So I'm on the way back to LA from a bad break up in New York and the guy gets me a first class ticket I assume to remind me of what I'd be missing? Anyway, my face is red, I've got a blazing headache and a broken heart and an older woman sits down next to me and starts to chat -- I'm thinking, no. No. I just can't do this. But I'm really polite so I let her talk and she was a very spunky, small, compact woman with a lot of energy. She says "what do you do" and I say I work in film. She says to me with as much confidence as Richard Dreyfuss has -- "My son's an actor and he's going to be a very big star." Yeah, okay. So now I fake the nap thing and when we arrive in LA we start chatting again and she says "Be sure to look for my son in the movies -- he has a new Movie coming out called Jaws. So now I'm thinking "and he's an extra or something" So I say who is your son and she says Richard Dreyfuss. And I actually didn't know who he was off the top of my head. I soon found out though and when Richard talks about how he always had all the confidence in the world and knew he would be a star I tell you he sounds exactly like his mother. She had that same attitude about him so he's not just making up stories about how cocky he was. Every time I see him I think about his mother -- the apple didn't fall far from that tree.

There would be more public interest if he were not a pompous, no talent, blowhard.

YES, RICHARD, and Thanks for "speaking out" on all of your videos. AGAIN I SHALL TRY to see if you can receive a message.. I went to the Richard Dreyfuss Initiative and signed up and TRIED to send via the " Contact Us." RAY STARK told me at our interview, that he had a friend who might be interested in "producing children's musicals", especially the one about the little 8 year old cellist, who gets up on stage to add some humor to the dry wit of the " Famous First Four" Presidents. I lost the piece of paper he'd written a phone number on, for his friend ' BRUNO" One of the music samples is on UTube, as " Time Goes By." The music doesn't "age", and "Honey" reminds viewers of that in her musical; the people do! However, in your particular "case." it doesn't seem evident. You, nor the concepts YOU elicit won't age either! It seems the TERM of "underscore" in regard to your info about Bette Davis, might not actually "state" what was happening to her script? MY experience has been that the orchestrator often OVER-SCORES and ruins the delicacies of some of the characters' dialogue nuisances ? WILL TRY AGAIN to find this guy Ray referred to as being BRUNO. Ray also offered me a screen test; I wasn't interested. And he also asked if I wanted to meet with Neal Simon, whose office was right next door at Universal...but I was in a hurry to get to another appointment. STORY OF MY MUSICAL LIFE....Just wanted to get home a finish another song!! I SINCERELY hope someone you are in touch with, might read this and help me to find that friend of Ray's, named ' BRUNO." What makes this stand out from other similar interviews is the degree of unfiltered honesty Mr. Dreyfus shows, but sprinkled with wisdom and actually kindness to the young actors there. At times brutally frank about the realities of the industry he at the same time describes its potential for positive even noble influence on the world. Easily the best, most insightful actor presentation I’ve seen.

Politically, Richard Dreyfuss and myself are on polar opposites of the political spectrum but his honesty comes through and he has a lot of wisdom that everyone can learn from. Very smart man.

I don’t believe Dreyfus has ever produced a false moment in any of his film performances. Even his momentary appearance in The Graduate is memorable.

The Charles Laughton movie Dreyfuss is discussing is called This Land is Mine (1943). I saw this movie decades ago and it has always stayed with me. It is a very powerful movie, especially when one considers the time in which it was made.

. From N.Y. Film Academy website: New York Film Academy presented acting icon Richard Dreyfuss with an honorary degree at the Los Angeles campus in *NOVEMBER 2011* , following a screening of his Academy Award-winning film, The Goodbye Girl. He discussed his early years in theatre and how it trained him for his film career. He also described how he dealt with a once-flailing career, and how he dealt with fame, saying, “Celebrity is the stupidest thing on Earth. The only good thing is that you can get a table at a restaurant.” Dreyfuss gave inspiring answers to questions from acting students, saying, “If you’re going to devote yourself to this industry that can destroy you, you have to be proud of it, and you have to know why you’re doing it…. To show mankind a true picture of himself is hard, and embarrassing, and glorious.” .

Has he done a book about his own career, or perhaps better yet, "codified" his views on acting, stage, writing and film in a book or series of books...? If not, he should, in my opinion. He's very thoughtful and, of course, experienced...!

Richard Dreyfuss is a "tell it like it is" guy. As an actor he's Duddy Kravitz getting older but still the Brooklyn 'gonif' who's gonna get his no matter what. Movie after movie his voracious needs get an aging Duddy into troubles from which he must extract himself. HA HA HA. He claims to find competition and proving himself the better actor against fellow actor in auditions dehumanizing. However, he tells casting directors, producers, etc. that he, Dreyfuss, is best tailored
@robertsullivan70802 жыл бұрын
fits the persona of the character being cast. He, Dreyfuss, knows the character like an old suit.Like Kravitz, Dreyfuss wants then Dreyfuss gets.

he's learned, when he was young he was incredibly full of himself: you could hear it in his interviews and see it in his performances.
