A lot of those incomplete 2000s Disney cartoons had a bunch of compilation DVDs. Phineas & Ferb had the most released episodes out of any other incomplete 2000s show. 77/222 episodes of Phineas & Ferb+Movie are released across 10 DVDs. This also includes an international “Best Lazy Day Ever” DVD, and the Bonus disc to “A Very Perry Christmas”.

Technically I agree with you. Disney should release more complete sets of their shows. Physical media is basically better because you can get your hands on it. Streaming though you can't get your hands on it. Plus they may take the shows off certain streaming services. Disney just doesn't care about what people think of physical media.

I know as of now that with this Disney+ Era, all movies that aren't theatrical releases don't see the light of day on physical media. The best solution to this is buying unofficial copies, such as (pinocchio, disenchanted, lady and the tramp, Ivan the one and only, Togo, hocus pocus 2 and so many more). I own every one of these. Let me tell you they look as official as official can get. This is the next best outcome to physical releases if you want to continue the Disney Blu-ray movie collection as much as I do.

The weird thing is that Disney is apparently OK with licensing stuff out...just not releasing it themselves? Most 90s Marvel shows got complete releases in the UK in the 2000s...Ninja Storm-Operation Overdrive got complete boxsets (based on the individual releases and with additional discs to wrap up the seasons, so MF episodes were out of order, but still). Jungle Fury made it out on 5 volumes, but not as a boxset. Lilo & Stitch: The Series has AT LEAST 8 DVD volumes of 4-5 episodes each released here in BULGARIA of all places...we're an INCREDIBLY small market and it's not like the show was crazy popluar or anything (I mean, it aired on TV...I believe twice, years ago, during our Disney block and that's about it)... The obvious reason behind not pushing physical releases NOW would obviously be Disney+. They (probably rightfully) deem there's more money to be made there than on home video.

I wonder why Buena Vista Home Entertainment was more biased towards giving ABC shows (Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Once and Again, Sports Night, etc) big boxsets up to 6 discs as early as 2002 but Disney shows can't get similar treatment.

I actually heard a long time ago from one of the artists form Tron Uprising, Eric Lloyd Brown, basically saying "Yeah the show was in a death slot at like 3 am, but it cost so much that even if it aired in a prime time slot it would have to be the number one show in America to not be cancelled. It was a vanity project for Disney and nothing else". I'm not really sure it's a case of a Network hating something they spent money on and supervised during production unless there was a producer change at the network, and then that new producer is suddenly looking at this show they had nothing to do with, I think that's what happened with Rise of the TMNT. So maybe that happened, but they way Eric talked about it it always seemed doomed to die eventually. I also wonder if Tangled got that release because of the Mandy Moore connection. But still, great video! I've always wondered about the Gargoyles release, and no I don't think you were harsh at all, you were very fair to him.
@Soundout12
@Soundout12 Жыл бұрын
That definitely makes sense. Uprising did look like quite the expensive show. Including looking more higher budget that Star Wars Resistance by the same animation studio. I’m sure the underperformance of Legacy also didn’t help the cost/viewership ratio. At least the show’s on Disney+ Good theory on Tangled.

Great video man. I'm not sure if Chapek was responsible for Blu-rays having less content on them, because I was starting to notice the pull back on the bonus content on Blu-rays as early as 2017-2018 when Chapek was still in charge of the Parks division, and the Walt Disney Signature Collection line was still in full swing. But I can totally see him being responsible for incomplete series releases on DVD in the 2000s. Even the live action Disney Channel shows like Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place didn't have complete DVD releases but their DVDs were coming out during the time those shows were airing.

Disney can definitely do better in regards to releasing their shows and movies on disc. I'm personally not into the idea of releasing Disney+ shows on Disney Movie Club, especially since I feel that stuff like the Star Wars and Marvel shows could easily be given a wide release and get good sales. I also think that they should think about giving more of the movie club exclusives wider releases, an example could be the 1998 Parent Trap Movie, it personally bothers me that the only way you can get a proper Blu-ray/HD version of it is either buying a digital copy, watching it on TV, streaming it through Disney+, or either subscribing to Disney Movie Club and buying it from there or getting it from a third-party seller.

What gets me with reluctance to buy certain DVD/Blu-ray sets is when the effort is not put in. Seeing "volume" in a release title fills me with apathy knowing the episode count is paltry. It's tantamount to the cheap selections at Target and Walmart, when I'm looking for as complete a release as possible. Why would I, a fan, buy any of the single Spider-Man volumes with random episode counts versus a comprehensive Complete Series set? Looking at your Gargoyles release and how starkly different the packaging design is with the latest one, why should I feel compelled to buy it when they seemingly didn't put in the effort? Going over to Warner Bros., which is likely deserving of its own video for better or worse, we have examples like Infinity Train, a series created in the HD era, 2019, only released in Standard Definition DVD. They're asking diehard fans, the ones that would be buying this, to accept a substandard product. Then, surprise, maybe they don't sell well, combined with the series still ongoing, with people wanting to wait for a proper complete Blu-ray set. Series is cancelled, and the DVDs briefly go out of stock when the new Discovery CEO goes on a spree of shutting down shows and taking away content. Sometimes their releases are just flat out lies. The recent Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy "Complete Series" DVD set is missing the holiday specials and finale movie. But the crazy thing is, most of the DVDs in that set are still brand new. They didn't throw previous releases in a big box and called it a day, they produced new disc images, but still left it incomplete.

I’m so glad that most companies have moved away from volume releases cause they just suck. And yes, the lack of cohesion on the Gargoyles packaging has always bugged me I really wish Warner Archive didn’t get gutted by At&t as they were always the safety net to get things properly released where WBHE failed

It never ceases to amaze me that a megacorporation with one of the largest media libraries in the world has such a hard time releasing its content in non-digital forms. I ended up getting a fan-made Blu-ray of Tron: Uprising, and I suspect I'll have to do the same for season 7 of The Clone Wars. What are some Disney series that you want to see physical releases of, that are yet to have even one? Top pick for me would be Lilo & Stitch, absolutely loved that show as a kid.

Whew! So many thoughts. I too am frustrated by the Beuna Vista Release strategy for 90’s Spider-Man. But at least those five DVD’s had really fun menus and special features. I’m sure if a complete series set was released today it’d be as bare bones as the X-Men season set releases. That said, The X-Men animated series DVD (Legend of Wolverine) that came out alongside the release of X2 in theaters was fantastic! There were retrospectives with Chris Claremont and Stan Lee. It was wonderful! And they gave Fantastic Four: TAS the same treatment. I was collecting Gargoyles & Boy Meets World on DVD at the same time. Both shows I started collecting from Suncoast and then after Gargoyles Season 2.1 and BMW season 3, both shows took a 10 year hiatus. But as you said, at least they eventually started putting out DVD’s again and BMW actually got completed. Well before Girl Meets World was ever a thing. I’m also frustrated that X-Men: Evolution never got a fourth season release. At this point, it’s Disney’s fault. But I never understood why WB chose to never complete the show either. Thanks for the video, Soundout!

Great video! I've always held off on collecting Darkwing or Gargoyles for this reason, I'm even worried that recent shows like Amphibia and Star vs. The Forces of Evil won't get any home release at all. I wish Discover/Warner/Cartoon Network would get it together too (finish Infinity Trail, a Gumball complete set), although I know the new owners don't seem to care too much about the animation side.
