In today's video, you learn the ideal golf swing. Also, you learn the left side vs. right side dominant which is best for you. The perfect golf swing setup, how to maintain a consistent grip for maximum power and control, the critical role of body rotation and side transfer, and tips for keeping your club on the right and left path throughout the swing.
You will probably be most comfortable swinging a golf club from the same side of the ball. As a right-handed hitter or golfer, you will stand to the left of the plate or ball with your left hand at the bottom of the bat or club. The opposite is true if you are a lefty.
Determining your dominant hand when first playing golf is important in helping to develop as a player. Neither hand has an advantage in the game both lefties and righties are successful. You will find much more success hitting the ball for distance and accuracy from your dominant side. Knowing your dominant hand is also essential when picking out the proper clubs.
Oftentimes, this dominant hand will be the same as the dominant hand used for playing golf. This is not always a perfect measure, though. Think about which side of the plate you swing a baseball bat from. You will probably be most comfortable swinging a golf club from the same side of the ball.
As a beginner, swinging the club might be awkward from both sides, but one side should feel smoother and more natural than the other. Get into a proper golf stance with your feet a little more than shoulder-width apart and the ball just slightly closer to your front foot. Take your backswing, then swing forward, connect with the ball, and follow through. After a few tries, it should be clear which side is dominant.
The best way to determine which hand is dominant when playing golf is to go out and practice swinging a club. Go to a driving range with a right and left-handed club and practice hitting the ball.
Therefore if you plan to go golfing and don’t know which way you swing a golf make sure you practice and try both ways to find out what is more comfortable for you. Once you find which feels the best for you left swing or right swing, you should make sure to stick with that hand for going.
Whether you're a seasoned golfer or just starting out, understanding your dominant side can make a huge difference in your game.
Discover your personal golf swing style by watching this comprehensive analysis. Whether you're a beginner golfer or a seasoned pro, understanding which side suits you best can make a world of difference in your performance on the golf course.

Chuck this video is so incredibly valuable & essential for my gilf swing. I am a totally Right side dominate person (throwing arm being the right & my left trail arm being my pretty weak & uncoordinated) ie. I'm a Right side dominate person that plays Lefthanded) I started out as a young kid using my dominant Right side as my lead side..being Lefthanded). My golf was very powerful & natural during this time. BUT i have spent the last 30yrs totally confused by the predominantly Trail arm 'throwing' swing Teachers & videos. This Trail side throwing action is totally foreign & weak for me yet ive been consistently told by many that you don't pull with the Front lead side in the golf swing!!!..this has caused me tremendous confusion in my golf swing over many years. This video of yours today is an absolute Godsend for me & i thank you dearly for it. The way you have identified & explained the differences of both swings & also a 'combo of both' has truely clarified my confusion of using a Trail sided throwing action when that is totally foreign & unnatural to me. Many many thanks for the quality & knowledge that you provide here as it is 1st class. 17:29

Chuck, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and you continue to provide excellent instructional golf videos. I basically learned my golf swing as a subscriber to your site and developed a left side dominate swing as a result. “Pull vs push” makes so much sense to me so I continue to use the left side dominate swing type and this video confirms my belief it’s best for me. Thank you!

Chuck-this was one of the most illuminating vids that I have seen in a long, long while. It really helped put some pieces of the puzzle in place. I would really love it if you could further expand on swing elements that fit (or don’t fit) in each type of swing. Thanks so much for your unique and thoughtful perspective.

I was working on a swing much like the lead side swing. Passive arms. I pulled a lot of shots. The Right side throw produced more distance and a easy draw. Also could work the ball better. I’ll take the throw to the course today.

This was really eye-opening to me! I am normally left handed, but play golf "regular". Friends keep saying to me: You're a lefty, you have to play on the other side. But to me, it feels natural and I have a good lenght in my shots. It's a bit like hitting a backhand in tennis. Now, I finally know why and am more confident, that I am not "on the wrong track". Really appreciate it, Chuck, thanks a lot!

Ok, Chuck. Former member here. I thought I was a right hand, throw the clubhead type swinger 😮. Made sense to me, being right handed.I have struggled for years with consistent contact. Today, I watched this video before my 8 AM round. After 6 holes of slicing, topping, and 120 yard drives, I remembered your video. Very relaxed, not much effort, easy swing. Right hand barely on the club. This resulted in a birdie on 7, a bogey on 8, and a par on 9. I felt like I could control the club without trying to. I'll be rewatching that video, you better betcha... turns out, I think I'm a puller, not a thrower. Thanks, Chuck.

Keep it up. Feel like you're hitting the ball backhanded. That's why you wear the glove on your left hand, it's a backhanded game. Acceleration, release, all happen naturally. Let your left arm dominate the swing and the release times itself.

