Tokyo DisneySea is without a doubt the pinnacle of theme park design and the fact that it exists at all is a miracle, with us almost getting a lacklustre studio theme park instead of the meticulously designed seven-seas masterpiece.

I am simply blown away by what the Oriental Land Co. is doing with Tokyo DisneySea and the Tokyo Disney Resort as a whole. They give the fans what they want while still introducing new rides, resort, hotels and attractions that feel like a natural and fitting addition to the existing parks. It also truly shows what Disney Imagineering can do without the constraints of a budget and when imagineers are not required to limit their imagination to IP' based rides.

Love love love Disney Sea! I grew up in Florida and spent many years visiting Disney World and Epcot was my favorite park for decades. Once I moved to Japan and visited Disney Sea, I was blown away! I didn't think anything would be better than Epcot, but I was so surprised... it felt like I was rediscovering the Disney magic for the first time again! If you ever get the chance to go out there, fellow commenters, it is 100% worth it!

Hello, I will be in Japan for the first time next month. I have one evening, one full day, and one 3/4 day to spare. Would you recommend the following itinerary to someone who has been to Disneyland in Anaheim numerous times? Day 1: Tokyo Disney (5-9pm) Day 2: Disney Sea (9am-9pm) Day 3: Tokyo Disney (9am-5pm). Or should I dedicate more time to Disney Sea?

Grew up loving Epcot in Orlando. Fell in love immediately with Tokyo DisneySea first time I came back in ‘04 (fun fact, Orlando, and Shin Urayasu ( the city in which TDL is located) are sister cities). I told all of my friends how great the park was when I went back to the states. I would often visit whenever I would come visit Japan as a kid/ teen. Ironically, I don’t get to go as often as I’d like now that I live at the same station as DisneySea, Maihama. So glad they didn’t go with the studios theme. Another thing that adds to the overall experience IMO is also the Japanese tendency towards wearing “actual clothes” to theme parks. Especially Disney. Japanese culture already has a notion of always trying to present your best out in public, but being around people who you can tell put thought into their outfits whether it’s dressing in similar outfits as their friends, or just dressing in non athleisure wear, the fashion of the guests adds to it. I didn’t notice this until I went back to Disney World in America and saw how Americans dress in comparison.
@penguinshug151007
@penguinshug151007 Жыл бұрын
Well spotted! As a Japanese, I'd never realised that until one of my American friends pointed out. Japanese guests would often dress up to go to TDL, whereas American guests tend to choose their "holiday clothing" such as T-shirt and shorts.

Such a wonderful park! I live in Tokyo and visit Disney Sea at least once a year. It is absolutely stellar. Even their version of Soaring is MUCH better than the American versions with a wonderful theme and backstory. I am curious about the new expansion that will add Peter Pan, Tangled and Frozen. I hope it's not another Epcot situation where the park eventually loses its vision due to shoehorned movie IPs.

The food we had at TDR was quite good, On the first day, we had lunch on the oceanliner, dinner in the MircaCosta buffet. Second day lunch was at the Queen of Hearts dining hall, this was the least good meal we had at the resort, but still not bad. Dinner at Crystal Palace and on the last day lunch at Yuccatan canteen (?) with delicious freshly made tortillas and dinner at the fortress which was also very good. We were lucky to dine in the hidden wine cellar, accessible through a secret door. Reminded me a bit of the Skipper Canteen, unfortunately, there they took away the secret door. On the last day, we went to the pool of Hotel MiraCosta in the morning, where you have to pay an admission fee. The pool is very nicely decorated and has a gorgeous venetian style garden. Funny thing was, while I was walking around the garden I turned a corner and was basically standing opposite the line for the venetian gondola ride, with hundreds of japanese tourists across the canal staring at me only wearing my swimming trunks. :-)

