Disney Genie+ ENDING! Lightning Lane Changes Explained

Walt Disney World and Disneyland are making changes to Lightning Lanes. Beginning July 24, Disney Genie+ will be called Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and Individual Lightning Lanes will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass.
🎢 The biggest changes are coming to Walt Disney World. Guests will be able to pre-book Lightning Lanes up to 7 days in advance if they’re staying at a Disney Resort or other participating hotel. Other guests may book up to 3 days in advance. You will be able to select up to 3 attractions per day. Once you’re scanned into the park and use a Lightning Lane, you may book another. Guests can also pre-book up to 2 Lightning Lane Single Passes per day.
⚡️ Lightning Lanes will also have tiers. Similar to FastPass+ in the past, guests can book Tier 1 attractions at Magic Kingdom like Peter Pan’s Flight, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and Space Mountain. You’ll only be able to pre-book one of the experiences in that list. Others, like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, are Tier 2 attractions, and you can pre-book two from that list. However, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON are Lightning Lane Single Passes and must be purchased separately. All parks will have Tier 1 and Tier 2 attractions.

I appreciate them streamlining the names as trying to explain Genie/Genie+/ILL could be confusing. But…I hate how DLR doesn’t get the same treatment as WDW. I know most of their money comes from local visits but there are still a lot of people traveling to DLR, and I’m one of them. I’d love to be able to book in advance.

Thanks! Super helpful. I like the name change - this terminology is easier. confusing for Disney World - it will be best to book LL at end of your window of time because your beginning window will be booked by other guests at the end of their window. People can change hotels just to get a new booking window on the same trip. People can book a long 14 day trip to get the best LL toward end of 14 days and then narrow length of trip later. You could overlap that with a few hotel changes using both strategies and get a lot of park opening LL bookings locked in for a short trip. People will do that.

Walt Disney World changed some months ago so guests may incur a $50 fee for changes made within 30 days of their vacation. So this may deter that from happening

@@DavidVaughn Makes sense - and I also realized that I totally misunderstood the policy because you can book 3 passes for each day so people don't need to book multiple hotels! So overall this seems like a nice way to remove some stress by having 3 LL booked for every day of the trip before you get there. I like it!

Still no perks to staying on property at DLR. We always stay on property but if the only benefit is early entry then we may need to stay elsewhere in Anaheim.

The Pixar Place entrance into DCA is super cool. Especially for popping back into the hotel if needed midday. You also get preferred dining reservations. Just some things to consider as you compare to other hotels

Just like now, prices vary depending on the day that you book. You likely won’t know the price until it’s time to purchase. Prices are displayed on the app when you go to purchase

wait so for disneyland are we not getting this new system? or are we just not allowed to make reservations for rides in advanced? like are we still going to have the multi pass and single but just not have the ability to book before we scan in?

Yes exactly. It’s all staying the same at Disneyland, just a new name. You also can only still book one Lightning Lane at a time
