The 2022 Toyota Landcruiser 300 Sahara has just launched in Australia, and I was lucky enough to get the chance to drive one, thanks to Berwick Toyota.
The 300 series has got a big job on its hands, as the 200 series is such a popular car here in Australia.
It needs to continue the theme of being one of the best off road vehicles you can buy but coping with the daily grind too.
There's a new engine and gearbox in the 300 series; a 3.3 V6 turbodiesel coupled to a 10-speed transmission, which replaces the 4.5 V8 engine in the 200 series.
A huge thanks to the team at Berwick Toyota for allowing me to borrow their car to film this video.

Thanks for the informative review. We’ve ordered VX a few weeks ago. I found it was car like to drive, except for the size. We’re upgrading from a Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed.

@@WebbyOnCars I put in for a 2023 build which should be feb to march delivery …I thought the assembly glitches should be sorted by then , production ramp up is always prone to issues etc.

@Ben Biu Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it. I can’t remember what the spare wheel is, and I can’t find any information on the internet about it. I would imagine it had a full size wheel though.

There are two other engine options in the Land Cruiser 300, but they’re not for sale in Ozzyland. One is a 4 litre naturally aspirated V6 with around 201kW mated to a 6AT, and another one is a 3.4 litre twin turbo V6 with around 305kW mated to a 10AT. However, the 3.4 litre twin turbo V6 is sold in Ozzyland as the Lexus LX, but not as a Land Cruiser. Plus, in the United States, they don’t sell the new Land Cruiser anymore. They however have the new Lexus LX, and the Toyota Sequoia (a full size SUV based on the new Toyota Tundra but built on the same platform as the Land Cruiser 300).

@@WebbyOnCars No problem. The Toyota Sequoia is a rival to the Ford Expedition, Nissan Patrol and Chevrolet Tahoe. The old Sequoia had a 5.7 litre V8 with 284kW, but the new Sequoia has a twin turbo V6 hybrid with 326kW.

Mate a mild tune on the v8 will smoke the v6 and still be more reliable. No tail gate ? The only good thing is the RS twin locks but again 6k mod for the 200. So the 300 is ass I will stick to the 200

@MadMan To Valhalla you’re not wrong. The V8 is so underpowered from factory. The 300 is nicer to drive than the 200 in my opinion though.

Yes, it has privacy glass in the rear side windows and rear window.

Centre console space with the fridge is disappointing. Each series it gets worse. Not much storage space other than glovebox which isn’t practical for driver access.

LC300 let down by a lot of flaws, can not turn head lights off. No 2nd Battery, no 12 volt outlets in rear space for camp fridge. exposed fuel solenoids. Bonnet flex's and vibrates.

@Brave Bear There's definitely some bits that have gone backwards, and it depends on how you want to use the car, but overall, it's a good car

That new tailgate is a tragedy. Split is so much better for touring. A real mistake. Like a giant softroader!

I’ve got a Prado which has a side hinged tailgate. I find that very practical, while many reviewers find it utterly useless. I guess there are pros and cons to each concept. Making the best of what you’ve got is key, no matter the type of tailgate.

@Vi VaRo If you mean the EKDSS system, then it is only available on the Gr Sport version

@@WebbyOnCars hello. No, the KDSS is a system to prevent body roll and enhance articulation. I mean a suspension which enables adjustment of the springing to adjust ride height or compensate for heavy loads. The LC100 and 200 were available with some kind of air suspension. It may not be desirable to everyone in all markets. But if you need a combination of excellent on- and off-road ability under very different loading conditions, it’s hard to do without air suspension. I’m therefore surprised it’s not even on the higher spec models. Not sure what Toyotas strategy is. There should at least be a support spring at the back to compensate heavy loads and trailers.

Great review... But seriously a CD player.? I’m 64 and I don’t even have CD’s anymore.. If it had a record player able to play 33 & 45 records I would seriously consider buying it 😂😂😂

@The Geographist ‘dirty finger prints and feet everywhere’ is actually what I said. You can’t avoid getting dirt on the floor, it’s bound to happen, but it’s more noticeable on beige carpet.

I think its been hit with an ugly stick inside and out, i suppose the 1st 200s also had abit of ugly and got better with evolution, maybe the 300 might....
