I want to move to El Paso, but the property taxes are too high😢 I love the people, though.

Don’t do it. Most that move to EP are completely oblivious to the property tax burden. The return on the high property taxes just isn’t there. Absolutely no world class amenities, no museums, no NFL, NBA, pretty much nothing to justify the high cost of owning a home.

I hear you, sometimes it can be difficult to see how everything is allocated but as someone living in El Paso, I can certainly see all the development being invested in to roads to make traffic a lot smoother to transition from point West to East. Also a lot has been invested in new infrastructure, here is a link I have with everything broken down from budget and finance, most people don’t realize these details are available to the public but it definitely helps better understand ☺️ Most people are simply warm and welcoming, I’ve traveled a lot and every time I’m back it always feels like home 🙏🏻 www.elpasotexas.gov/assets/Documents/CoEP/OMB/FY24-Budget/FY-2024-Proposed-Budget-Book-Compressed.pdf

@@barano9729I've spent countless hours on Zillow. Even with high property taxes, the amount and quality of property you get for the price, is still better in El Paso compared to anywhere else I have looked. Arkansas, Alabama etc have better "deals" in a sense, but they have humidity, bugs, sinkholes etc to make up for it. Then there are freezing cold places in the middle of nowhere, (like Iowa) where the prices are marginally better, but nothing mind blowing.

@@barano9729 As much as I hate property taxes you have to weigh other factors. I can tell you for a fact a home selling in El Paso for $200K would be selling for well over 2.5 to 3 times that in many neighborhoods in Dallas, Houston & San Antonio. So the money you save in the total purchase price offsets the higher property taxes to a degree. That's money you could invest in some high yield bonds or REIT stocks to pay your property taxes. Also home insurance will be cheaper in El Paso due to a lack of severe weather. Look I understand El Paso has some high winds & dust storms but that is nothing compared to what I experienced in Dallas with tornadoes, straight line winds & floods. I am sure El Paso has had some floods but nothing compares to the severe weather in Dallas, San Antonio & especially Houston with hurricanes. Not everybody cares about the NFL, NBA. There are some museums in El Paso that are interesting to me. The dry weather alone makes it worth it. I am sure you could say that a comparable desert city like Phoenix has much lower property taxes but your dealing with exponentially higher home prices plus a state income tax in AZ. This is what I weighed in my mind when I decided to leave Dallas for El Paso. Everybody has their own thought process.

There are options with New Mexico next to El Paso the property taxes are much cheaper compared to neighbors in the Northeast ans West Side just crossing the street/border from El Paso Texas to New Mexico.

Is water expensive to use? For example. I notice that only the wealthy properties have yards with grass.

I've seen what 750k can get you in El Paso and it does not compare to what it can get you out here in L.A. (junk) I would move out there but they have no NFL or NBA team smh if they had either one of those I'd definitely would move out there lol

There’s nothing to do in El Paso. Cheap to live but boring. Fox plaza is the only boring thing to do. 😂😂😂😂😂

I believe that no matter where you live, there is always something to do. Many people tend to compare activities to those in places like California, overlooking the nearby outdoor opportunities such as hiking, mountain biking, or weekend trips to Ruidoso. Local events and activities hosted by the community also offer plenty of engagement. While more attractions could be beneficial, it’s important to remember that they come with their own set of pros and cons. Ultimately, it’s our mindset that shapes our experiences; even the most exciting places can seem dull without the right perspective. 😀

I think perspective has a lot to do with this comment, you can have all the riches in the world and still feel unfulfilled. Same goes for your preferred location, you can live next to attraction central and yet in the end still find it “boring”. There’s always something to do when you find the right people to do it with, outdoor activities are the best in my personal opinion.
