Disney does NOT care about your DAS Pass need or your Disability

I have realized for me it is easier to pay Disney financially for having a disability, to avoid the emotional abuse of the DAS system process...
As many of you are now aware, Disney has now taken in the steps of Universal Orlando in the way they are handling disability accommodations.
Disney now classifies the DAS Pass as developmental disorders... so this would imply any guest or cast member for that matter who wishes to ride a ride, via the DAS system who has other than a developmental disorder, but still a disability under the ADA would most likely not qualify for the DAS Pass.
There are many disabilities out there that hinder a persons ability to wait in line.... disorders that relate to bathroom usage for example, where a person cannot possibly wait hours on a line. It would also be impossible in many line queues to get the attention of a cast member or walk back wards through the bumper to bumper traffic of people in order to exit the line....

After seeing a mom claiming to have DAS throw a tantrum outside the Elsa Anna Meet and Greet at Epcot because there was no lighting lane for her and her 4 kids I was hoping for this change, having/claiming DAS doesn’t give you the right to abuse the Cast Members

Cast members can also be bias against disabled folks. Because you can’t see a disability doesn’t mean they are cheating. I have also heard other disabled people making judgements about people with invisible disabilities. People are selfish and arrogant. Disney has always been a place to feel good and forget your problems for a little while. But the new modern Disney wants to include everyone but those with invisible disabilities!

Well then this is why Disney should include an official doctors note or some kind of medical documentation to prove the invisible disability is actually real -not sure if they're going to go that route but rumors a Medical company hired by Disney will be available to step in on this subject in the future. The issue is past the documentation element.... now Disney, the site states developmental disabilities... if that is true, then people with diabetes, effects from cancer treatments, etc, would not qualify... there are two live streamers with disney content that have to time their bathroom usage,... they would no longer qualify if this is true,... there was a content creator who often went to disney, with intestinal related disorders, they passed away from their disability...but it was also not a developmental disability...

I have accommodations in school (I am getting a masters degree), I often need to use a wheelchair, and I have a cardiac alert dog that keeps me safe. I also have a permanent IV line that goes directly into my heart which I administer medication through. I often need to administer these medications in the time it would take to wait in line. I also often have medical episodes where I need to leave the line WITH my partner so he can assist me. Disney sent me a generic response saying all they could do is have me leave the line and rejoin my party later. That doesn’t work if 1. i need to leave the line for 2-3 hours and 2. I need my partner who I travel alone with to assist me when I leave the line. Disney has ONLY responded with pre-written emails. Disney is absolutely discriminating against disabled people. For the record, I LOOK “fine” I appear to be 100% healthy but I am FAR from it. Also, the word handicap is rude and ableist. Don’t use it. Sincerely, an actual disabled person.

I just got back from a five-day trip to Disney. My wife is visually impaired. I just earned a doctorate in disability studies. I'm not sure how "people are abusing the system" is a reason to completely revise a system instead of reforming it. We ARE talking about people who are disabled. Disney could follow the steps of any number of theme parks, like Universal, that use a broader acceptance of disabilities and require a diagnosis. By charging people who are disabled for Genie+, as Disney required with family, Disney is effectively charging people for their disability needs. Is this discrimination? My wife and I were regularly insulted by employees who had no idea what kind of accommodations my wife needed. We received TWO accommodations in five days and four parks despite Disney advertising descriptive audio on many rides. We complained many times; it didn't help. If you have experience with this system, please add your experience. The new system would mean disabled veterans and children who cannot deal with certain queueing conditions would be required to buy Genie+. Does this sound right to you?

So I have several thoughts: 1. No one can ask for your specific diagnosis, what disease you have, etc. even a physician is only required to state that you have a disability and it requires [insert specific here] accommodation. 2. You repeated the same couple of things countless times without providing any context. For this video to be anything other than vague complaining and for it to hold any weight context is necessary. -what is das pass -what is the process of getting on a ride for das pass -what does das pass allow you to do that is different from how it works without das pass -what disability do you have and what accommodations do you require that were not provided for while at Disney -if you got the das pass at the park, what was the issue other than someone making a mistake? 3. I understand your frustration but if you’re going to post a video in an attempt to create a solution or bring light to an issue, you can’t just say “I would rather pay for genie plus”, “universal is facing backlash and there is a lawsuit” and “I called and got disconnected several times” over and over in a video.

