty quickly.
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 4 жыл бұрын
I think I understand where your coming from but I'm not sure if you have any jet wash knowledge. Nozzles sizes on a jet wash are not measured in mm they have a specific size value for example 065, 070, 080 etc. These numbers don't relate to a size in mm even though they do have a measurement. If you had an std size 070 nozzle which has an approximate orifice size of 1.60mm you don't half the mm size you half the nozzle size meaning you fit 2x 035 nozzles. A 035 nozzle measures approx 1.10mm. So when we say split the nozzle size in half we are referring to the actual nozzle size not it's physical size in mm.

@@DirtyDriveAway is the surface cleaner much better than the double turbo? Getting into the same with hopefully 4500psi 25lpm as a side business to my decorating business and was thinking is it worth getting the surface cleaner or should I wait a bit and then get the falch purple turbo?
@DirtyDriveAway
@DirtyDriveAway 5 жыл бұрын
@@mrmihaioltean the surface cleaner is a lot cheaper them the falch. Downside to a surface cleaner is they dont handle weeds very well and they can be a bit aggressive on mortar joints as the rotor arm isn't easily adjusted. I very rarely use mine, the only time they are useful is concrete. They don't clear the area as you clean so it can be quite hard seeing where you have been, only after you've rinsed do you realise that you've missed bits. Your major downside to a washer that powerful is that its really too high pressure for driveway cleaning etc and keeping 25lpm machine running with water can be a challenge as even a large tank will empty quite quickly without a serious water supply. You may need a standpipe permit to allow adequate water supply. Anything more than 250bar is really too much for residential cleaning of most surfaces. You may end up causing damage with over 300bar. Phill
@mrmihaioltean
@mrmihaioltean 5 жыл бұрын
@@DirtyDriveAway Phil, thanks for the quick reply pal, the way I see it pressure can always be adjusted but it's there when needed - not taking into domestic but rather commercial for soing canopies, soffits and stuff and a 50 metres hose probably would drop so much pressure. Brick walls and cladding you would just keep the wand slightly away from the wall so not that much pressure hits the surface, then the flow really does the job faster (refills would be the same problem regardless of flow per the same area roughly in my view). And I can always take some revs to get it at 200 bars and 18lpm if my math is right. Thinking of getting a 1000l buffer tank and have the option of 200bars 30 litres or 300bars 25litres pump. That water would do the same area roughly regardless of the pressure and flow difference being the time. Am I seeing it wrong?

Super Bright Cleaning hi there, I would say no. At 200bar and 13lpm I would say your standard nozzle would be something like an 04, meaning that to use a double headed lance would mean splitting the nozzle size in half thereby running 2x 02 nozzles. I am pretty sure the smallest size turbo nozzle is an 03. If you ran 2x 03 turbo you wouldn't get the pressure to run it effectively. By running 2 larger nozzles I would say you may struggle to reach over 100bar. You would be running an equivalent 06 nozzle which is way too big to achieve the 200bar pressure. Phill

Super Bright Cleaning yeah a single will be fine. Just make sure to have the correct size nozzle otherwise you will either not got full pressure or not full flow. Judging by the spec you have me you should have an 04 nozzle jet. Only buy a good quality turbo nozzle from the likes of suttner or PA the cheaper ones will fail pretty fast. Don't forget your best to run an online 1/4" filter too to avoid possible contaminants blocking the jet. Phill

All via website, I dont advertise elsewhere. Leaflet dropping now has a very low return rate, around 1%. Door knocking just isn't professional, it puts people in an awkward situation which often leads to them being under pressure. Elderly and vulnerable are the same, yes you might get work but its quite frowned upon in the professional industry. If somebody wants it done they come to you, its what a reputation is built on. Recommendation and quality of work is what gets you business and repeat jobs. You will need an online presence as anybody wanting work done will go through Google. It can take several years to build up a good reputation and get a good steady return of work.
