One of the first things you learn about Matteo when you encounter him is that he is from Palermo Sicily, Italy. He was born in 1996, and his father, Vincenzo, is a classical guitarist. He taught Matteo classical guitar, and when he switched to electric, he did not switch to using a pick.

In rock, the next evolution after Eddie was Yngwie (regardless of how hated he may be). Matteo is several evolutions later, not really so much in rock, but in fusion. And then you have to consider Holdsworth, Frank Gamble, etc. In any case, Matteo's a genius!

Italy, Sicily, Palermo... just like me!!! 😎 Actually Matteo seems going a little more fast than the movie! See that white piece of plastic between the puppies? He use that as a rest for the thumb... his finger style is half way between the flamengo guitar and the fingered bass, but he uses also his nails (long and hardened also with gel) to get the "pick attack". In the movie the last note has big stuff underneath. Maybe yeah a 24 frets guitar... but some pitch shifting too and also some harmonizer stuff (Eventide H3000 at that time i think), and a lot of reverb tail. Michael... check the "Drop D" video of Matteo... Man it rocks!

Tim Hensen or Henson plays like that with about a thousand notes per bar. His band Polyphia has a song with Steve Vai. Some of young guys are on the level with Eddie and Steve Vai, even SRV and Jimi. But in forty years of playing, don't think I've ever seen someone play as fast as Tim...
