Indigenous American art always strikes me as being of the highest order of expression, and if you're an artist you'll know what I mean. The neg/pos, the recession and shadow, the line itself, the ability to coherently encapsulate both abstract and figurative concepts into a single glyph, it is such a mind blowing complex. From the northernmost carvings to the Mayan stuff, I will never get my head around its deep sophistication. I love talks like this because it helps non practitioners to get a grip on that. Thanks Robert!

I would have loved to ask “does he study the animals, observe them outdoor, before drawing or start from basic rule of thumb?”

Please answer the question. Is it possible to depict a Thunderbird with two killer whales in its paws? This is a huge bird and must lift two killer whales at the same time, one in each paw. Everywhere I study the work, there is only one whale in the clutches of the Thunderbird. Thank you
