Your video was very informative. Those bargains were great. Your utilities-refuse, electric and phones are much cheaper than ours in the US. We are fortunate that our weather has evened out, not too warm or too cold. That means lower natural gas and electricity. Since we have our own well we do not pay for water. Keep up the good work.

We’ve been buying old fashioned lard for shallow frying. It”s 50% monounsaturated fat (the one in olive oil) and not unhealthy if used in small amounts. I also save bits of rendered fat for later use. We still have olive oil but mostly just in salad dressings.

Some great offers there Jane, here in the Uk we have company shop which sounds like the shop you went to. They buy excess stock or short date stock and stock were the company has changed its labels. They are much cheaper than the normal supermarket but it is pot luck what you can get. I always try to buy a months supply of whatever I am buying. I go about once a month and stock up on anything I can find that I normally use. This means I only need to shop for the things they didn’t have. I find this works well to help keep my grocery bill down.

Uncle Ben's BBQ Sauce and sweet and sour sauce?! That's not something I've ever seen here in the US. Very interesting. You guys are much better at planning than we are. Although, we're doing better this year than previous years. Your electric bill is NOT high. Ours jumped from an average of about $100 a month to almost $200 earlier this year. :( Our internet only bill is about $85 a month. Our phone bills are almost $100 a month. It's a wonder that on our income we make it work. But you guys help us navigate our financial life. Thanks!

i really enjoy seeing these grocery haul for the reason -how differrent some of the groceries look in another country-packaging-names- sizes and prices. i was suprised by that package of coconut oil-i buy it here in USA and thats how they sell it only in glass jars.

Great video, I think you did really well on the food haul. Oil is approx £1.65 - £2 a litre in the UK but supplies are hit and miss.

In the UK the electricity and gas companies have hiked up the standing charge you HAVE to pay - even if you don't use any gas or electricity! So annoying - I wanted the gas removed - estimated cost of £2000. Caught either way 😒

I always keep my almond flour in the freezer. Keeps for ever.

We go to a clearance shop when we go to Cleethorpes on our breaks, this time they had Co-op salad cream ood 3 x 470g £1, pea n mint soup 4 x 400g £1, Co-op spaghetti 4 x 509g, I got 2 loads of each. They had curry powder and everyday season 100g tubs 29p. I was luck in February I thought I’d used all my oil so got 3x 1 lire bottles of sun flower £1 bottle Asda own brand. I’m not stockpiling but keep a healthy supply available. Great to keep your budget in check …….. Love Wendy ♥️💋

We have a "salvage" shop like yours with some items past BBD. I get my coffee there. I pay rock bottom prices and have never been disappointed.

I do the same, the digital flyers for the different grocery stores come out on Sundays, I make my mealplan and shopping list accordingly. And I stock up when there is pasta on sale or 3 for 2 deals and so on. 😊

We do similar with our budget. Before I married D - I put amounts of money aside in cash. D sorts out our monthly budget on the computer into separate headings - much safer than cash in the house.

Deals are hard to find, most is things you don't need but some would want. Any oil and fat is limited💰. I have a stock of most basics we really use build up in the last 5 months . I have been declared "insane" by many people, that's fine by me🤣. fact of the matter is I bought it all for 25%less or even better than you could buy now. 🤭. It took out some of my descrationary spending. I know it runs out sometime but I am creative and stretch, partly thanx to you! And a bit of my nan and her cookbook even though I think she never really known as she has passend well over 20 years, but she liked it that I payed attention to her cooking and stories. Thanx for spreading the frugal message and keep on going! 💪We can do this!

That Barilla gluten free pasta is absolutely the best boxed gluten free pasta available in my opinion. The taste and texture are wonderful. The only downside is that it doesn’t store well once it is cooked, it dries out very quickly. It’s best used freshly cooked. I’m glad you were able to get some sunflower oil and the coconut oil. The price of oils has skyrocketed in the last few months. Thanks for always sharing your frugal recipes and habits as well as money saving ideas with us.

