Not much is different to the construction industry. I have never been on a site that did not have a serious injury or death with in a year. Why do you think British construction has more work place deaths then any other. I have literally had a manager tell ne how great their site is as they had no major injury for 92 days. 92 days before a man got crushed to death in a trash compactor. British standards are considered better then most of the world. Makes you wonder what every where else is like. I gave up the construction industry for a reason, though I will not describe my 1st hand experience. Mind it is gruesome & horrible!

I have seen eastern Europeans crippled on a construction site & later informing authorities for which they did not care. I my self remember working in slurry snowing conditions with a hole in my boot for 8 hours & I was not allowed to pop out for a new pair even though their site gave me the hole. I informed the HSE & was eventually forced to quit as they made my working conditions worse to the point it began to affect my health. Their is nothing more depressing then seeing a 60 year old man forced to shit him self because he didn't want to get fired for taking an extra toilet break on a rail construction. The old lad still got fired & humiliated. I quit that firm & informed the authorities on all the dodgy dealing. The company is now bankrupt & no more. I have n0 idea what happened to the old lad. You don't know what construction work is like till you have done it 1st hand & sitting a portable office site container don't count. You can't pay me to do construction work ever again. I'd rather kill.

Also there is huge criminal element to the construction industry. The amount of drug deals & every day dodgyness that goes on between workers, never mind the management is shocking. After domestic & public venues homicides. construction sites are the highest.. The amount of violence on construction sites is ridiculous & most of it doesn't get reported.

This skit is greate because I just built a custom genestealer cult. Their rank in the cult is signified by how much PPE equipment they wear. Their uprising started after a workers strike demanding the planetary governor install safety rails on all high walkways. The bones of workers who fell off the walkway into the acid pits adorn the banners the cult carries into battle. I call it "the cult of the four armed formen".

@@DiscourseMinis That's what happened to the Tau. They were originally introduced as the "good" faction until some players complained that they weren't "grimdark enough". I disagree. Having the Tau be the one good faction actually accentuates the grimdarkness of the setting. There is so much storytelling potential in watching a young idealistic civilization with noble intentions contend with the horrible realities of the 41st millennium.

The chaos corruption is often gradual. Don't expect a worshipper of Tzeentsch to show up with a sign saying "one new god for one soul, free tentacles included". On Vraks, for example, it started out with simple stuff like "oh, you're scared of battle? Try painting this red skull glyph on your gear, and you'll be stronger". It isn't obviously heretical, seeing as the Imperium has a thing for skulls, but congratulations, you have now dedicated yourself and your fight to Khorne. Khorne thinks it's nice with some bloodshed, so you get your buff. You see it works, and ask the guy who tipped you for more tricks, and slowly but surely you will go deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of damnation

One of my favourite things in the Adepts of Mars trilogy is exactly this: a worker's uprising on an Ark Mechanicus, where the workers down tools until the Mechanicus agree not to send them into the plasma vents to clean them without being really sure that they're out before they turn them back on. All it takes is John Grammaticus, a man from the past who actually has an idea of what a different life could look like. The workers don't mind working, they just want non-radioactive shoes!

This is true. The only way to avoid the above scenario is if the planet is lucky enough to be administered under or brought into complacency by the Imperial Fists, Ultramarines, Salamanders, or the Tau. One thing though: If the rebellion got that big, then the enforcers and local astra militarum would begin to fracture and change sides very quickly because the people they are trying to beat happen to be their neighbors, friends, and family. They'd have to call in stuff from other hives. If this became world spanning, Lord Hellmar would have to call for help from off-world sources, which he would be loath to do. Likely the world would be lost to Hellmar before the reinforcements ever arrive. Funny thing is, the reinforcements may arrive only to find that tribute begins to return on schedule because conditions are better and productivity increased.

