United Artists was the primary release company for the Disney Studio following Columbia Pictures (late 20s/early 30s, respectively) and preceding RKO. Hence, UA eventually released VTAP when RKO was a) unable to, b) did not, or c) both.

Actually, Snow White did have an RKO logo when originally released. At the beginning, there was an in-credit notice for RKO in the credits. At the end, there was the RKO logo with the text "A WALT DISNEY FEATURE Production" with "IN TECHNICOLOR" below. When Snow White was reissued in 1958, they rephotographed the credits to remove the RKO notice and (correct me if I'm wrong) put the Buena Vista logo at the beginning (possibly silent).

Yes, that is true. I believe it says in the intro that most of Disney`s movies were released by RKO. I guess "Victory Through Air Power" was the only exception.

To answer your question, the BV logo from 4:27-32 is from the DD cartoon "Donald's Diary". It was probably used when the cartoon was re-issued 1966.

I don`t think that Disney has ever released them on video or DVD or shown them on TV. Hopefully some day they will. There are also many Buena Vistas that have never been available.

The BV logo from "Donald Duck Cartoon" has the opening title music to the Donald Duck cartoon "Donald's Diary" (1954).

I believe it has the Walt Disney Pictures logo on it. The previous video release had the Buena Vista. To the best of my knowledge, the RKO has never been released on video or DVD in the US.

*sigh*... How I will miss the good old Buena Vista... You know, until 2007 Buena Vista International placed its logo at the end of every Disney film or TV series, including those of Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, etc (Die Hard 3 and a few other even have a rare BVI opening logo!!!). This kind of signified that this is a Disney film... Now Disney-ABC Television doesn't place a logo at the end, so it's not the same. :(

@8to16to35 2009 SNow Wite DVD have the RKO openings. But mind you many Shorts pre 1956 still dont have got there original titles back and many WDT shorts are reissue/recreation prints.

Actually, I think that the WD Gold Classic Edition of "Saludos Amigos" has the original RKO logo.

I got it from a friend. It is a recording from a 16mm print.

On second thought, I change my mind. I don't think the BV logo for "Melody Time" is real, but I do think the BV logo for "Bambi" is real because it was probably used when the film was re-issued in 1966.

Pinocchio's RKO logo is intact on the 2003 DVD, which was released overseas but not in the USA. I think the upcoming Platinum Edition DVD may keep it as well, but we'll have to wait and see.

@livinlarge18 You must have "The Rescuers" DVD. "Water Birds" was re-released by Buena Vista after 1953.

RKO didn't want to release it, so Walt put the film through UA instead. It was mentioned all on a WWII-themed WDT DVD, hosted by Leonard Maltin.

I found out last year that Snow White has the RKO logo at the end of the film.

It would have been cool if The Little Mermaid was the very last Disney film to have the Buena Vista Distribution logo, but The Fox and the Hound was.

I got the "Chronological DOnald Vol. 4" for Christmas and on some of thr CinemaScope shorts, I saw an RKO logo at the beginning to fit in with the opening credits. Also, the fanfare for "The Litterbug" is not there. The BV logo is silent.

Why is it impossible? I checked it out and it had the Buena Vista. It was released the same time the DVD first came out, so it makes sense that they would both be the same.

I think RKO was not wanting to lose Disney. I understand that they rereleased some of the True-Life Adventures later on while still under contract with Disney.

I don't think the BV logos for "Bambi", "Melody Time", and "Peter Pan" are real.

It must be from a foreign release after 1953. Disney must have changed the RKO to the Buena Vista even for rereleases overseas.

@greenth1ng i doubt, my friend had the peter pan 1998 release that has BV logo but the one i had was the release of 2007 on dvd does have the radio rko logo b4 the opening credits.

Re-upload this video, this time with the Pinocchio RKO logo (which is on the PE DVD). Also, see if the Bambi and Cinderella DVDs also have the RKO logos on their PE DVDs (I think they do, but I'm not sure).

The RKO that was used for Melody 1953 was the same one they used in Fantasia. Plus the RKO to Cinderella was on the 1995 laser disc.

I think "Grand Canyon" has no music because the 'Grand Canyon Suite' played throughout the film. Since a music piece played throughout the film, the music started over the creadits, but not the BV logo.

Well, not on the movie itself, it didn't. One of the bonuses on the Snow White DVD shows the original RKO logos, though.

Disney is inconsistent. Since the DVD for "20,000 Leagues" has the music for the BV of "Grand Canyonscope", it must be accurate. The DVD of Chronological Donald Vol. 4 is missing the music; therefore it must be inaccurate. It is easier to remove the music (for whatever reason) than to add music that was never there. There have been other instances in which the music is missing on the DVD. For example, "Rascal." I got the music from a 16mm film; otherwise who would know if it had music?

My 1993 Pinocchio VHS has the BV logo in the beginning, must been the rerelease. My bro has the Blu-Ray/DVD combo version, I gotta check if it has an RKO or the BV logo.

The BV for "Melody Time" is real. I got it off The Disney Channel. For the other two, I used the music that Disney provided and edited the BV logo onto them; because I know that they did have the BV for their rereleases. I also did that for some of the educational videos; such as "A Country Coyote Goes Hollywood," "Hang Your Hat on the Wind" and a few others.

How can "Saludos Amigos" have a Buena Vista logo? It was released in 1942 and again in 1949. How can it have a BV logo if both times it was distributed by RKO?

You should redo this little video over again, with the RKO logos for Snow White (from the 2009 DVD), Pinocchio (from the 2009 DVD), Bambi (from the laserdisc version) and Cinderella (from the laserdisc version).

Disney released their films not only to theaters, but also to TV channels, video, and so on. When they put it out, say, on TV or for home movie viewers for the first time, they didn't like the RKO logo popping up.
