At a presentation for investors and shareholders (Disney’s Investor Day 2019), the Walt Disney Company has officially detailed their upcoming Disney Plus streaming service which will launch in late 2019 including pricing and global launch date (US, Europe, UK, Australia, Asia, North America)
The three and a half hour panel included presentations from all of Disney’s subsidiary brands and entertainment groups - Disney motion pictures, Disney Animation, Disney Television, Disney Channel, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Star Wars, National Geographic and Fox , dropping plenty of new announcements and information along the way.
Announcements include news on Disney Signature Collection animated titles, Lady and the Tramp, Frozen 2, documentaries, Encore, The Imagineering Story, Forky Asks a Question, Monsters At Work, Bo Peep: Lamp Life, WandaVision (Wanda Vision), Loki, Falcon and Winter Soldier, What If?, Marvel 616, Marvel Hero Project, The Mandalorian, Cassian Andor, Phineas and Ferb, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, Magic of the Animal Kingdom, Noelle, Timmy Failure, Star Girl, Togo, The Simpsons.

Dave, just to clarify, will Family Guy also move to Disney + since Disney owns the show or are there going to cancel it since the show is aimed for an older audience. also what's going on with Hulu and does Disney still own it?

I just really REALLY hope they'll add shows from the 90's like Gargoyles, So Weird, the Aladdin and Little Mermaid cartoon series, just to add more fuel to my nostalgia. This will most likely be the first streaming service I will gladly pay the yearly price for, with all the content it's going to have, and will eventually get. 100% worth that price.

I'm all in for Disney+. The $6.99 USD/month is an amazing deal for what you get in the complete Disney Vault, not to mention the original series from the variety of Disney properties. Aside from the NEW original series, I can't wait for the Disney afternoon animation block.

Eh...not really. Netflix still has a lot of famous original shows and movies so I don't think they'll go out of business. I'm personally still keeping Netflix because most of my favorite shows are originals.

This sounds really exciting for me, but three things I’m concerned about, 1. I’ll have to wait more than 2 years for it to arrive (I did not see my region listed on the slide). 2. The shows I wanted to see available on the service might not be available soon. 3. Not everything will be available everywhere.

Fantastic video! I’m very much looking forward to Disney Plus as well, although I completely agree with you about Physical Media. I will continue to buy new Disney Blu-rays and DVDs even after Disney Plus officially launches! While I personally am really excited about most of the Disney Plus news, I personally was pretty disappointed that we didn’t really hear about if The Disney Afternoon shows or Walt-era content would be on the service. I was really hoping that Disney Plus could offer all of the Disney Afternoon shows that still don’t have every episode released on DVD like Gummi Bears, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, and Goof Troop. And as a massive fan of the Walt Disney Treasures DVD Series, I was really really hoping that every theatrical Disney Short film and every episode of the Walt Disney Anthology Series and the 1950’s Mickey Mouse Club would be included. I’m not sure if they are planning on adding them to the service later or not, since like you mentioned in your video Disney Plus is supposed to expand over the next five years. Would you expect them to add the entire Disney short films and Disney Afternoon and Walt-era TV episodes to Disney Plus at some point? I’d love to know, and keep up your fantastic work on your channel and keeping us updated with Disney Plus! :)

Probably the only streaming service I'm interested in subbing to. Disney owns a lot of the content I watch, something other platforms fall short with even the low price being a struggle to justify what very little content they have which interests me. Saying that, I do still buy blurays and (if unavailable on bluray) DVDs. I can't imagine that changing if I did subscribe since I love to own a copy of things I really like...Saying that though, it takes a lot of value away from the service. I guess things like Disney Channel cartoons in a decent quality may be worth it alone though since stuff like that can be a bit hard to get hold of, especially outside of the US.

@@lightdarksoul2097 Not sure what Netflix binge is (never subscribed to it) but I'm not sure what I would prefer. On one hand having an entire series availble all at once is nice, though I also do like having a new episode every week. Keeps me coming back and maintains interest in the show rather than getting it all done in one day and forgetting about it. I only mean in regard to newly produced content though. It wouldn't make sense for them to drip feed something that's already aired in its entirety like Gravity Falls with weekly episodes.

@@linkno1 The netflix binge is when you spend a year getting people to enjoy or look forward to a show but then after they rush through it they are left with nothing for another year. It is good in the short term but spreading the episodes would be way better at least in my opinion but series that are already done like Gravity Falls should be there in full it's more the original new series that will take time.

It's intriguing. I'm definitely going to miss Simpsons World on FX Now. Disney still continues to act like they started in the 1990s. I would love to see them go deep into the Walt-era TV shows and specials, the pre-Eisner Disney stuff (including some of those early Disney Channel shows like Welcome to Pooh Corner and Dumbo's Circus), the entire Disney TV Animation library from Wuzzles and Gummi Bears to the Three Caballeros series and beyond. Heck, put on Golden Girls, Empty Nest, and some family-friendly Touchstone TV series and movies there too. And while we're at it, bring in the classic Muppets Show, Muppet Babies, Muppets Tonight, Dinosaurs, and Bear in the Big Blue House too. Oh, and since they do own the Fox library outright, airing library fare like Xuxa and the Fox Kids library they still own outright would be nice. How about those ABC Afterschool Specials and Weekend Specials too as well as Schoolhouse Rock? Why be a Disney outlet if you only celebrate and show the stuff and acquisitions made in the last decade or two?

Definitely will be getting this. I mainly want to see the original content on there like Clone Wars Season 7 and The Mandalorian and the MCU shows. I’m planning on doing the yearly subscription.

No lie, I was worried about this at first, but now I’m honestly seriously considering getting a subscription. Yeah, I’m definitely going to continue building a physical collection, but there are still a bunch of older titles I technically own on VHS, but have no VCR to play them on anymore, so the older titles would be worth a look for me. I was initially surprised at the price, but then I realized Disney *owns* all this stuff. There’s no negotiating with third parties on how much they need to pay to stream, so it keeps the price at that low rate. It’s a great deal that’s hard to justify refusing, especially if we’re looking at families. On a lighter note, I just thought of my 8th grade social studies teacher watching the Simpsons part. He loves the Simpsons... but has also hated Disney ever since Fox and the Hound (the fox’s name is Todd and so is my teacher’s. oops. 🤣). I need to find him on Facebook and see his reaction to all this lmao.

As long as they have their back catalogue of cartoons from 1930 to the early 2000’s that’s mainly what I care about everything else is just icing on the cake.

As for the pricing they probably will do what Netflix did. They will probably rise the price for new consumers but grandfathered in everyone else. When Netflix rise their prices I was grandfathered in for like a year or two years before my price was gone up. I just ended up upgrading mine because of 4K.

Really looking forward to getting Disney+ this November just so many films and shows under Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Nat Geo and Fox that I can watch from. On top of that, it’s $7.00 per month and going to give Netflix a run for their money.

Really good breakdown of the conference Dave!! I think this is a pretty good direction for Disney to go in. I also don't think that they'll abandon physical media just yet, I'm not too concerned about DMC or DMR ending its services. I'm the happiest about Disney channel content, because so much of it has never seen a (proper) physical release.

I agree physical media and DMC will stick around in fact new DMCs like A Goofy Movie Bluray are being released this year along with Physical content stores like Cinderella is joining there Signature DVD and Blu ray collection this June. Physical Media is here to stay I think.