I use rice bran oil and haven't noticed a price increase, yet. I also have a 'dripping' pot to use for the best roast potatoes. Your house insurance is so reasonable compared to Australia. We have had floods, fires and cyclones in the past 3 years so cost of policies have increased exponentially.

Really good haul there, some times gf spaghetti is hard to get its true. Herons food stores has had lots of lentil pasta in only 39p a box, great for my brother but unfortunately I can't eat lentils. Cutting out meat, dairy, eggs and oil will really save a lot on groceries. Haven't bought those in years and I don't feel the proce hikes as much. Legumes, frozen veggies and potatoes are still well available and can be cheap if you buy the seasonal veggies or frozen. Car fuel however is a wholly different story. I am rationing, doing as much by bike as I can, but it's getting pretty ridiculous, even with the decrease in fuel tax we've had.

Jane and Mike, thank you for showing your actual budget. It is wonderful how you're able to save almost half of your income every month. Obviously some of those are set aside for future expenses which many people are not good at doing but you show a good example of how to do your sinking funds. I'm glad you were able to find some oil in the supermarket and on offer as you like to say. And it's also great that you found some of your special flour that you need for baking and cooking. And of course poor Mike getting his cookies was such a nice thing to see! I have a real sweet tooth so I can appreciate the struggle! 🍪🍪 I'm finding that our sales here in the US are becoming fewer and further between and are definitely not what they used to be Sales also don't seem to be on as many staple items which may be another reason why I don't think the sales are as good as they used to be.I have heard F lol frugal bloggers mention the discount grocers that carry items with short dates or past best by dates but I have not found one in my area Being disabled, if I had one I doubt I would be able to get to it as I don't drive and I like to use my requested trips by my friends and neighbors for trips to Aldi or the dollar store. I primarily rely on Walmart for my regular grocery delivery and I also have a membership to Sam's Club which is Walmart's Warehouse Club store. I belong there and my next door neighbor belongs to Costco which is another large US membership warehouse club. She is kind enough to shop at both of them for each of us about monthly and we are able to take advantage of sales as well as buying in larger quantities. Like you, I don't stockpile but I do try to stock up a bit when I do find a good price on something especially on non-perishables and household goods like laundry supplies and pet items. Since it is just me in my home along with my two dogs, I don't have to buy a lot of groceries but I do have a separate freezer that is small that I do use for overflow of items when I can get a good price on them. Or recently when items have been out of stock if I can find something in stock I will buy a couple of extra that I can put in the freezer but I don't hoard items like some people have been doing. You may want to check out Le Club Leader Price fr, it is the "anti-gaspillage / déstockage" version of Leader Price / Casino. I have recently discovered via Maman Econome YT channel who was doing a "parrainage", just visited the website out of curiosity, then I found out that they ship in my country too. You can find both international and store brands.

Your cheese is so cheap! We pay a ridiculous amount for it here in New Zealand and it has become a bit of a luxury item at the moment so it only goes into the trolley if it is on special. I love seeing all the different things you get at the supermarket there

Hello Jane & Mike. Thank you for sharing, I found it all very informative. Are you willing to share the mechanics of budgeting please? For example 2220 euros comes in, then what do you do? I heard to say that you have 4 accounts. Do you separate into a separate account your LTS? Separate out sinking funds into another account? Etc etc. this is something that I am expecting to struggle with. Seeing a nice lump of cash in the bank and struggling to keep track of what I should and should not be spending. This would be a helpful segment on Wednesday perhaps.

When I was in Morlaix I had success using the “ too good to go” app and got a bag of vegetables and a large bag of bread products. Might be worth looking at to see if any local stores have been added. I used this app in London as well and fed us so economically with sandwiches and such the whole week.

Just wondered if your pensions are affected by the exchange rate ? I have a friend in Spain whose income is affected so it goes up and down depending on the exchange rate , even harder to budget .

Is it always at 0 or do you break up those amounts to seperate savings accounts? I hope I am explaining properly 😆 I currently have seperate savers that I transfer my sinking funds too. I don’t understand why you are saving out of income rather than reducing the amount you take each month - invested funds gets greater interest if the interest rates are stepped.
