Disco Elysium is one of the best roleplaying games you could hope to experience, provided you're looking for something savagely dark, political, and introspective.
It's a game all about being a cop - a superstar cop, a bigoted cop, a cop of the apocalypse, a communist cop - whatever cop you decide to be based on the wealth of options that open up to you.
Bearing a brutal wit and a deep, contemplative story about depression, addiction, societal struggles, and everything in between, Disco Elysium is one of the most fascinating games you can play this year.

They are essentially your own party aside from Kim(or one character if things go a certain way) and if you raise that stat too much, they start talking more and more, actually being able to distract you or make you look insane. They also don't...always give good advice but it isn't always obvious, for example, at one point you meet a character that your stats like so damn much they act like there is no way this character is a suspect or has anything to hide, when said character has quite a bit of interesting stuff, though at least in that certain case, one of your stats will go ahead and warn you there may be a clear bias going on and tries to warn you, but this doesn't always happen, sometimes they really just trick you and don't warn you. So yeah, don't always listen to your stats, and try to avoid always putting stat points unless you want your character to look like an insane weirdo, had unspent skill points at the end of the playthrough precisely because of this, unlike many RPG's, putting too much points CAN hurt you in the end, unless you don't mind your character being so weird others find you too annoying or insane to work/talk to.

This truly is a "once in a blue moon" kind of game. There should exist a variety of games, I'm ok with this game not being for everyone, because that just means it can focus much more on its strengths and I appreciate that immensely. No game even can be for everyone, but that just makes for more creative and/or fun experiences.

@@TheIncognitusMe High Physique doesn't preclude being nice to or pleasing Kim. Your PHY skills *can* be used to hurt other people, but mostly they just make you more empathetic to other people's bodies. You'll notice that someone is a lot more buff than they should be (Physical Instrument), or that you just startled them into wanting to run away (Half-Light). Shivers is its own kind of thing, though. I like to describe it as the "Sam Vimes" ability: you are in tune with the city itself and perceive it as a living thing.

@kve5520
@kve5520 4 жыл бұрын
@Toxic Potato "social justice politics" is an absolutely idiotic thing. This is the excuse Gamers use to justify them being mad at the fact that theres a minority in a video game, saying shit like "its forced!". I mean, what even is that supposed to mean? Do they have to find some excuse, some reason to why the character isn't white or straight? What about forced "whiteness" then. Diversity in video games is not politics. Games have always ACTUALLY been political, but of course Gamers don't get games like bioshock, hotline miami, witcher all with heavy and actual political themes

Jim, you may be happy to know that ZA/UM, the developer, has announced that they have a lot of content planned for this IP. It's based on a pen and paper role-playing setting that they developed over more than a decade (12 years, I think). The lead dev also has a novel in this universe that he plans to have translated to English. Given the relative lack of typos and grammatical errors, I'd love to see the same people translate that book.

I absolutely loved my time with Disco Elysium, its probably my favorite game I played this year. The way it draws you into this absolutely hopeless world, the painful scenarios it puts you into, where it can feel like there is no correct way to go about something, or that there is something more that you are missing but you have no clue what, and the amazing dialogue and characters which all seem unique and fully thought through in their own respects, truly make Disco Elysium a great game. That being said, there are a few story related issues which I came across (that I won't go further into, obvs) throughout my play through, and in a game which is all about the story, these issues held back what could have been one of the greatest games of all time. Instead, Disco Elysium is merely one of the best games this year.

Been loving this game, it freedom its insane to me and makes me want to restart to see what can happen different. You really get a sense of play the role you want, no telling you which way is the right one. My favorite choice so far was talking about politics and having to choose who I would make into pig feed..kind of felt it was taking the piss a bit when two of the options were “I wouldn’t chop anyone into pigfeed, i am super smart” and “did I really just spend two minutes thinking who to make into feed”
