I own a 2020 M340 xdrive and it’s been an all around terrific car. Considering a new one but I do enjoy the climate buttons and infotainment. Also, having the gear shifter is nice to toss if back n forth from normal to sport and can use to up and down shift other than the paddles.

IDrive 8 is better. I know it was very controversial at first but after you get used to it you’ll never look back. I place my car at 72 degrees and it cools down in the hot and heats up in the cold. I rarely alter the HVAC. Also there is no shifter getting in front of you cup holders.

The straight six in BMW is the best thing about them. This is the Goldilocks car for BMW brand. Sadly few experience it because the four cylinder turbo is the base. They don’t need M3 with this around. I wish BMW offered this with the manual. In another life I had a Bangle butt 530i non turbo with manual 2004, and like you say engine, Tran is soon, gauge amd seats were perfect. Best handling sedan I have ever owned. Idrive back then was also a mess. And don’t ask me about little or big things that went wrong with that car. You looked bad it and it would go bang and show something wrong. That damn bang chime. Great review.

Not sure what sound recording set up is being used, but there was hardly any engine noise coming through. Is the M340 sound insulation that good?

Great question. Trying something new with audio. The M340 actually has some sound augmentation, so you don't get to hear the real thing.

What about the non-Xdrive spec for NYC suburbs? Winter tires good enough if you use your grey matter and keep keys away from the kiddos?

How comfortable it is on 17inch wheels and how do you think will compare to 19inch?? Does the 17 would give a more pleasant ride on bad roads? Thanks and great review

For this car, the 17s vs the 19s wouldn't be much of a difference because the suspension is so good. Generally, the 17s would make the ride more compliant, but that depends on a number of factors related to the tire's construction. Pleasant? That would depend on how you define it. I'm looking for responsiveness, grip, and predictability in a tire on this car.

Brian, Do you recall what tires you had on this review vehicle? Performance run flat, All-season run flat, or the Michelin Pilot Alpin 4S?

This is the best all around sports sedan in the market right now, yes, its a better all rounder vs the harsh over caffeinated M3 (which is more for the track). The CT4-V is also amazing. I wouldn't touch either though as I own cars long term vs lease and don't trust either brand.

That CT4-V BW with the manual is a compelling option here, but not as easy living in this part of the world with the xDrive M340i.

@@BrianMakse thanks! Was a bit more than I’d like but that’s the market right now unfortunately. A few options I normally wouldn’t have gotten like the carbon trim, alcantara interior and upgraded leather were included but I guess I’ll take a fully loaded one over missing out on packages I wanted!

Hi Brian excellent review I have an order in for the exact same car and Color without the adaptive suspension I’m hoping that in comfort mode the ride will soften up a bit as I’m not a harsh driver (most of the time) 😊 and my wife and I don’t care for extremely harsh rides… have you driven the 330 with M sport pkg ? If so what do you think about it ? I’m just wondering if really need the extra 135 ish hp and pay the extra cost any insight would be appreciated! Thankyou

I've not driven the M sport-equipped 330, just this particular one...several times. Truth is I really enjoyed this particular tester a lot. For what it's worth, my wife is all about this car. To be fair, it's more than just the additional power, which you will appreciate. To me it's about the smoothness of the 6 cylinder. I tried the 4 cyl in the new 2-Series and it's an incredible engine, but there's nothing like the three litre six!

It's certainly the best all arround daily driver you can buy right now... BMW claim 382HP and 0-100kmh in 4,3 sec, but the reality in the dyno is 427WHP and 3.8 sec 0-100kmh with PS 4S tires, who is very close to supercars numbers at a very affordable price! No doubt in my mind, the M340i is the best bangs for the bucks sedan in the car market today. Should I order one Brian?

Good review Brian. I currently drive a 2019 M2 Comp. and the warranty expires in October. I really don't like the look of the new M2 so I have disqualified it . Could buy a M3 Comp. but as I'm turning 65 shortly and after reviewing this car I think this may be the better choice and I will save 35K as I'm in Australia. Would you agree ? Subbed.

@@boeingdriver29 saving $35k is nothing to sniff at, but this will be less lively and responsive relative to the M3. It's plenty fast enough to get you into trouble and sporting enough to be enjoyable, but you'll notice that it's just not quite as sharp or as crisp as the M2, let alone an M3, plus its much more understated.

If you don't want a manual then this car is the choice pick in the price range. The m3 is way too much car for most people and has now ballooned in priced.

MSport Pro is just the standard brakes with red calipers. The M Performance brakes are bigger and the 17" wheels in this review won't fit on it. M Sports Pro is just an appearance package. Nothing performance related!
