Disney's The Finest Hours is now playing in theaters!
A heroic action-thriller, “The Finest Hours” is the remarkable true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history.Presented in Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D, the film will transport audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale. On February 18, 1952, a massive nor’easter struck New England, pummeling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, which was literally ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly-sinking stern. As the senior officer on board, first assistant engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) soon realizes it is up to him to take charge of the frightened crew and inspire the men to set aside their differences and work together to ride out one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast. Meanwhile, as word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff (Eric Bana) orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Despite overwhelming odds, four men, led by Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine), set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds.
Disney’s “The Finest Hours” is the unforgettable story of the Coast Guard’s courageous mission, which is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars: Chris Pine; Academy Award® and Golden Globe® nominee Casey Affleck; Ben Foster; Holliday Grainger; John Ortiz; and Eric Bana. Produced by Jim Whitaker and Dorothy Aufiero, the screenplay is by Oscar® nominee Scott Silver and Oscar nominees Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson based on the acclaimed non-fiction book of the same name by Michael J. Tougias and Casey Sherman. Doug Merrifield serves as executive producer. “The Finest Hours” storms into U.S. theaters on January 29, 2016 in Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D.

As a former Coast Guardsman I can understand the fear and anxiety they went through. I spent 2 of my 4 years stationed at Fort Pierce rescue station FLA 1976-77. God was truely looking out for them and us.

Thank you so much for your service. Seriously, I can't even begin to tell you enough. you know the common joke about how you guys get shit from the Navy and/or Marines because Coast Guard is not typically combat oriented... well in reality, that is all just a bunch of total bullshit. If anything, it's all just typical military rivalry horseplay. we have a lot of very close friends of the family in the military, both veterans and full-time careers, and they will all say the same thing. In truth, You guys are some of the bravest of the brave and should be respected among the top tier "heroes without capes". No real military personal would ever talk shit on the corpsman or the medic right? Well, if you think about it, your whole branch is kind of like the corpsman's version for the entire coastal seas, going out while everyone else is retreating in the worst of conditions in order to SAVE lives . I live in Southern California, which I know is like a warm walk in the park compared to the rescue missions for the guys stationed in the east coasts and northern coasts, but still... we do have cliffs, caves, and a lot of rocks. And we have personally seen you guys save so many peoples' asses out there. Every time we go out to fish passed the mouth of SD harbor, we know that you guys are out there watching and listening for us with your powerful binoculars and the best technology money can buy, ready to be there in a second's notice, like guardian angels, and it makes us feel happy. Every time we see you guys drive by; we get this certain sense of patriotic feeling deep down inside. The best way to describe it, would be just sheer and utter respect. I always want to stand up in our boat and salute you, but we know that we are civilians and have no rank. Not to mention the policing that you guys also do. A lot of people forget about that. Remember how I said, we are from So Cal? so, I am familiar that you guys also work closely with the feds like DEA, Boarder Patrol, homeland security, etc. Again, I would just love to say thank you so much for your service. To everyone in the Coast Guard: God bless you all. Every EMT, sailor, pilot, and frogman. .... p.s. I just finished rewatching this film, and now I'm in the mood to pop in my DVD of 'The Gaurdian' with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher haha

I saw the movie today and loved it. Some of the critics wanted more plot twists but the problem is this is a true story and the produces stayed faithful to what actually happened. I live on the Massachusetts coast and have enormous respect for the coasties.

The Problem with critics as that. They never pay attention to what is being told. In this case. Four Brave Men put there lives on the line. In a violent storm. Attempted and did the Impossible. Saving the lives of 32 men. Who would've Perished. That is Courage above and beyond.

