Baby orangutans in particular are very docile. Perhaps you confused them with chimpanzees, who once they go through puberty can become unpredictable and potentially lethally dangerous if the person dealing with them is not a trained expert. But even chimpanzees, being the most unpredictable and dangerous of apes, are relatively harmless and docile as babies. Baby orangutans instinctively want to hug and cling to people because in nature they spend almost all their time clinging to their mothers for safety and comfort. Thus, if she were to hug Peanut, it would be exactly what peanut wants - and peanut would cling to her and become calmer and more content. Now, once Peanut became a fully grown adult male, hugging it would not be a good idea - but that is clearly not what the OP was talking about.
