Nothing quite says "boatlife" more than the realisation that your to-do list just grew a lot longer! Boat maintenance is never-ending, and here in Almerimar Boatyard is one of those times where we stand back, look at our hull, and mutter a few choice words under our breaths before accepting the task ahead.
Rhythm is 34 years old, so it's not a surprise that the many ancient layers of primers, epoxy, and antifouling have finally started to cause problems... and then there's always the dreaded word... rust! Another problem is that we are meant to be sailing through the Gibraltar Straits to the Canaries soon if we want to sail across the Atlantic. We had better get to work!

The job list might get smaller, but it never quite ends! It's all worth it though. Thank you 😊⚓️

A labour of love if ever I saw one! I’d definitely go for the whole sandblasting thing next time, but well done - ‘persistence is key’ Tony 🤨

A lot of love, and a lot of labour! Sandblasting would definitely have been the better option, but we know now for next time 😃

Woman asks English man how he is feeling.... answer ... 'we have a lot to do'. Love it! 🤣 Subscribed and enjoying catching up on your channel.

That's what I like to call a Tony-ism 😄 The sub is much appreciated!

Oof. I know you said that the hull LOOKs worse than it was... but that would terrify me! So cool you guys know how to do all of this work yourself. It was really cool getting a breakdown from Tony about the work. I love the diary approach to the storytelling as well.

Tony is great when it comes to this kinda stuff, very practically minded! And thank you, it's a fun way to pull it all together 😊

He certainly earned it! He refused to be beaten by the state of the hull 😄

Yea hauling out means hard nasty work but it is very rewarding to repair and paint what needs it 👍

Seeing the nasty patches get ground back and filled with the primer was SO satisfying. Slow, but satisfying. Rhythm looked like a dalmatian by the end of that process 😅

That Hull 😨Hopefully y'all can get back in the water quick! Tony was doing a stellar job staying inside the lines though, I know all my paint repairs ended up looking like squares as I just rolled over the whole area 😂Was almost a little disappointed you didn't end up at mcdonalds after all the jokes, but the restaurant you ended up at looked so good!

There may have been a degree of military-level perfectionism at play 😄 And the restaurant was good, although sadly no lobster! We will just have to go and catch our own at this rate.

Hope you can inspect the entire inside of the hull that is usually where the biggest surprises lie. Best of luck TnT

Thats the worry! We checked where we could and didn't spot anything nasty brewing on the inside. Most times, our bilge is so dry that it's dusty. Which is also a positive 😅

@@CutterboveSailing dry bilge is good When you you haul next time for sand blasting you may want to hire a ultrasound to measure the places you can't access.
@CutterboveSailing
@CutterboveSailing Ай бұрын
@AnthonyParr-do5jk ah that's not something we'd thought of, so thank you! It would be really good to be reassured of the steel integrity, especially while in the boatyard and in a position to deal with any problems. We'll do some research!