ScarlettM Actually the story is even more dramatic than the film shows. TWO of these ships broke in half during the storm, the Pendleton and Fort Mercer. They were made quickly during World War II with what is called "dirty" steel and welds instead of bolts. The steel would crack under cold and stress. This was not uncommon during the war. The Coast Guard, despite the storm, sent five cutters and two 36' lifeboats out for the rescue with Bernie Webber and his crew of the MLB 36500 rescuing 32 people from the stern of the Pendleton and the cutter Eastwind and Acushnet rescuing the crew of the Fort Mercer. All of the people on the forward part of the Pendleton died. The MLB 36500 has been restored as a living museum in Cape Cod. As for Bernie Webber he was one of the most outstanding people in the history of the service. He refused the Gold Lifesaving Medal unless his whole crew received it. He went on to service in Vietnam. When the Coast Guard launched a new class of ships the lead ship was named for him.

I knew Chief Webber and was a MK on 44301, the boat that replaced 33500 (the one in this movie). At that time my father was in charge of 44301's repairs and designed her forward splash guards. He also did all the metal work on Chatham's lighthouse. I was in a Coast Guard family and "crossed the bar" like the chief and so many other guardsmen at Chatham before and after me. Chief Webber was a god to us. When you accept "You have to go, you don't have to come back" it changes you. You understand you are there so others may live. We use to joke if we died our mothers would get a nice letter from the government. It was honor to serve. Semper Paratus baby. #Tango103

I just watched it in 3D IMAX, I love every minutes of it. There are moments I have to hold my breath when the rouge waves hits that small boat underneath the wave, I thought they are all going to die..@@ Chris Pine is so awesome. Furthermore, this movie is a true story. A true story about bravery, courage and love. A courage to do the right thing when the time is right. A bravery to take lead when all seems lost, and love, love at the right moments to stand up for your love one. I don't want to spoil the movie but this is a movie is so well put together, which you dare not miss, because if you miss this one you are never going to see another. Be prepared for one last lovely beautiful and thrilling ride ahead of you, that's well worth your time and memories!

In a word....AWESOME trailer! I'm very glad Disney got the rights to the story and film, and very proud of the men and women of the Coast Guard, past and present! Parts of the film were filmed on location in MA, Chatham, Cohasset, Brant Rock, and in the one of the main warehouses at the old General Dynamics Shipyard in Quincy MA. That's were the close-up water scenes were filmed in a giant wave pool they built in ground. Would love to see the premiere of the movie here in MA. Thank you Disney!!

If you liked "The Perfect Storm" you'll love "The Finest Hours." Plain and simple. All through it I kept comparing it to the 2000 classic. Right up to around 90 minutes in I was giving this film an 8.5 out of 10, and the classic a 9.0. After the ending though I had to give "The Finest Hours" a 9.5. since it is hands down the best film ever produced in the maritime disaster genre, and a must see movie no natter what your favorite genre is. Perfect cast, great acting, awesome special effects, and very well-written and directed. Watch it. You won't be disappointed!

@@superjackster0165 The ship's mid section to entire bow, including the bridge, broke off. There was no technology but the engine room left. I guess maybe someone may have a GPS beacon in a modern ship. But, with the entire front of the ship gone, including the mid section where the lifeboats are, even basic technology was gone. The radio equipment is on the bridge also.

@blablabla You are correct. It is a lot less likely to happen today. But it still does happen. But today, it seems the stern sinks quicker than the bow. Sometimes people are rescue from a drifting bow with the stern having sank long before the rescue. During World War II, the ships where thrown together super quickly. The Americans had, "Liberty Ships." Using a new welding method that was not mastered, the women of the nation were given minimal training and sent to build liberty ships that were greatly improvised. Some of the liberty ships did not even have electricity, save on the bridge. But they helped the allied forces win World War II. I think the Americans still have one liberty ship preserved as a museum piece.

I'm from mass and it's funny u say Australian. Lol. When I met people from down south ect they'd ask if I was Australian.i can't believe we sound that weird to people.were not saying" put another shrimp on the Barbie!! That's Australian. The accents weren't incredibly accurate. A movie like " the fighter" very accurate.

I was in the coast guard and went out in 44ft motor life boats off the Pacific coast. I pulled guys from the water, I swam to rescue people in distress. This movie was like what I did for two years. Except we never went under water.
