We've have literally every character you could imagine as meet and greet opportunities, but yet the original Disney villain is absent. Its time to find the missing costume character: Pete!

It’s so weird that Pete is as OG as Mickey, and he’s barely had a presence as a costume character. He’s included in set dressing all over, so maybe he’ll come into the parks as a character one day.

i want you to put on a costume thats 8x your size and move comfortably in it. PLEASE. especially in florida, or anywhere in texas in the summer time. sure your getting paid. sure its a job, but is it worth cooking your body from the inside? fuck no. and i hope anybody that gets those jobs moves on quickly. just because its disney doesnt mean its good. i bet the county in whatever district disney is located in has better benefits and insurance than employees at disney land. and you barely make enough to live working in any county. (not COUNTRY. COUNTY)

As someone who was 'friends' with taller/bigger characters back in the day I can assure you there are some horrifying failed Pete costumes in storage or a dump somewhere. When I worked there they had done two different Mock-up Pete costumes and both never were seen by the public and only exist as costume fitting photos. One had a cigar molded to the head, which was deemed too 'offensive' and the other was just all sorts of werid proportions trying to mix menacing with approachable. Another issue was the overall just weight of the costume and the lack of mobility when trying to interact compared to the rest of the toon gang. Hopefully the new costume technology we have today will make a Pete more accessible if they attempt the costume again.

You know, it is rather strange that there isn't a Pete walk around at the Disney Parks and yet you have so many iconic Disney villains. You would think that a villain who is just as well known as the mascot of the company who happens to be his arch nemesis, its odd that while he has a bit if the presence at the parks there is no meet & greet for the guy. He's as important as Mickey & the gang. So what gives? What's next, having Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios yet there's no Bowser walk around?

@@smeltedfist4917 i guess that's true. But then again, when are mascots accurate to the characters they are based on in comparison? In terms of size of course. I mean, Mickey walk-around is nearly the same size as Goofy, yet he as well as Donald are almost half his size in the cartoons. I don't know, I'm no costume designer myself so what am I saying? x'D But seriously, how big can Bowser get in every iteration in comparison to Mario? Not counting the times he uses magic, possibly from Kamek the magikoopa, to become even bigger.

Also in Pete’s on-camera cameo (11:07), I did both the costume performance AND his voice. Plus, he couldn’t have said it any better. Also if you ever want to do a video collab that relates to bootleg mascots, then I’d definitely be on board for it. Oh yeah I remember him. That’s that tall mouse with the hat… I only remember him cause of the Mickey Mouse clubhouse episode that he was a bad guy and he kept on saying “ hat cha cha!” And he had that orange suit and orange blimp and he shrunk Mickey and put him into a ball thing… I watch too many cartoons. 😅

I think Pete would be great in the parks. He'd be great presenting shows while insulting all the characters, only for Mickey to come on and get him off to actually present the show, and other stuff like that.

That's actually a really good point. I think that would be a great fit for him. Don't even worry about trying to figure out how he can move around, just make him stationary, kind of like how Mr. Potato Head. Pete might actually work best as some really cool, animatronic that you can interact with and talk to. That would be pretty fun and you wouldn't have to worry about his size or mobility being a problem for cast members.

I have this theory. Since Pete is the OG Disney villain, Disney wants to keep this mystique around him that makes him seem genuinely evil. Cruella Deville and the Queen from Snow White will bite their lip and sign autographs. But not Pete. He is a genuinely pure evil character who passionately hates children and can not and SHOULD not be trusted around them. That's what I like to think anyway.

@@WC6 That's what I love about the Paris and Tokyo. Both Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort loves giving love to Disney's lesser-known and obscure Disney Characters. Something I wish the U.S. Disney Parks (mainly WDW) would take cues from. At least Disneyland is slowly taking the Paris and Tokyo approach recently where the introduction of Toulouse and Berlioz from The Aristocats beginning in mid-November 2019. Tokyo even has a statue for Danny the Lamb from the 1947 live-action film "So Dear To My Heart" at Westernland.

Yeah, it's not exactly intuitive if you don't know, is it? They should give him some whiskers and sharp teeth, at least. The lack of tail is excusable since some cats don't have tails. Mickey isn't super rodenty looking, but you can still tell he's a mouse right away.

The first time we went to WDW my son was three and the character he most wanted to see was Pete. We tried explaining that Pete might not be there but he was determined. We decided to take a pic with the sign at Pete's silly sideshow but it's not the same as a character. Maybe one day! Thanks for another great video!!

I used to be a character performer at Disney World, and I did ask why there was no Pete costume/character, and I was told that it does exist, but he scared kids so badly that they never bring him out.

You really need to watch Treasure Planet and Atlantis because they are gorgeous ❤ We most definitely need more Pete representation in the parks, especially with his huge role in Kingdom Hearts. He's just such a fun villain!

Okay, I had no idea Pete was a cat. I guess he's as much a cat as Goofy is a dog. I will say, Pete has made appearances in so many Disney shows. He's been a foil to pretty much every classic Disney character. It's crazy that he doesn't have a costume in the parks.

Seriously, this has always bugged me. Pete's literally the oldest reoccurring Disney characters, and one of my favorites of the villains with Judge Doom as an extremely close second. The fact that they made characters like Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow twice but never made a full-on Pete meet and greet despite the aspects of tenure and being a fan favorite baddie has confounded me, especially since Disney Parks always love to do special meet and greet looks and Pete being the most flexible out of the villains in terms of that.

I'm surprised there was no Oswald mention, after all, Pete did appear in the Oswald shorts. Even appearing in the early Universal era shorts (1928 to early 1930s). btw I would love to see a costume evolution on Oswald as I've been wondering if there was ever a costume of Oswald during his time at Universal. I know he appeared in some wall murals during his blue and yellow phase (2004 - until Disney got the rights back) in the park(s).

