Roller Skating defined my youth...as a youngster in the 6th grade everyone that was cool was at the local rink. I was afraid of what others would say about me because I didn't know how to skate. Took the plunge, over the weeks and months until I mastered the art. 1 year later at the local rink I got a job there and before I knew it I was teaching lessons and on the local Roller Hockey Team. That was in the early 1970's and I've been skating ever since. 65 in 2022 and still two-stepping. Never to young or to old. Great Video.

The ones about dropping the hips low and shifting your weight to move were big tips that none of other skating tutorials made clear. In the two hours I skated, I only fell once! I went skating with friends the other day and I’m a VERY terrible skater. They were trying to show me how to move correctly but I just couldn’t get it. But watching your tutorial has made me want to practice at home to. I plan on buying skates this summer so I can practice because I hate being the only one out of my friends who can’t skate and it’s embarrassing 😭

This is the best quick-start video on KZfaq. I watched this a few times, then hit the roller rink for the first time and had a great time. Debbie's a great teacher - explains things in a way that you remember them, is funny, and the camera work is good. My friends at the rink asked me how I learned so fast and I just told them "High beams on, snack zone in, fun zone out" (I'm sure I'm misquoting Debbie a bit, but I got the gist!)

I used to go to roller rinks with friends when I was a kid and I was pretty good back then, my gramma bought me a new pair of rollerskates last week and I've even practicing everyday! Your videos have been so helpful and so encouraging!! 🤩🥰 thank you so much for making the task of learning seem less daunting and for being an awesome, fun, friendly face to learn with! 🥳 Also, when you said "keep your feet in a 'V' formation" I thought "perfect! Over the summer I got a pair of skates and was using the stoppers to push myself 😭 Also fell so many times I was sore for an entire week BUT I'll test this out and try to stick to it and hopefully I'll do better lol Update: Skated for about an hour and it went really good actually

I'm in my 40s and got on skates for the second time in about 30 years last night and I stared at my feet, kicked my foot, flailed around but thankfully did not fall. I have a plate in my ankle and can't do the perfect skating moves but I made my neice really happy and your video was super helpful. I will keep practicing!

Yes. It is true. If you ask me for my sources well, there is no one source to verify anything these days. Sources are for simple facts. Intellectual knowledge comes from reading different theories, using deductive logic, seeing different experiments used in social settings and coming to your own conclusions however, the testers never reveal how they draw upon their own conclusions. Know this, our military has technology 10 years ahead of civilians. We are not equal to our military in knowledge amd resources. If you have your own realistic conclusion I would love to hear it. Until then, try to outsmart my theory and see if you have a different result.

I started practicing for the first time ever just three days ago and fell terrified and made no progress. I then watched this video and LOVED IT! It spoke to me in ways other videos or people couldn't, I finally understood what my body needed to be doing! I only practiced once after this video and it was amazing!! I love this woman! She just seems to be so fun and “real” and down-to-earth and like she’s just a direct straight-talking type of person-like she’ll trash talk to you, but you’d laugh and enjoy it. This was one of the better beginner skater videos I’ve seen! This lesson video was enjoyable!

I tried it 2 weeks ago after a 38 year break. Was difficult, but when I heard the music, I was all GO. Fell down twice. My wrists were sore for about 10 days from the fall. Then I found this video. Thanks! Will try it again.

I’ve never heard someone explain the basic movement as shifting body weight. I just started skating and have had a hard time establishing that movement, but this explains a lot of what I was missing. I’m going to the rink tomorrow and can’t wait to try!

Chin up, shoulders straight, stomach core tight, arms out, palms down, drop your hips and bend your knees. Transfer body weight from left to right side to side, feet in a V-position. Practice, practice consistently. Do not look down! (I tend to do that when skating backwards). I enjoyed the video and learn a lot from repetition drills and making it fun. I took one of Deb’s beginner classes for adults at Pigeon’s. She was able to fabulously teach all the basics in one class. And when she was showing us how to stop, she literally stopped precisely three inches from my face. It was awesome!

Went on a stress relief skate date with my husband last night. I haven’t skated in about 20 years. I now am extremely embarrassed because I did everything, and I mean everything, you said not to do. 😂 It’s no wonder I’m so sore today. @@annsanders143 I did my own research and found out Impala has really good hybrid skates! The wheels are versatile for both indoor and outdoor skating, and those are the ones I bought! Mine came in the mail yesterday and they are so comfortable and high quality I definitely recommend them! PLUS they are having a sale right now so their 100 dollar skates are like half off, and if you have afterpay and stuff you can even do payment plans :>> I hope this is helpful!

Because I was self-taught all those years ago, I never learned the technical moves or wheels 101. Nadia ... that is very common. Please put the skates on and just focus on rising up and then bending your knees while looking ahead and tightening up your core. Just focus on balance and not rolling at all. Then ... get on the ground and practice getting up. Over and over till it becomes second nature.

This, whenever I ice skate, I use to force myself to drop at the beginning, so I wasn’t afraid to drop, once I got rid of that fear, I never dropped.

Fist of all, you're adorbs! Thanks so much for this video! My parents owned a rink when I was a kid. In my 40's now, I just got a pair of skates and I'm getting back to it today! I'm taking my nephews to the rink and I had no idea how I would explain the basics to them. So helpful as a refresher for myself and guidance for them

Keep it up. YOu must get your brain and body on the same wave length. Your mind will fight you in order to "save" your body. Once they come together ... magic :)

Thank you so much for this video! I had a one-day roller skating outing with a bunch of friends, and I had never roller skated before. I actually was doing it! And I was going decently fast! I had so much fun! This video was so so helpful! And I only fell once because I bent my knees a lot, I caught myself, like you said I would :)

Hi Deborah! You're amazing! I LOVE your videos. Just last week I bought skates and haven't done that since childhood. Now I'm 6 ft 2 and felt a little scared and unstable. Watching your videos helps me practice! Someone invited me to a roller disco, that's in 2 weeks, so I'm practicing not to look stupid 😄 Just being able to go around stable and not falling over, being able to stop and bubble a little bit is a good start! Also watched the video of adjusting the skates, so that will be my next step today, since these are straight from the factory/shop. I'll be watching more and practice more! Love the humor in your videos. If I'm ever in The States (live in The Netherlands) I'll make sure to plan a stop at your Skating Center!

I got my 7 yr old granddaughter her first pair of skates for her birthday. Her house has a big open living room area adjacent to the kitchen that her parents keep clear of furniture so there is more room for the kids to play. It's all hardwoods! Her own private little skating rink! She watched this video and was skating by afternoon! (Yes! Really!) She loves skating to the song "Brand New Key!" I'm so proud of her and what's even better is how proud she is of herself!!!
