Emily is a wheelchair user who relies on technology to communicate. It takes her minutes to type a sentence because of her disability. People often assume she is unable to communicate and walk away while she is typing on her device. This has led her to feel lonely and isolated. Emily wants others to know that her mind is full of complex thoughts, jokes, and ideas. She just hopes others are patient enough to listen.

Emily i am also disabled and struggle alot with loneliness. Watching people do all the "normal adult things" is really hard. I have also dealt with depression because of not being able to achieve my dreams. People tend to not understand what it's like to be me. I'm sure that it's even more of a problem for you. As you said, people underestimate you, because of your difficulty with speech. I also make bracelets!

@@mikeguidry2577 I'm sorry you feel alone and I hope you find whatever way loneliness means for you to find since loneliness can't be "cured" from something external. So many of the popular people are just as lonely but distracts from it with the people surrounding them. Loneliness really has nothing to do with what's happening outside of you, it's inside of you. I've found that helping people, either secretly or direct, feels like balm on a lonely heart. To ease someone elses pain in some way. Take care because you are very valuable 💙

I can see the feelings of loneliness on her face. I have a lot of mental health conditions I receive government assistance for. I recognize that expression because of my own reflection in the mirror, and it hurts to see on another person. Compassion and patience go a long way, no matter who you're interacting with. I wish she was my sister. I don’t have a disability but I am unable to connect with people, I have no children, I understand the feeling of being passed by. While your friends and family move on and you feel left behind. You don’t need to be disabled to experience this. I find comfort in animals, especially dogs. They love unconditionally, they don’t need to speak to communicate and are more loving and less judgmental than any human being I have ever met. What a beautiful person with a loving soul. Just watching Emily communicate, you can tell she is so intelligent. I also noticed once you realized that she was able to cognitively understand what you were saying that you just spoke to her as if she had no issues understanding. I've met quite a few people over the years who are like Emily, and who have had to deal with others treating them as if they aren't able to understand what is being said. Her stating that she feels like she could explode is heartbreaking. I hope soon there will be a way for people like Emily to communicate freely and quickly.

Watching this video makes me reflect deeply on the numerous privileges and abilities so many of us take for granted every day. The simplicity of being able to communicate our thoughts, feelings, and desires without a second thought is a gift that we often overlook. It's both humbling and enlightening to hear Emily share her experiences and struggles with such strength, eloquence, and resilience. It serves as a sobering reminder to cherish our 'normality,' a term that is so relative and subjective, yet universally craved. It’s essential for us to cultivate gratitude and awareness for the seemingly mundane aspects of our existence, for what might be ordinary to one, is extraordinary to another. Emily’s incredible spirit and intelligence shine through her words, proving that the essence of a person is not in their physical capabilities but in their thoughts, emotions, and soul. To experience normality is to embrace a luxury that we don’t realize we possess. Let’s all extend our patience, and open our hearts to understand and connect with those who experience the world differently.

I feel non-disabled people are on the same boat in regards to being childless at 30+, 30 is the new 20 for many, and they live with their parents too. Though they do focus on careers, but many haven't even worked that out yet either.
