Water inlet valve is replaced because dishwasher does not fill with water. This is the most common reason that water won't fill the dishwasher. Other potential problems are the hose, and the float switch.
For my dishwasher, the part number is W10648041

Very detailed. Thank you for step by step. Haven’t tried this yet but will. Tips of what not to do are great. After checking that water is coming through the hose, I will order the valve because my float mechanism seems ok. Again, good job. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the video. I have to specifically thank you for 2 things I seldom find in diy videos. First, your close up instruction showed me exactly what I had to do...I really needed that. Lastly, you showed us your mistakes. I would have totally had those same problems if you didn't include them. Thank you!!!

Thank you for the nice video. I found it helpful. Just a quick comment about the brass inlet connector style on your valve. I know that you saw Teflon tape on the blue plastic threads of the original valve when you took it apart, so it is natural that you would assume that Teflon tape is needed. But that style of connector (which happens to be the same as the female end of a garden hose) is meant to seal via a flat rubber washer on the face at the bottom of the threads, and *not* on the threads. This can be seen because your brass fitting has a freely rotating thumb nut (just like the female end of a garden hose). Using Teflon tape makes the job a lot harder as you noted, and it is not necessary since the seal is actually made by a silicone gasket (again, just like in a garden hose) and not on the threads. Use of Teflon tape, if it prevents you from tightening the thumb nut enough to make a good seal on the bottom face, can therefore cause problems with leaks, and isn’t recommended for your style of connector. Some of these OEM valves use an internal pipe thread, and in that case of course Teflon tape is needed. The leak you saw at the end of your job was most likely from this connector, and not from the black outlet hose (where you added a hose clamp) for 2 reasons. One is the point I made above, but more importantly, the black outlet hose is on the low-pressure outlet side of the solenoid valve. If the solenoid valve is closing properly, the leak can’t be on the outlet side of your valve (where you added the hose clamp). One possibility is that after the valve opened once it filled the short vertical section of the black hose, which then leaked the gravity-fed low-pressure water standing in the vertical section of the hose. This would have eventually stopped, but it certainly needed to be fixed. Thanks again for the nice video.

This was an excellent video. It costs me $25 to fix my dishwasher. It would have been less but the fitting was permanently stuck to the old valve so I had to buy a new one. The worst part was the screws on the kick plate were stripped. thanks for the video !

Thanks for this. It is pretty much my exact dishwasher, which has stopped filling with water. One thing though, as you've sped up some sections, I've had to slow it down to 50% playback. Now you are giving advice sounding like you've had a few too many drinks. Actually, it makes for a pretty funny repair video. 😂

OK, so I replaced my water valve and dishwasher still not filling. Thoughts on other potential causes? I know water is coming to the valve because I have that same leak you saw (need to fix that). Maybe the line that goes into the dishwasher is clogged? Potentially the float switch? Thanks for such a thorough video!

Thanks for a great video! I watched it twice. First to see if it seems to give me the information I need (it did). So I proceeded with the repair effort, which so far has failed. Second, I watched it again and went back for another try. I’m still not succcessful, but I’ve not given up! I have a friendly suggestion for your consideration. It would be helpful, especially given the effort you put into your production, if you cleared out all you under-cabinet products before you film. They got in the way of seeing clearly what you were doing. 😉

With mine, After talking to my youngest ( the Geek guy) I listened and thought I heard the click on valve, so I assumed it was trying.. As a "try", I shut water off and undid the water inlet feed then I used the bristle end of a battery terminal cleaner- gently scrubbing inside the valve. Son said Newer dishwashers have a check valve in the drain valve that sends a signal allowing the fill valve to engage. Mine does not have that feature but He did have me run 3 coffee jugs of vvery hot water and forcing the drain cycle each time. This he said would clean out any grease ect that could be impeding operation. Put it back together and Mine ran like new and had much better sound during drain cycle. I cleaned the screen filter while I had it off checking for debris in pump sump area also.. I have run 4 cycles.:)))

This really isn't a very difficult thing to do. No one should feel apprehensive about doing it. The instructions in this video are very straightforward. I thought I had to replace the same part awhile ago, turned out that this wasn't my problem, the drain line for my R/O was at the wrong angle and water was filling the tub in my washer. My only difference is either I have fat hands or my washer sits lower,. I had to pull mine out and lay it on its side, on a blanket, to have easy access. I could get the old one off, but putting the new one one was a pain. I came across this video because now my dishwasher is not filling, lol. I was watching it to see if there was something he did differently than what I did. Other than having to pull mine out, it's exactly the same.

Hi from sunny Singapore here! thanks for the detailed video despite the toughness of having the process filmed! a quick qns, did your dishwasher still fill up a little? my indesit countertop dishwasher would sound like it was filling up with water running noise but after a while, probably about 500ml of water would get pumped out and it would beep like some 6 over times to signal an error. I wonder what would be your thoughts about that. Would it be a problem with the solenoid inlet valve or (I read somewhere) is it because water doesnt get pumped out enough so because it detects there is water in the dishwasher still, it wont fill it up with water? I'm at a loss now..many thanks in advance for any thoughts from you at all. :)

Previously my dishwasher used to drain some water in the initial few seconds at the start of the cycle, and then it would go through the usual cycle of washing the dishes. Now, it does not drain any water in the initial few seconds but I only hear a humming noise, but afterwards the dishwasher runs the usual cycle of washing the dishes so I know the water inlet valve and the float switch are working fine according to my analysis. There is no water left standing at the bottom of the dishwasher when the cycle is complete so I know that the drain pump is working fine. So what could be the problem that in the initial few seconds I simply hear the humming noise but no water gets drained. Please let me know. Thank you. Samir

I am 99% sure you do not use Teflon tape when using a plumbing part that has a washer or o ring.. For instance when we connect our garden hose to our spigot we don't put Teflon tape on the mail threads then connect the garden hose

@@designbypeck198 Yes. The clog was right at the water inlet valve. Cleaned it out with a screw driver. It has some hard material in there like plastic. No idea where it came from. I only figured it out after I installed a new water inlet valve and that didn't help. So I had to take everything back apart.