I think you give the propaganda ministries of said chapters far too much benefit of the doubt. They are still autocratic systems where citizens have no rights and there is no solid civil liberties or democratic influence. Such societies _always_ have staggering corruption and wealth inequalities, which produces squalor. And the Tau... the Tau are a satire of Americans invading to spread freedom to the benighted backwards foreigners... They're very good at propaganda too.

You're right that better conditions can lead to better performance. But you're wrong in assuming that the bureaucracy of a hive is intelligently and dispassionately managing its resources with maximal efficiency. We see this thousands of time through history, through mechanisms that are ramped far up in 40k - without wise leadership capable of enacting systemic change (lolno), or the ability of the population to organize and push for change (LOLNO), beatings will continue until morale improves. Poor production gets punished, not "rewarded" with better conditions.

Agreed that the slavery of 40K, all bad, all the time, for almost everyone, with no respite, is not sustainable. Even Orwell's 1984 implies in its appendix that the regime ended. The Handmaid Tale's does similarly (sorry if this is a spoiler). A reality so grim the life of every citizen is constant agony and pain is not sustainable. The Imperium of 40K is a caricature, as opposed to scifi with more depth (even then, some of the fiction sometimes downplays this, because it's not even fun to read. Nobody wants to read escapist fiction set in Space Auschwitz because it's too depressing).
@rangda_prime
@rangda_prime 2 жыл бұрын
@@theandf Well, the thing about the 40K setting is that in order to be taken seriously at all, it has to be satire, otherwise it's just schlock. But since the company made it big, there's no incentive at all for them to produce satirical content anymore since they are now part of the systen that'd be pricked at by such. As for the non-sustainability of the regime, I always saw 40K as a period setting, the stage of the Doomsday Clock being five minutes to midnight and it's implied that this can't last. The Imperium was described as crumbling from outer assault and rampant internal strife. Which makes the latest "developments" in the fiction so disturbing thematically, since it implies that such a regime can be saved by a strong, wise leader who invigorates the ailing, degenerate Imperial edifice by hearkening back to the true upstanding values of the past. And... that's not satire of fascism, that's just a non-ironic story about fascism in space working to save humanity. Sure, the satire is depressing to a certain degree, but its connection to reality makes it a vehicle for thought and critiques of the real world, and it can express contemporary sentiments and anxieties in a very straightforward fashion. Kind of like Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5, depressing as all hell, but poignant and frank about the horrors of war and what war implies about humanity. 40K had such themes back in first edition, there's an illustration of a Marine being mobbed by a pack of Orks with the caption saying "For each battle honor, a thousand heroes die alone, unsung, unremembered". A game about Space Nazis _needs_ such sentiments to avoid being subverted into fascist propaganda. And the modern incarnation of the game is quite popular among right wing extremists today.

While I will agree that the current conditions of the Imperium are less then stellar, I would "respectfully" remind you things were going just fine for a while...until the Horus incident that left the Imperium in such a desperate state that such working measures were deemed necessary to maintain the sudden millions of warfronts that just popped up over night And honestly I'd argue that was the point of the Heresy all along to create desperate times in which they could cultivate followers, cause without followers and faith the Chaos gods are about as daunting as a wet match, mere drug dealers who have to destabilize a perfectly good empires to push their product. To push the belief that being human was not enough that they were needed somehow to fix the human condition. While Im sure your mind is made up just remember, Your gods need you more then you need them and they dont want you to know that
@mausolus8466
@mausolus8466 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrTwistedLizard Let me "respectfully" remind you that those things before HH were less than fine... Emperor was a narcisstic despot that exterminated thousands planests whose population refused to submit, willingly and wittingly poisoned Primarch against each other, ruled with iron fist (only thousand times worse), betrayed and murdered his own followers when they "outlived their usefulness" (cough cough Thunder Warriors), exterminated even xenos species that weren't agressive and ruled with style "my word is law", ruthlessly eradicating anyone who dared to think different (his entire anti-religion paradox). Only reason why many people feel that pre-heresy Imperium was some sort of Golden Age utopia is because imperial propaganda says so. It is amazing how little is enough for many people to buy that. Maybe Eldar are really up to something when they say humankind is degenerated life form. Also, you mention how Chaos is dependant on Imperium, with which I kinda agree - Imperium is its greatest provider of fresh members. But the same way, Imperium is so patheticly dependant (also almost junkie-style) on enemies to even function. Even in hypothetical scenario when Imperium would defeat Chaos and eradicate all other life forms, like its goal is, they would quickly have to find/create another foe, otherwise, Imperium would colapse. And while you too has made you mind, just remember, your Emperor does not care about you and sees you as mere fuel. Once you outlive your usefulness, you will be discarded, there will be no honor, no glory. In better case, you will go down in silence and apathy from his side, or worse, they will blame you as heretic (warranted or not) and you will go down hated and spitted upon. As the Emperor wills!

