I was in one of those 2-3 hour long dealership lines in 1994. I was 10 yrs old. C Weaver Chevrolet in Utica, NY. I don't know why he did it, but I asked Dale to sign a hand drawn picture of his car I had made. He sat me down next to him and we talked for a good 10-15 minutes while he signed other people's things. He asked what I liked about racing. I told him "I watch what you guys do with the cars, on the on boards I watch how you use the wheel." He seemed a bit taken aback that a 10 yr old was paying attention to that stuff (in 1994 anyway, 4 yr olds are driving nowadays lol) I think that's why I started writing about motorsports. I never had even a sniff of an opportunity to drive at any level and still wanted to be part of it somehow so I guess that 10-15 minutes with Dale made me think of how easy he made it to talk with him. I thought to myself, well if I talked to THAT guy at 10, then a short tracker in NY will be a breeze... It hasn't been THAT easy, but I've covered some amazing events and awesome people since. Including last year's Daytona 500.

I am finding it touching that Dale Jr is still searching for a better understanding of his father and this is another example of that. Dale Sr may not have been a perfect father but it wasn't for a lack of desire of wanting to become the kind of father he wanted to be.

Man I’m not sure who I feel the most for jr or Sr what this man just told us about what Dale told him on that plane ride home put a lump in my throat. And had to have done the same to jr sitting there and listening. Sometimes it makes you sad but at the same time what a great story. The one part I miss seeing is how proud the old man would be of his son and how he has become such a great human being.

I am 63 years old, an east Coast Canadian;, been watching Nascar since the first few Broadcast, in the 70's . I've so enjoyed the Racing, Racers, the whole of it;; It's been so much a part of my life;; This year seems so strange, that for decades something so real and close to me, has gone away. I picked up on Jeff Gordon, like so many and watched him go through the motions; I've watched, Richard Petty, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, Dale Senior, Mark Martin, Bobby and Terry Labonte , Michael and Darrell Waltrip, Jimmy Johnson, and of course you, Dale Junior.; I continue today, over four decades later. The List of Course going on and on! I've watched these Guys race, win, retire, move on. I've been so fortunate to see kids become men, and step into racing; And exceed above and beyond; It's been like a Huge family to me. Without any political, drama; Just Guys and Families out There Loving Racing. While passing that love on to their families friends and the rest of us. Always with a Heads up for that Big Guy in the Sky;; And a Love for Family, so much lacking and so needed today; That for sure was another reason I loved the Nascar Family; They were absolutely Real and Genuine God fearing Folk! But as God is my Witness, I've never, felt more close to the Nascar Collective than I do Now; Dale Jr. This Podcast has opened my eyes, mind and heart, to so much; You are still a Young Man, but with a Heart and Soul of a Lion; You are and amazing Man an amazing Father and Husband; and you can only continue doing all of it and this sport and World, the greatest of service; You have Everything in the right place; I wish you and your Family nothing but the Greatest Blessing and Respect; Keep up the Amazing Work; Please do not Worry So about Your Dad's Feelings for You; I also had a Dad who was a Hard man; but fear not, Hard Men can Love Too,; There was So much weighing on your Dad's Shoulders, But that Greatest of Weights was You, Terry, Taylor and Kelly. It's These he carried more and Loved Harder. When Sr got that black car the whole game changed. The intimidator arrived an it will never be the same. And Jr proved himself in the Red Bud car as being one of the best in the world as well. They should all be very proud.

He is absolutely right i lost interest in the sport after Sr's death i loved Jr. And supported him but the sport will never be the same i don't watch anymore at all ! Love jr you should have gotten your dad's organization not the wicked witch can't help but think what could have been !!! 👍

It’s still hard for me even today. I enjoy hearing the stories. But I can’t watch interviews of him and things like that. I can watch old races. But that hole his passing left in so many of us will never be filled and is still raw with the pain of that day. RIP Dale. We still miss you #3forlife

It was pretty cool to listen this entire podcast. The stories of Sr's regrets, and then Jr talking about talking to the baby in Amy's belly, so when she's delivered and being cleaned up, she will hear a voice she recognizes. All any of us can hope for is to do better than the generations that went before us.

This is all a treat. I am a fly on the wall here. My sister died suddenly when I was 16. She was just 13 and now I'm 56. I wonder how my life would have gone? Kelly was like my MCT. I wish Thersae would of let go of the number #8, but I also think now she was just being loyal to Sr. Military school got Jr on the fast track to growing up thats for sure.

