Before Disneyland opened the Tropical Hideaway, there was Aladdin's Oasis, abandoned for nearly 20 years. But this location has a storied history dating back to Disneyland's opening year in 1955. This is the history of the Adventureland Terrace.

I never saw the Adladdin place. However, I really remember the Tahitian Terrace, and the Royal Young Tahitians. One of my great memories along with the Indian Village and Home of the Future.,

I definitely want to go sit at the Tropical Hideaway when I get a chance to come back to CA. In the 60s and 70s it was my grandfathers favorite place and he would beg to be selected when the dancers came into the audience looking for victims, I mean student dancers. He loved the attention and he was a ham. The food was good, too. I was so sad when I saw the Terrace had been removed.

New video! Huzzah! All my life I was confused by that weird niche in the park, and until today I had no idea of much of the history. I'm really glad that it was brought back to life for Project Stardust. To this day I believe that Tropical Hideaway is one of the best things to happen to Disneyland Park since The Bob showed up.

Love it, Alex! I remember the Tahitian Terrace, which my hubby and I visited often in the 1980s. Never visited when it was Aladdin's - as that was when our rambunctious boy was too young to sit still for a dinner and show ;) Last time we visited, Feb. of 2020, we all ate lunch at the Tropical Hideaway and loved it! I wanted to come back after dark just to hang out, but was outvoted by family wanting to do more rides- LOL

I took my wife here as a quiet break from Disneyland in the evening. It was my backup option for the Dole whip treats since the counter at the Tiki Room closed for the day. For some reason, I always remember it being there. I remember seeing Aladdin stuff too next to Jungle Cruise. But, I remember going there with my parents years and years ago which is how I knew to take my wife there. That should be impossible since it was opened in 2018 as this video explains. I have memories that shouldn't exist. Mandela effect? 🤨 I don't know. I dreamed the entirety of Jurassic Park ride when I was a kid without ever once riding it or seeing the full experience because I was scared of log rides and drops. When I finally did ride it I was like no way. (Probably my brain/dream referencing commercials or relative's descriptions, but the dream was 1:1).

Beautiful place. I hope it stays there for a long time. There are only a handful of locations in Disneyland you can escape the crowds of people to have a quiet thought and take in Disneyland, sounds and all.

I love the videos as always, just wanted to point out one little tidbit. During the Indiana Jones Summer of Hidden Mysteries promotion in 2008, there was a short lived stage show inside called “Secret of the Stone Tiger”.

If you listen to the tiki room song, the tropical hideaway is included in one of the bird songs and likely how the tropical hideaway restaurant got its name. I never liked the Aladdin restaurant in that area because it didn't fit in to the Adventureland theme.

You missed the shows from the 2000's. An Aladdin Show with a funny narrator, Aladdin and a Jasmine that would hick-up every time Jarfar was mentioned. This was followed with a Indiana Jones show. Link below. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9x-q8JezN3cm2Q.html

@AlextheHistorian

Its a good video about the history of the space. I once posted this video in 2019, the title was "The History of the Tropical Hideaway" and the thumbnail showed the Hideaway and the Tahitian Terrace. A perfectly good video...and no one watched it, because no one really gave a crap about the history of this area. So I removed it, re-narrated it (I didn't alter the original script either, it's the same narration) but I gave it this click bait title and click bait thumbnail. And now 5 times as many people know the history of the Tropical Hideaway. Click bait works. That being said, this isn't the true definition of click bait. For a period of 20 years, this area did not have a set use. It was used OCCASIONALLY and at random, as a auxiliary venue. But nothing permanent. Between its uses, it would go months or even almost a whole year completely unused. But if you clicked on the video hoping for me to explain how it rotted away and the facility decayed, well then no, it didn't, Disney kept it in good shape. That doesn't mean it wasn't effectively abandoned as a permanent attraction.

@@AlextheHistorian It sounds like Disney used this space in Disneyland in a manner similar to how they use Odyssey at Epcot since it closed as a fulltime restaurant in 1994. The last time I was inside the Odyssey, not counting the restrooms which are accessed via the outside of the building, was in 1993. Every time I have visited Epcot since it has been closed to the public. The only parts of the Odyssey that have been continuously open to the public since 1994 are the restrooms, first aid center, and baby care center which are all accessed via the outside of the building.
