This is part of a series of videos based on my recent playthrough of Disco Elysium. Disco Elysium is a CRPG released in 2019 by Estonian developer ZA/UM. You play as a burnt-out, alcoholic detective who's drunken himself into a state of amnesia. Now it's up to you to salvage your job, your memories, and your dignity (or what's left of it) in order to solve a murder case.
After turning in for the night, the detective has a frightening dream that combines both the horrific crime scene that he's just investigated along with his own troubled psyche.

I can't believe the way this game has latched onto my soul, I keep coming back to it. I've never heard the thoughts of suicide I've struggled with all my adult life put more plainly than this monologue. Listening to it again, I think of the relationships that ended, the people I've chased away because of my self indulgent self-pity. Sometimes I wonder if I'm refusing to get better on purpose. This game has been a tremendous comfort in some pretty dark times. I hear this monologue and play this game and remember I'm not alone in feeling this way. Thank you for the upload, and if anyone else came here seeking comfort, know that you aren't alone.

You held a young woman by the arm and kept her in your apartment for 20 minutes against her will. That's right, these are not flights of fancy. These are *real deeds*, Harry, emerging from the darkness of your past. You tried shooting a fleeing suspect in the foot but hit him in the pelvis, crippling him for life. And above all, you let life defeat you. All the gifts your parents gave you, all the love and patience of your friends, you drowned in a neurotoxin. It does hit hard, because everybody can find something to blame himself for, me too obvioualy. But, It Is just a shade of you, listen also to the other ones, the encouraging ones 😉

For me THIS was the moment I was completely hooked on disco elysium. The detective stuff and dialogue was already really good, but there's something about this whole dream sequence that just really touched me. Amazing game

this game really helped me through a rough time, it's hard to say, but this scene really brought a lot of myself to light that I was not willing to face