One of the best episodes I've seen so far Dale Jr., count me as one who stopped watching when we lost your dad! Oddly enough I just read a comment under another video earlier tonight where a man was talking about how he was in touch with Robert Yates the night we lost your dad and he was asked to meet Robert somewhere at like 3AM that night and they sat talking and he was told by Robert, the sport would never be the same and would go downhill within the next 5 years! So, what David shares here is so on point! Your dad was NASCAR from the time he came into it, until the day he left us all! Only good thing that comes to mind whenever I am reminded of that fateful day is, he left this world doing exactly what he lived and loved doing, racing! I know that had to be such a huge relief for you and Kelly to both hear what David shared here about his plane ride home and yalls dad telling him how much he regretted not being there with yall growing up! Another thing is, know that he was doing it all imho to leave it to you, your brother and sisters, even though that never came to fruition the ways I'm certain he would've wanted it all to end up, as I heard you say in another podcast how all you got left was a pair of his boots! Just imagine not having him for your dad....you'd likely have never been given any of the opportunities you've had by being his son! He did it All for you and your siblings brother! Know that without one doubt! I'm also certain if your dad was still here today, Isla would be getting spoiled rotten by Sr., no doubts about that in my mind! I can see him now in my minds eye, as his way of trying to subdue his regrets for not being there while yall were growing up! I'm very grateful for all you and the crew do here on youtube and your podcasts, I'd much rather listen to the good old days and all the stories shared like these here, than to watch the NASCAR Show on tv these days! As Richard Petty told Graham Bensinger, "The only thing the same today in NASCAR is, they drop a green flag at the start and a checkered at the finish! Nothing else is the same at all compared to what NASCAR, used to be! It's not a race anymore, it's a show!" He goes on after that to try and sugar coat it some, but he said it all right there inside the first minute of that 3:25 clip! Spot on imho too, 100% correct and it all started, the day we lost your dad!

Loved to watch Dale Jr race and the interviews in victory lane and just like Jr my dad sent me to military school and I think it really helps you through life.My dad had a big auto salvage yard and got into alot of mischief.Dad finally had enough and said he was sending me to Camden Military Academy.I spent 3 yrs there and from what Ive read this helped Jr and gave him confidence through the Busch series and Cup.I hope Dale Jr will get to spend lots of time with his two girls and he can look back and say he was a part of them growing up.I really enjoy The Dirty Mo videos,thanks for sharing..

Incredible to hear other side of a story from an individual who spent time with the man/legend. I hope that Dale Jr gets these other side of these stories coming for that solid closer. I have a friend that went to the same military school. I live in Greensboro and a huge dale Jr fan. He is such a nice guy on and off the track. He has made the great sport of nascar even better.

It’s always so interesting to hear about your early years and what influenced you to be who and what you are today. Your dad was as tough as nails yet even when he was fighting his way up, somehow I knew in my heart he was a good man with an appreciation for life and those around him. It still brings tears to my eyes reliving that day in time and the loss we all experienced. There will NEVER be another Dale Earnhardt! I know we all have a peace in our hearts, but a perpetual sadness that will never heal. Love and prayers Junior, I wish you and your family health and happiness........ 💕

I am 76 now, memory is not to good at times. Two things burned in my mind: 1. Where I was at the time I heard JFK had been killed, 2. Where I was at the time Dale died. Was a big Dale fan, NASCAR has not been the same since, only watch a few races now.

I have to admit, I never watched another race after Dale Sr. Died. It just was too heartbreaking. I always paid attention to any highlights or news about Jr. though. Glad I found these podcast. It has reminded me of how much I loved NASCAR.

Great one . He's right , it felt very different . But , for every hundred that said ,"that's about when I stopped watching ......" , There was a thousand true Earnhardt/Nascar fans out here that still believed in the sport that he loved . I lost my mom three weeks after the 2001 Daytona race . I didn't stop eating my potato salad or spaghetti sauce just like she made it . I still follow the sport , and I still love it . Neither are the same , but aren't we just doing the best we can , I think Jr's dad and my mom both were . P.S. Mom watched the races solely to see how "her man was gonna do it this week" lol She was a fan BECAUSE of The Intimidator .

I hope this interview gave Jr. and his sister a little more peace about their father. I'm sure they've long since settled things in their own way within themselves, but having someone like Mr. Allen relate the story of Sr.'s regrets about his kids must mean something special to them both - must have been good to hear.

This is a great clip, handled so well by all of you. Dale Senior was THE GUY, no question, both then and now. Others have meant much to the sport (The King, for example), but no one before or since has dominated the sport, and he's missed.

Dale Sr was Stone Cold Steve Austin of Nascar or Austin was the Dale Sr of WWE and Nascar hasn't been able to find anyone to play that role.

You can't give what you never had, but you can improve with the generation you were intrusted with, as we have seen Sr did a great job with Jr. Look at him with his children and a great husband and father. It taught him responsibility and compassion for the details in every day living.

Remember the thought you (jr) had last week about Sr's thoughts when you would pass him on the track. Well, David just verified it. 100% chance those thoughts did enter his mind. 😊

its strange people who were really big into nascar before 2001 daytona 500 lost interest and thats when it grabbed my interest ... i watched many years earlier than that and id root for Earnhardt and Gordon from time to time but i was too young to understand ... ive gone back and watched a lot of the races available on youtube and what a great things its been for me ... for me i have a hard time understanding how you can walk away from the sport ... lately ive been a Larson fan for the last few years and now thats gone to the gutter. I dont know why ive been so obsessed over nascar for so long when others lose interest and others hate the sport. All in all the characters will come and go but they will always be racing. Theres been some damn good characters. I love the story of nascar but its really been a frustrating one... and it was never lower than in the evening after the 2001 daytona 500. Its still so unfair, but that is life unfortunately...

These videos are a good listen. They are held back by the guy with bright bright teeth that plays this kind of "speed it along" role. Im sure most would rather a longer less structured one on one with Jr and whatever guest is on. Thats why we tune in. The Rogan model would work really well. Just let Jr and the guest figure it out for awhile. Like listening in to a conversation between two guys at a hauler at a track.