DAS stands for "Disability Access Service" if I remember correctly. It allows an individual to request a ride time from a cast member so they do not have to wait in the stand-by queue. It works like the virtual queue system. You request "Rise of the Resistance" at a guest services kiosk and Disney will assign a return time to you to enter through the lightning lane (previously fastpass) or ride exit. You are essentially waiting, but without being in the stand-by line. Your ride time is assigned to your DAS pass in the app so you receive a notification that it is your turn to ride. Without DAS, you can pay for Genie+ and essentially do the same thing without having to talk to a cast member. Please keep in mind that DAS passes are not required by theme parks to be ADA compliant. They are an additional benefit to help guests with all kinds of disabilities experience a favorite attraction. It is not a violation for a company to ask you what your condition is that would inhibit you from waiting in a stand-by queue. You may choose not to answer, but they are not obligated to give you a DAS pass for not providing information. It IS a violation for a company to contact your insurance company or your physician without your consent to obtain information and for your physician or insurance company to provide that information without your consent.

@@idaUnchained okay Bob Iger became the CEO in 2005 now about 2008 my annual pass was almost up I had to make a decision I had already been yelled at by a cast member for something stupid I was just barely asking what happened to something so the second time a cast member put me a standby line what I had spent my money and I actually had an epileptic seizure on the freaking Haunted Mansion true Faith that's funny this certain CEO has to go I don't feel bad for him he has let things decline at the Walt Disney Company so much so they're messing up left and right oh yes and I do have disabilities on my left side you can actually see them I was born with them so to have a third party vendor is illegal

Nothing to do with Iger. It's all the people who ABUSED the system. there are more people who abused receiving a DAS pass in the past three years - the number has TRIPLED . Think about that number.

The new third party system is going to be great. The third party will require proof of disability or any other problems with a doctor's note. This will finally eliminate all the scammers getting the DAS and ruining it and making sure the people who actually need the DAS get it. So when you need to get a DAS just get paperwork from your doctor or physician when you get the DAS.

@@m42679 The new system requires none of that. My wife is visually impaired, got a recent diagnosis (for a condition she's had her entire life), and was denied the DAS pass. The DAS interviewer did not ask for any paperwork. I agree that paperwork would go a long way toward reducing the abuse of this system.

Dude, you don’t need the pass. Get over it! Buy Genie plus like everyone else who doesn’t want to wait in line, don’t use “anxiety” as an excuse. It’s very simple, and frankly it’s people like you abusing the system that has led to the need for this change. You say that cast members online will be “playing doctor” to refuse people, meanwhile you want them to play doctor in the park so long as they verify you as disabled. It’s nonsense.

@@idaUnchained BINGO! if you aren't able to get the DAS just buy the genie.... But the people who try and abuse the DAS don't want to buy the genie because the DAS is free. It's really just that simple get the genie. Blame the people who try and beat the system not Disney.

Disney is not about just money. As a legitimately disabled person and three time cancer survivor Disney is one of the only places I have ever visited that accommodates disabled people to the maximum. you're making these statements because you are nervous you will have to buy Genie plus in the future and not get a handout you don't truly need.

Invisible disabilities exist. There are veterans for example that have disabilities. There are many who have things that the eye cannot always see. We should not judge someone by what we think a disability looks like...

Lmao theme parks can do whatever they want as long as they have elevators for every staircase that is being ada compliant...i go to universal all the time have multiple disabilities guess what got approved and got my pass BUT you have to have an reasonable disability you eont get approved for ibs/anxiety anything like that not saying it isnt a disability but the pass was created for mostly people in wheelchairs or severly impaired people physically or mentally
At Disney our DAS PASS needs may not exist anymore
