Cumberland Trail Hiking Adventure, Head of Sequatchie in scenic Pikeville, Tennessee. We will enjoy the peaceful Sequatchie River, the wooded Selby Creek Loop, and finally the Falcon Warrior Trail, containing Devilstep Hallow Cave, one of the most significant indigenous sites in the southeast United States.
The Head of Sequatchie is the headquarters of the Justin P. Wilson Cumberland Trail State Park. On these grounds, you will walk the same trails as the first European settlers of Tennessee like Craven Sherrill, the first Sheriff of Cumberland County and Revolutionary War patriot.
The history of this are predates the European settlers, as Native Americans used this area dating back to the Mississippian Period when Devilstep Hollow Cave was an important ceremonial site. Today the cave has Mud Glyphs, Petroglyphs, and Pictographs from around AD 1300.