More parallels with real history: many "strike breakers" and "law enforcement" agencies employed against strikers were often little more than thugs and criminals. The Pinkerton detective agency, whose main job was attacking and disrupting strikes, were criminals and murderers themselves. Those Goliaths and Eschers are in good company with real world agencies!

In old Necromunda you could run an enforcer/arbites gang. You're not an underhive gang with territory and stuff you scrape together, you're the arm of lord Helmawr and the greater Imperium. The law on Necromunda is what lord Helmawr wants you to do. The arbites/enforcer gang worked a bit differently. Instead of buying gear you got shotguns and carapace issued to you. You always had ten dudes, no more or less. Retired arbitrators got replaced with a new recruit rocking carapace and shotgun. You normally fielded half the squad as a five-man patrol, unless the enemy gang was large enough to warrant the full ten-man detail. You had a sergeant, a heavy weapons dude and also a special robo-dog handler who came with a cyber-mastiff.

Great vid, chaos is one of my favorite parts of warhammer (WFBand 40k) lore. desperation makes for strange bedfellows and chaos is alluring due to the perceived power gain, release from suffering and various other aspects. i also kind of miss the old lore where the chaos gods where not purely evil, there was "good" aspects of each of them such as khorne also being related to martial honor and nurgle being related to hope in the face of adversity. i could go on and on lol

The spire gang was introduced in the Necromunda expansion book. They're a pretty special gang. Instead of people growing upwards, they're scions of the upper-hive houses. They could have a lot of outlandish gear, as they could afford weird offworld imports. They were also pretty points-heavy, I think. The spire scions are there not for profit but to prove themselves as a coming-of-age rite or to set some record straight. Kill x amount of gangers and we let you back up, or survive y years down there without our direct help.

17:20 On the Subject of the Adeptus Arbites, it is also worth noting that they have *FULL* legal authority to charge and try anyone. In theory, they could blast into a planetary governors office and execute him on the spot for failing in his duties. In theory, of course - as there are usually alot more loyal defenders of a given governor and few Arbiters. To any regular citizen they are the embodiment of brutal on the spot justice without much of a warning. Ask for shoes within earshot of them, and in the best case scenario, your friends will make shoes from whatever limbs you no longer need as a servitor.

Faith in Chaos is a coping mechanism analogous to the Kübler-Ross stages of grief. Khorne is anger, Nurgle is depression, Tzeentch and Slaanesh are both equal parts denial and bargaining depending on the specific cult under the gods' umbrella. Note that there is no Chaos god of acceptance. Just by the casual brutality of day to day existence that humanity suffers under the Imperium, the galaxy is in a perpetual state of trauma and keeps feeding Chaos forever.

For an alternative explanation as to how Chaos worms it's way into the collective consciousness of every day people, I highly recommend the Deacon of Wounds by David Annandale. It's not as bombastic as your typical Black Library fare, instead it's a slow burn horror that shows how Chaos powers corrupt even the most pure and well-meaning intentions. Also it is genuinely gross in parts. Awesome.