Even if Pete is considered obscure, theres been plenty of other obscure characters who pop up from time to time in the parks. Pete's absence is indeed really strange

Exactly, Horace is definitely one example of a character who isn't seen as much in media but has a better presence in the parks than Pete. He's currently in Stitch’s Interplanetary Beach Party Blast at Disneyland with Clarabelle (who also doesn't make a lot of appearances in media either and yet she's getting another new costume as one of the Sanderson sisters!)

He's really not obscure at all if you think about it... he's the go to antagonist for anything in Mickey's universe, so you'd figure he'd be there with the other characters

@@DeltaFRFX They definitely neutered his evilness in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, to the point that he went from being a mild nuisance/prankster to being a jolly guy who was just another friend in the gang. Maybe little kids would get confused if they saw him playing a meaner role at Disney parks? But I don't really think that's an excuse not to have him there, he is supposed to be Mickey's arch-nemesis in general.

Huh that's odd Pete is a big part of the cartoons. He's in a ton of the classic cartoons, the Goofy movies, Goof Troop, Mickey Mouse clubhouse and funhouse, the Roadster Racers, (I have a 4 year old lol) he's in all the shows, and he hasn't been a real BAD GUY in the cartoons since before I was born. He's just not nice and used for teaching not to cheat and stuff. I wonder why they don't use him in the parks. They could make a Black version of the Lotso costume put it in a shirt and some overalls, all they have to do is make a new head. or a recolored Wreck it Ralph, with the new head.

Spent a week of training becoming "friends with the characters" and just wanted to say that Brer Bear's head is huge, heavy, and very unwieldy. Imagine, if you will, a cylinder around your head balancing a rock the shape of Goofy's head on top, and that is how I would make a Brer Bear costume since none exist (wink). Not much going on up there. But my biggest regret was not spending more time with my favorite character Baloo. That being said I would love to see an evolution of Baloo in the parks!

I didn't realize Pete was supposed to have a peg leg My memories of him are mostly from the Goofy movies and Goof Troop etc, that whole world, where I don't think he had a peg leg Actually it would be kind of neat if he just had a better false leg and you just couldn't tell That said, it took me years to realize that he was a cat so maybe I just don't know his character that well

I've been thinking about this subject for a long time. Actually, a really long time. I remember when the costumes for Mickey's 90th birthday came out and everyone (well mostly) had an outfit. First, it got me to thinking why they don't include more of Mickey's pals in the lineup, like Daisy or Clarabel or Horace. But then I thought about another character who's really prevalent in Mickey's cartoons but I couldn't remember having a presence in the parks. Of course, that character is Pete. I hope that someday he gets his due. Heck, if they can have Oswald, Ortensia, Clara Cluck, Clarice, and other random characters from Mickey's universe that people aren't generally going to remember - surely they can have Mickey's villain: Pete... also they might as well throw Mortimer in there while they're at it.

I think the best way to bring him and introduce him to the parks is have him debut as a host for the Villains Mix and Mingle, you know playing on being Mickey’s nemesis.

I believe that’s Jim Hawkins from treasure plant but the color wave is definitely giving me Miles from Atlantis bc Jim had a blue jacket while miles stayed neutral .. && Drizella from Cinderella ..

A cast member at the Sideshow, told me he stays out of the public eye by choice as he can't stand all the happiness. So now that there's a brawl every other day in WDW maybe we'll get to see him 🤔

Because the image of Pete is actually used so much around the parks, I honestly really never thought about the fact that there isn't any Pete costume. Thanks for the great videos Dan.

Great video I've often wondered why Pete never been seen in parks. Lol the random lady at 9:30 was Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet followed by the Brazilian lady from Three Caballeros. Yes very random to have her but still cool they featured her. fun fact she is Carmen Miranda's sister and until she was in that parade I never knew the character was named Yaya.

It never occured to me to look around the parks for Pete. I feel like such a ninny for not doing that. Fantastic video as always. Say, would you be interested in doing an Alice In Wonderland White Rabbit distory? He's another character that not a lot of people take the time to think about.

I think I need a review of that parade in Paris with all the random characters! If that's the only time they are in a parade, it would be great to see the costumes!

Never been to the parks myself but everybody in my family who has has never once mentioned pete tho we would talk about the character from all our old VHS tapes, crazy to think he was excluded vs other villains who probably should have been excluded

Part of the problem is that 90% of costumed cast members are as a former employee of the Mouse the height of "most" of the costumed cast members are around 5 feet tall.

Pete actually had a walkaround for Toontown 2023 reopening and he got a ton of attention presumably as he had brand new costume.

The lack of Pete in the parks would explain why I've never bought a used car during my trips to Disney. That's on them.

I was more inclined to say “Forget Pete, where my Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?” But the point about all the villain-centric events and stuff changed my mind. Not just Pete, but also more villains than just the 90’s renaissance crew (plus Maleficent). 12:05 I literally cried the first time I met jafar. I was terrified of him. I was, approximately, 5 years old.

Oswald is over at the Oswald gas station thing in DCA. I'm pretty sure I just saw him while entering the park like 2 weeks ago. Idk if he does appearances in WDW tho

The first time I saw Pete was when I first picked up the Kingdom Hearts series, it’s sad that I hadn’t heard of him before then as I grew up with OLLLLLLD Disney movies like Fantasia and classics like the original princess movies, considering he’s supposedly a big character in Disney’s and Mickey’s history.

Growing up in Florida and going to WDW every year as a kid, I always just associated him with an idea like big Corp, like Al's toy barn. I mean gluttonous, greedy, cigar smoking.....idk....