I sincerely hope that you make it to the Tokyo Disneyland Resort and see DisneySea some day! It is an amazing park that must be experienced to be believed. (Tokyo Disneyland is great too.) I know exactly how you feel about crying too. I always experience a tingling sensation on the back of my neck when I experience extreme happiness. I have felt it a few times when I visited various theme parks. I felt it when I walked down Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom and saw Cinderella Castle for the first time. I also felt it when I walked under the glass roof of World Bazaar at Tokyo Disneyland for the first time. The most recent time that I felt that tingle was when I went to DisneySea for the first time and I walked through Aquasphere Plaza right after the park opened in the early morning. My neck tingled even more when I proceeded to walk under/through Miracosta and saw the grand reveal of Mediterranean Harbor with Mount Prometheus in the background. It was stunning...absolutely stunning! I have been to DisneySea two more times since that first visit back in 2016 and that entrance walk into the park never ever fails to make my jaw drop. It is the best entrance to any theme/amusement park that I have been to so far. Don't get me wrong because I will always love the entrance to Disneyland because it was the park that I grew up going to and thus it is responsible for me being a big theme/amusement park fan throughout my life, but DisneySea takes grand entrances to another level.

While what Jim Cora said may have be technically true, it is not possible to refute that Disney Sea borrowed a lot from Port Disney. I mean come on! The imagineers were surely aware of each other’s design concept. So much design and research were done, there is no way that Disney Execs didn’t expressly insist imagineers to at least take some basis or design between the artwork and planning prepared for both the canceled port Orleans and WESTCOT! But whatever! It is a stunning park to visit! And for shame Long Beach. It would have revised and enhanced a really beautiful , vibrant city that is really undervalued! Disney would have changed all that. The airport would increase. City beautification projects could have been made. Good jobs and increase home values! They really “missed the boat” on that one!

I've visited TDR twice, both times we stayed 2 nights at Hotel Miracosta, which was extremely expensive, but so beautiful. Had great park view rooms both times. At the time, when you bought 3 Day tickets, you had to choose which 1 park for the first day, then the other for the second day. On the 3rd day, you could go to either park and also do hopping. But we always did TDS on day 1, doing all the rides, then Disneyland park the second day and on the 3rd went back to TDS, not riding any rides but just walking around the park and admiring all the little, hidden details. Really want to go back.

I went in 2011 or 2012. I had one of the few journey to the center of the earth videos on youtube for a short while. For some reason I deleted that channel. I was only 15 but it was a magical park. My whole family agreed disney sea is the best disney park that we have been to (haven't been to shanghai or hong kong, but have been to the rest). Disneyland Anaheim will always be the best because of it's mostly intack originality, but Disney Sea is the best THEME park. The themeing is outstandingly insane. Above typical disney standards with very few exceptions. And like he said "just walking around is enjoyable", he is right. Like obviously, ride the rides, but we had 4 days at both parks (park hoppers), and the last day was mostly disney sea and us just walking around soaking it in for a few hours before going crazy riding rides, to then just enjoy walking at night til close. Out of all the parks I've been to, I want to go back to this one more than any other. If you dislike disney parks, you will probably still enjoy this park, at least more than the other disney parks. No park is a 10/10 like this one was, and seems still is. Biggest gripe seems to be slow expansion, and the new expansion "disney-fying" it too much. Disney sea feels like disney without it being all up in your face about it. I love disney parks, but this one is magical too for NOT being typical disney. Expansion needs to be handled with care or it could tarnish it Bonus: Journey is the best test track, Paris has best bigthundermountain, Orlando has best tower of terror, Disneyland has best pirates

No rumors yet, but it is now very likely that Universal is making their version of Shanghai Disney's incredible Pirates ride in the form of the Creature from the Black Lagoon in Universal Classic Monsters world. That seems like the coolest ride at Shanghai Disney & will be huge in Florida, where are Pirates ride (and overall dark water rides) aren't near as good as the Asian counterparts. I would hope that they would first completely cancel Tiana's Bayou Adventure and leave the two Splash Mountains like they are. Then I would hope that they would bring back the original bride figures to the two Haunted Mansions. The original voiceless and super creepy bride is still in the Tokyo Disneyland's Haunted Mansion.

