I Survived 7 Days of Living With No Human Connection

Discover Connection

Since we are all practicing social distancing, I wanted to see how I would handle spending 1 week in TOTAL social isolation. So I spent 1 week without internet, no social media, no phone, and no human connection at all, not even with my roommate Matt.
The goal was to learn more about the effects of isolation and mental health, as well as the importance of human connection.

I became disabled in 2019 and have been alone since then. All my "friends" stopped talking to me and didnt wanna hangout with me since then. I have a dog and she pretty much keeps me from snapping.. but it gets really depressing being alone all day and night, and waking up to just sit alone with your thoughts daily. I got to the point where I stopped dressing up, stopped doing my makeup, stopped doing things I loved like art or even playing video games. I just dont feel drive to do anything anymore, and I feel useless and worthless... 🤦🏼‍♀️ Depression really messes with you. Idk why I'm mentioning all this right now, I guess it just feels kinda good to get it off my chest, even if no one reads this or I later delete this

You really don't need people around you to be happy specially fake friends unfortunately. I do change my number often and I talk to people I know once every 3 to 4 months. I travel alone and do everything myself. Once you realize how good to be alone you'll be grateful.

Hey! I am so sorry to read this. I know, that dealing with depression is so hard.. and I know, what I am talking about.. but, if you want to be surrounded by people, you have to find that people. We are in the world that is connected (right now, I am answering you from my bed in the Czech Republic😁). So I guess I just wanted to make a point, that all over the world there are wholesome people and you just have to search for them and also people will be searching for you! I think, that you are incredible person, because you shared your story with the whole internet. I wish you best of luck!

That is pathetic. I go weeks without seeing a single person. I do not even have coworkers. I am certain I can go two years with absolutely no human contact at all. I could probably go even longer. The most I have done was three and a half months with absolutely no human contact at all, not even letters in the mail, telephone calls, nor world wide web. I barely even felt it. I learned to be completely alone from an early age. Even today, I have no friends, no girlfriend, no aquaintences. In my life, I have only had one friend and one girlfriend. The most miserable time in my life was when I paid attention to some stupid doctors an I force myself to try to exist as a social human. I got lied to, used, betrayed, painfully abandoned, robbed, mocked, ridiculed, abused, and much worse. There were probably 18% good times and the rest were bad times. That was 30 December 1998 to 8 August 2000 at 18:34. I returned back to the life I knew of no social existence and all returned to a very rewarding life. Seven days is something I do without contact many times a month.

@@samdobie6748 Interesting you mentioned that. I was incorrectly diagnosed as autistic. I never really acknowledged the diagnoses. It seems too remotely possible for me to give it much credence. Mental health professionals can not possibly be correct in all situations. I believe I am one that was misdiagnosed. This was the same psychiatrist that diagnosed me with an erroneous IQ score, as well. I have no faith in him.

@@indridcold8433 Why is it pathetic? People have different necessities in all means, there are people who can't be lonely and some who can't be full of people, the pathetic thing is the people who aren't aware of that, and may hurt another one by not recognizing that, I refer to for example those who (if I understood correctly) do it to you, and now you doing the same by reflecting that.

This is an extremely relatable video as someone dealing with agoraphobia. It’s been a huge chunk of my life now and I can’t wait to get out there and trying to be brave enough to make connections with people. Social media has helped me get to a point where I’m not as scared of other people but it is something that sucks you in and can have a huge negative impact of your mental health. Being stuck inside for so many years it’s a double edged sword really. I need it to have any semblance of human contact but it also harms me; finding that balance is super hard but I keep trying to find it. Anyway thank you for the video it was great and I’ve subscribed so I can catch more.

For me this hits such a soft spot for me. When my grandmother passed away I fell into a 3 day depressive episode in college where I literally didn’t do anything really for 3 days. I didn’t really drink water all the much, eat much, and I think I rarely left my dorm to even go to the bathroom. I didn’t check my phone or my classes. In those three days not only did I have to process the very very large loss I experienced but also everything else I had put off due to college and everything else in life. It was and will continue to be the worst 3 days (except the day my grandma died) in my life. Although after almost 2 years of that I recently just took a month break from social media and noticed such a huge difference in my daily mood, activity, and how much motivation I had. Anyway, thank you for making this video! I do really appreciate the time that went into this.

I've survived this way for months and years. You deal with it. Some of us don't have the luxury of having friends, or we don't belong in any groups. Tough luck, get over yourself and find something solitary to do instead if you have no friends, no one to hang out with, or you've no choice but to be isolated for weeks and months on end because people are too busy or you can't seem to make friends no matter how hard you try. You have to make do with what you have and accept what you cannot change. Hobbies are everything, people are temporary and fleeting, they are nothing in the grand scheme of things and are worth nothing to your happiness.

I do this for months at a time. My only social interaction is when I say “Thank you. You too.” to the cashier at the grocery store when they tell me to have a nice day once a week. My only family I had is dead or alienated and I have no friends or significant other even though I tried to. The KZfaq comment section is the only other place I put my thoughts out into the world but besides that I could die and no one would find my body for months. I don’t even care if I die because there is nothing to live for if I can’t experience my life with someone. I’m just surviving.

It is an interesting experiment and thx for documenting it. I would say it is being alone but not really isolated, let me put it this way; you can always get help by just using the phone or calling Matt. While watching I thought of Thor Heyerdahl that sailed/floated from South America to French Polynesia. They were 4 or 5 men on the boat, so they weren't "alone" but they were Isolated. No one to call, No safety net as there was absolutely ZERO chance for rescue if they capsized nor could they just about the experiment if they got bored/annoyed by it. After landing they talked about a life-changing silence and sense of isolation that deeply changed them even though they had 4 others to talk to.