This is a fantastic instructional video about a topic not regularly discussed. The common analogy is skipping a rock with your trail arm, but for those that are left handed, this is a foreign movement that would lead to a fabricated and forced body motion. Because I shoot right, but am lead arm dominant, I love the analogy of throwing a frisbee. That helped developed a natural hip motion, and really understand how to release the club with my left hand alone. In combination with understanding parametric acceleration, the downward force propelling my shoulder upwards, my striking has drastically improved

Hi, I broke my neck twice :) I can shoot 70's with both methods and i struggle stick with one simply because i have always use right side before. I find that not having the right hand involved can help it fold and keep the elbows closer together and the club in front of your chest better and thus easier to flatten path down.

Very good interpretation of the trail and lead side dominant swings. This is something I myself have been experimenting with recently. Just switched back to the lead side because it seems much more consistent and accurate as well as less strenuous. I tend to swing really quick though, so it has been a chore at times to be patient as you have stated we should be, working with the lead side. I appreciate the explanation of going to the range and practicing with right and left arm to see which feels more normal. That I will use because I have not really heard it put that way. Again, thanks for the great instruction and I will try this soon with hopes of discovering the true normalcy of my swing...

Thank you this is so much help because l am probably in between the two and of course not knowing l am doing it. My right is way stronger than the left but l experienced the lead hand swing and it's really good and effortless. My trail hand is dominant right hand is more of a work. So being in between l hook the ball badly now l can fix it by doing either one or the other.

I have always naturally been a lead side dominant swinger, but I find that as I try to add speed my body tries to pull really hard on the club and I can't get the club head to catch up at impact. I've recently been experimenting with more right side movements to get a more complete release at impact. I'm probably not being patient enough in either pattern to allow the release to develop naturally when I try to swing at maximum speed but using the right side more seems to help give me more speed with less effort.

I am right side very dominated because I did play team handball alot and well. I have a very explosive hip turn ready from an underarm throw that I was an expert in, but somehow really struggle to make speed out of it. In fact when I turn slower I get better results better contact but still feels like I can't transform any of the big energy that I have into swingspeed. Also struggling with getting hands in front of the ball Nad compress the ball owt the irons. Any ideas maybe 😮😊🎉? Nice video BTW!

And I have been switching every now and then between both.Also with putting I can do both sides left handed and right handed and switch the hands around 😂so not quite sure which is best just yet😅

Think of the swing objectively. For speed you need levers. The more levers the more potential energy. The left arm moves at the wrist and shoulder. The right has the shoulder wrist and elbow all of which are loaded more powerfully than the left and are in a position to deliver more power than the the left ever could by itself

For most golfers, using their dominant hand is the easiest to learn and feel. Training the non-dominant hand takes time. If you lack power, the trail arm needs to be used more. If you don't want to use the trail arm for power you have to learn to use the body and legs more for power.

Hi Jack, sorry I must've missed your post. If I understand your question, what you really want is both to some degree, but always the right hand is the predominant power source. You can produce power with a completely passive right arm as well but this requires much more body speed which isn't necessary. An ideal is a blend of the two with the right being the power

I am right handed dominant but play, and bat, lefthanded. Sometimes, I go to the course with the left side feeling dominant, so I go with that. Other times my right side is dominant. I literally cannot commit to one side or the other. Tony Final said in Golf Digest that he doesn't think of one side over the other, but that he feels both sides equally. Is there any merit to this idea? I've tried it with mixed results. What are your thoughts?
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 10 ай бұрын
Feel is extremely subjective so I would only put a grain of salt into what someone says they "feel". The swing should be balanced, but all golfers will tend to use more one than the other, no matter what they feel. For most golfers, using their dominant hand is the easiest to learn and feel. Training the non-dominant hand takes time. If you lack power, the trail arm needs to be used more. If you don't want to use the trail arm for power you have to learn to use the body and legs more for power.

LOL. yeah we all play cricket over here in Europe. Fun fact: We do play more Field Hockey than Americans, and those are usually more often trail side dominant. I was one of those until after the first lesson I learned that in golf you're allowed to bring the clubhead higher than your shoulder (which is a foul in Field Hockey) I slowly developed a lead side dominance to the point that I started to overdraw.. ah well... hook it

27min ish "they play cricket and other sports and don't learn how to throw" lol Cricketers have throw far better than most baseballers. They bowl the ball to initiate the play, but after the ball is hit and the fielder collects the ball the return throw can be like that in baseball, but often requires pinpoint accuracy to hit the stumps or return the ball directly over and close to the top of the stumps from various distances. But you sure know your golf swing, love this vid thanks

First of all it’s to late for me still swimming against the current! After suffering a stroke which paralyzed left side ontop of an earlier broken left wrist, lead side dominance is not a true option. Luckily I am right hand dominant, but I was born in England aghh the non throwing European. No distance off of the tee. I cannot differentiate instructional videos that promise bonus yards if they’re right or left side dominant even yours has that issue. Maybe all clickbait should have LH or RH in them. Sure make life a little easier. Imagine walking into a classroom to learn about anything and the course was in Chinese.