Thank you so much for this great video. I loved every minute of it! I have visited the Tokyo Disneyland Resort on three separate vacations so far. I was planning to visit it even more but the blasted covid-19 pandemic delayed my vacation plans unfortunately. I loved Tokyo Disneyland but DisneySea completely blew me away every time that I visited it. I was watching DisneySea's progress from afar (I'm in California) since it was first announced and I was so afraid that my overhyped expectations would set me up for epic disappointment when I first visited the park in 2016. My lofty expectations not only were met, they were completely blown out of the water! Just when I started to lose faith in The Walt Disney Company being able to create a theme park where high quality for the guests is the most important factor, I found out that that concept is still alive and well at a Disney theme park...I just had to go all the way to Japan to experience it. My suggestion is that if you are a Disney theme park fan you must, must, absolutely MUST visit DisneySea. There is no other Disney theme park like it. This video does a fantastic job of showing how incredible DisneySea is but to be totally honest, no video can do justice to the quality of DisneySea and the park simply must be experienced in person to be fully appreciated. I will warn you that once you go there, your expectations for any other Disney theme park will be set a bit higher and you will notice how the other parks are just not quite up to your new higher standard. (Note that I cannot comment on how this "increased standard" effects Disneyland Paris or Walt Disney Studios because, unfortunately, I have not been to the parks in France yet. Hopefully I will be going to them soon though.) I just wish that the heads of the US Disney theme parks would go to DisneySea and take notes on how to successfully manage a theme park in a way that does not alienate (or flat-out upset) your most loyal guests. It seems that the US parks go out of their way to purposely not borrow ideas from the Japanese parks and that is a shame. In my opinion a good idea is a good idea, no matter where it originally came from. This is just my 100% pure speculation since I do not work for The Walt Disney Company in any way, thank goodness, but I suspect that the guys in charge at the US parks do not borrow from Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea because they feel that the two Japanese parks are inferior because they are not "The Original" or "The Biggest." That arrogance is a shame for the most important people in the equation...the guests. As I said, that is just my pure speculation though and I really do not have any idea why the US parks continually ignore the Japanese ones. I did not know that the second gate park for The Tokyo Disneyland Resort was going to be yet another Hollywood movie studio type park like Disney-MGM Studios. Movie studio type theme parks were absolutely revolutionary and changed the theme park landscape...back in 1964 when Universal Studios first opened to the public in Southern California. The concept had become so tiresome and overdone by the time it was suggested to OLC. Thank goodness the guys at OLC turned that old and stale idea down! The Walt Disney Company did not follow OLC's lead when it became their time to develop a second gate park next to Disneyland Paris. (I will save my opinions about Walt Disney Studios for after I visit it for the first time.) Thank you again for the excellent video. It will have to keep my appetite for DisneySea under control until I can finally visit the park again.

Disney Sea is the best theme park I have ever been to. I really want to visit Disneyland Paris and Efteling because from what I have seen they may be as good.

not anytime soon, first off Fantasy Springs (peter pan, frozen and tangled expansion) is set to open next year... they have to recoup that investment, then a major part of Tomorrow land is being rethemed to make way for the new Space Mountain which is set to open in 2027... on top of all this they don't have much land to build on.

Sounds like Tokyo DisneySea's future is kind of bleak because part of its draw is that it's a Disney park that doesn't prominently feature Disney characters. After that expansion, they will begin to dominate.

Disney underestimated Japan and oriental land. They thought it’s not gonna be profitable so Disney only allowed Oriental land to be franchised instead of running it. The result? Oriental land became one of the major successful company in Japan.

I have mixed feelings about Fantasy Springs, if only because it doesn't really continue to water theme (and the waterway wasn't routed into it) and seems more like an IP grab, which is what Disney has been doing everywhere else. DisneySea has weathered the (I assume required) increased inclusion of IP pretty decently, but Fantasy Springs is just a strange Fantasyland add-on that they decided to tack onto the park.

The nice thing about the Tokyo parks is that they're run by another Japanese company on a license from Disney, which means that other company has much more say in how the parks operate. Given the disastrous trends the current executives are pushing in the other parks, it's nice to see this resort look at all that and go "...Let's _not_ do that."
