I'm from Berkshire and genuinely had no idea that we have such extreme conditions anywhere in the UK. I've very much set on building a campervan and will now start working on it with the view of taking it to Cairngorms.

Living in Sweden we always choose 4 wheel drive and proper winter tires with studs. Got to be prepaired north of the wall ;).

Two days after Christmas Eve we are heading up to Norway och the northern parts of Sweden and we really longing for the real winter with a lot of snow. I really love the winter and especially the winter camping.

Ahh, yes. The stunning snow roads scenic route of Scotland. I’ve holidayed here many times for years now after falling in love with the area back in 2017. I know the area very well. I’ve been caught out myself in the snow up there. I always base myself around Tomintoul, Grantown on Spey, Nethy Bridge and of course Aviemore. I’ll be back up there end of January for the sled dog rally and hopefully we’ll have some snow. Ballater and Braemar are beautiful places to visit too. The drive over the mountains is BREATHTAKING but impassable during snowy weather- hence the road closures. Did you get to see all the art structures? My favourite is The Watchers, which is on the Lecht road. There’s a big enough lay-by for you to pull in and enjoy

Years ago we had a cold snap and a White Christmas in Northern Ireland. We drove from Belfast to the North Coast on boxing day to visit relatives. I couldn’t enough heat into the engine of my wife’s 205 diesel. (I had a set of snow chains that would fit her wheels just in case) We just couldn’t heat the inside of the car, so I pulled into a petrol station to get windscreen wiper fluid. )I sat there for 15 minutes with the engine running at 2000 revs to heat up the engine. I manage to move the needle to the normal position. But when I drove out of the garage the temperature gauge plunged. I knew the problem, was physically stopping -20 artic air blasting onto the radiator. I pulled over again. I found a plastic bin bag in the boot, I opened the engine bay and set the longest edge across the lip of boot, I then closed the boot to hold it in place so that most of the plastic bag was covering the radiator grill on the outside of the car. When I drove the car the wind will hold it in place. The temperature shot straight up into the red once I started to drive. I then had to stop to punch holes in the bag to allow enough cold air to pass through the plastic bag into the engine bay. I only had to stop one more. But it worked a treat. I don’t know if you experienced the same problem driving in -16? When you drive at 50 mph the air would be a lot colder than that.

Really enjoyed that! Looks like you are living the dream! I was in the Cairngorms at the same time. I even stopped in the same car park (where the bottle banks were) and the taps had icecles hanging off them! Tried to get to the Lecht ski centre for serveral days, but the road was closed :( Wonderful part of the world and stunning in the snow.

The snow was quite a bit worse 2 years ago and that road we see at 3' actually got hit by an avalanche.

Just found your vlogs some stunning scenery. It’s a pity Glenmore is now closed it’s our favourite site with lots of walking and cycling routes right on its doorstep and it’s nice to see an alternative view of Loch Morlich. We are currently sitting at high range in aviemore with a good smattering of snow.

I was up there at the same time in my self converted VW 4Motion Crafter doing some photography, it was Baltic but beautiful. Have you considered an infrared heater. Low wattage for emergency use of the leisure battery, absolutely brilliant.

You need tae get yerself some winter tyres for the camper, we've been using them over here in Germanyland for a few winters and they make a massive difference. Keep up the good work you two!!!

Yet another great vlog, thanks…. 🤞 the new van arrives on time - I ordered mine (FIAT) back in Sep-21 and it finally arrived in UK port at the end of Nov-22, still there awaiting onward transport for conversion 🙄 Oh and I’ve opted for Truma Combi DIESEL this time (not gas) with compressor fridge, so gas for cooking only. Came across your channel and this video this morning. I was in my MH a few weeks ago at -12, but I stayed overnight at a C&MH park, didn’t take on board any water, had to use ice grips to get to the facilities but we were cosy inside. Would be interested to know if you keep the heating on in the van when driving at those temperatures, to keep all the compartments and tanks warm?

Cool vid! How long does it take for the temperature drop 1C when the heater turns off? Mine takes 30min and the propex kicks on again. Temp diff is 18C, outside 2C and inside 20C. I think thats pretty bad. Maybe drafts...
