The reason for the door at the top of the room staying open would be because it latches open once its been opened. Otherwise there would be no way for anyone to keep the button pressed, and make it out of the room alive.

Took me a while but I finally saw this movie. Im a little conflicted when the critics said it felt that movie's "attitude towards death" is not radically powerful as in Coco. I think otherwise. Since I lost my father two years ago to phenomena this hit me a lot harder then Coco ever did.
