This is stuffed full of totally useful and insightful writing tips. I have Joe’s book and it’s also a great resource - worth every penny. The ‘sleep on it’ technique is extremely helpful and works for *me* for all kinds of situations, not just writing. The trick is getting out of your own way and letting yourself stop obsessing. 😳

I was looking for Babylon 5 and I ended here, but I dont regret it. I watched whole video. The questions and answers were great. I hope those students find what they are looking for and find their success. Also Mr. Stratzinskys communication with students was excellent.. Wish them all the best

Joe saved my life. When B5 first aired I was on the metaphorical ledge. I kept myself going by telling myself that if I dropped from the ledge then I wouldn't know how the story ended. It became my sole reason for clinging on. Then something magical happened in season 2, Delenn happened. To an in the closet trans woman with crippling dysphoria it was so obvious that Delenn represented trans people. For the first time in my life I had a positive trans coded role model. Her story gave me hope. 10 years ago I finally came out, I have now emerged from my own personal chrysalis. If it wasn't for JMS creating B5 & Delenn I don't think I'd be here now.

I'm not a writer (or an aspiring writer) but I just find JMS fascinating. His analogies and anecdotes are wonderful! As a B5 fan, watching this helped me better understand what he was thinking when he wrote the story line for the series.

Ms Rumsley brings out the point that we don't have super heroes or live in alternate universes. Makes it sound like we have nothing to relate to. We can't be heroes. I have to disagree. A hero is a common fallible ordinary person that does extraordinary things. There is no other JMS but his universes and characters are fallible and consistently learn life lessons. Grow as characters. Even the villains consistently change. But the writings inspire through the characters voices. Their development told stories that are still relevant today. This was well executed in the telling of B5. No character was perfect but each character grew and their voices were relatable. To this day humanity is in the forefront and very relevant. Each having the ability to go from ordinary to extraordinary. Going through emotions; belief, decisions, stepping out of one's comfort zone, desire, love, hate, prejudices, procrastination, ulterior motives, perspectives, protectiveness, determination, asking the questions... All that being said people are drawn to these characters and inspired to be more like them, as far as learning to be more... more kind, protective, stand up to bad people to keep people safe. Thats what we draw from characters like Spider-Man, Thor, Superman... like JMS said, standing under superman, how can you NOT stop that thief. Just my opinion. I always loved comics and sci-fi and fantasy. I love to be entertained but I LOVE a GREAT story. JMS thank you for sharing your wonderful worlds, I'm inspired.
