It‘a true that these first two movies are more catered to children, so it makes sense that you wouldn’t be that impressed. However, the characters grow with the story. It starts at the 3rd movie and by the 4th movie, things get really dark. The rest of the movies are full on adult movies. The story is worth staying around for. I promise by the end of the series you‘ll be certified HP fans, judging by how you guys are enjoying Game of Thrones!

some facts about this movie: tom felton who played draco malfoy forgot his line at 34:42 so he ad-libbed "i didn't know you could read." director chris columbus loved the line and kept it in the film. actor jason isaac who played lucius malfoy wore a wig. he wanted to look notably different from his son. he also had to keep his head tipped backwards to keep the long wig from falling in his face. so this worked out well for the character, as he was always looking down his nose at the other characters. he also wasn't supposed to kick dobby, he improvised it when he swung his leg out, stepped down and swung his stick. they decided to use it. & i don't think lucius intended to kill harry at all, he intended to kill dobby. lucius is intelligent enough to understand how killing harry would end poorly for him. jason (lucius) has said that the scene called for lucius to begin casting a curse and that avada kedavra was the first curse he thought of in the moment. when lucius malfoy said "let us hope that mr. potter will always be around to save the day" daniel radcliffe (harry) ad-libbed his response, "don't worry, i will be." rupert grint who plays ron weasley is actually terrified of spiders and has not been able to watch that scene till this day. the movies get darker after this, so be prepared. in this one, they wanted the movie to look darker, so he told the cinematographer to use more subdued lighting. they also desaturated the film in editing.this process continued throughout the entire series. each film becomes darker in turn, and has less and less colour. it shows how the danger progresses, leading up to the finale, and also how the characters and getting older. when goyle (draco's friend) was clapping at the end when everyone cheering for hagrid, tom (draco) stopped him because they weren't supposed to. richard harris (dumbledore) was hospitalised after falling very ill. they were going to start filming the third movie in the series very soon, he asked them not to re-cast dumbledore in harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban yet; hoping that he would pull through and be able to play the role. sadly, he passed away shortly afterward, and michael gambon was given the role of the headmaster in the third film. michael gambon recently passed away in 2023. RIP to them both 💔

i think fillers were necessary when you watch everything all movies then you wish there was just more of harry potter to explore the world of magic and that fillers gives us ideas what's out there obviously then theres fantastic beast saga but still

Its fare, it also sets up the darker themes that will happen in movie 3 & beyond, 1 & 2 are setups 3 on it gets better

My two favorites are Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of fire.

There's a noticeable change in tone starting with the 3rd movie. Hang in there. You won't be disappointed

The books are way better of course but this is a decent adaptation. Unfortunately the movies leave out most of the classes where they actually learn spells in the movies. Don't get me wrong..I love the movies and watch them frequently. I just love the books more. Lucius Malfoy doesn't work at the Ministry with Mr. Weasley. Lucius is super rich and he's always at the Ministry buying favors, etc with his money and influence. Harry is 12 by the way. Just add 10 to whichever movie you're watching to figure out his age.

I don’t understand why people are trying to convince guys to continue watching Harry Potter. If someone doesn’t like it from the very beginning, then they don’t have to watch it. And one more thing, people here argue that they need to continue watching because the first two films are for children, and then they become more adult. There is so much philosophy and depth in all the books and films about Harry Potter; it is unlikely that a child will ever be able to understand it. Therefore, persuading people to watch more films because they are more mature, in my opinion, is strange. This franchise is not at all for children; there is a lot of tragedy, grief, and death in it. Even I, as an adult, sometimes cannot watch these films without crying.

About 80% rank this last, and it at least feel the longest. It's all about taste, though. Personally I never liked Avatar, nor Avatar, the way of water (?) . Almost everyone loved them. These two were the children's movies. They will be teens next movie, and there's a new Director, Alfonso Cuarón. The movies content follow their age a bit. If you read the books, you might notice even the language grows along with the kids.

I mean these first couple of movies are really made for kids, because the books were made for kids.
