Awesome video brother. I actually had this happen to me about a month ago when my kitchen sink clogged up and my dishwasher door wasn’t shut all the way and water ran all over my kitchen floor. Now I know what I need to do. I’ll be putting a high loop under my sink ASAP. Thanks for the tips

Wow this explains why we always had gunk in the bottom of our expensive brand dishwasher. We got rid of it. Now I know what was wrong!

Yeah that totally can cause stuff to sit in there. I have seen dishwasher drain lines that were completely clogged because the drain was sitting that way.

High loop drain systems provide forced discharge from the dishwashers pump, all the way to the in-sink disposal or drain T. In doing so, the pump pressure helps clear debris from the entire drain hose and the disposal/drain T. I live where code requires air gape. Air gap dose a great job of ensuring sink backup/plugged drains don't run back to the washer but, the down hose from the air gap, to the disposal does not receive pressurized flow to eject debris. Hence, be sure that the down drain, from an air gap is a constant downward slope, or plan to clean it out yearly or every time the dishwasher drain cycle ejects water through the air gap , on top of the counter.

All great information. So many people these days don’t want an air gap due to the look on top the counter. Would much rather have an high loop than nothing.

Lol! By far the best dishwasher ever!! I have owned a few different I’ve the years. We have an LG now and have had issues, but customer service was awesome and they sent a tech out to fix the issues. I think a cheap dial style whirlpool is the way to go. The simpler the better.

Changing out a sink my wife bought last week. Noticed the new sink doesn't have a hole for the existing air gap, so thanks to this clear cut video, going with the high loop instead of drilling a new hole in the counter top. Any recommendations on a dishwasher hose connector kit to a G/D? Thank you again for the great video.

Wouldn't the check valve at the dishwasher pump end prevent sewage from getting into the washer? The sewage would just be pushed up through the drain into the disposal every drain cycle?

Has to be at least 10" above the end of the hose.

Can the air gap be installed on the inside of the cabinet or does it have to go through to the outside of it?

Good question. I have seen people install them under the sink. If it clogs it will flood out the cabinet. If it is going through the counter top or sink then the hope is that it just goes in the sink and down the drain.

I have a brand new GE Dishwasher and it turns off a few moments after being started. Could this be caused by the drain with no high loop?

@@ThatFixItGuy this was it. positioned the drain hose to the underside of the countertop and the problem went away.

@@ThatFixItGuy okay plot twist! the dishwasher stopped draining again. The appliance store sent a repairman. he found that the drain hose was obstructed by a sticker that was attached to the hose. The installer did not remove the tag that wraps around the hose. somehow the tag ended up covering the hose. The obstruction was removed and the dishwasher runs like a dream.

Oh wow! That is a weird one. I had asked a couple other plumbers about the high loop making the drain work and it did not make sense to any of us. This makes sense. Glad they found the issue for you!
