I didn't think I'd like Tusk after reading a review that said it was basically Fleetwood Mac coming back to earth after Rumours. And the first few listens were sketchy but god did it grow on me. Anymore it's my favorite of the Buckingham/Nicks albums

I saw Cream in Philly at the stadium with a rotating stage (distracting, but otherwise a great concert), then drove over to have a look at the liberty bell and got stopped by a cop for driving up a wrong-way street downtown. Narrow escape and minor miracle there.

Ginger was known for his long drum solos. As an aspiring drummer myself, I was a mega-fan. My first concert was Cream at the Oakland Coliseum.

Yeah, that's why I disagree with Abby about Jack being an AMAZING blues singer. Just look at "Rollin And Tumbling", "Train time". His blues singing gives me goosebumps.

Since you like Prog and poet inspired music, you might check out Renaissance eg Ashes are Burning or Turn of the Cards (‘73/‘74). Amazing vocalist and nothing like them.

The UK may look better, but certainly doesnt sound better. The hand etched matrix US copies(both 1st and 2nd pressings with the longwear plating LW and autodisc W runout marks) are the consensus best originals and are the only pressings from the master tape. While the UKs are pressed from copy tapes(which means information loss and thus lower fidelity). Disraeli gears is one of the uncommon but not rare cases of this happening with UK bands. Often country of origin means theyre cut from the master, but not always. And while superior copies have been cut from copy tapes, the mastering of the UK is not good enough to close the sonic gap. The uk copies are still good and are better than the stamped US copies(also from copy tapes) but the etched US atcos are widely considered the best. Where even a US etched yellow label 2nd pressing stereo sounds better than a 1st UK stereo. A similar record is shades of deep purple. The original US vinyl was the only one that used the master tape, as it was lost on tour, so UK got a copy tape. Same with the first pressings of aqualung, the 1A US reprise was cut from the master as the 1st UK was a copy. Im happy you enjoy your copy, the UK reactions are still great sounding, but people with US etched copies are not missing a thing by not having a UK. Its infact those with UK copies who are missing out(unless they care more about looking at their record over playing it). The only pressing that compares to the etched US copies is the abbey road half speed mono. Some even prefer it to the US. And the sleeve and label is designed just like the first UK, while sounding better. Now UK definitely got the better pressings of other albums like fresh cream but not disraeli gears. If you don't hear an etched US you won't be missing something, but side by side it's clearly better than the UK and is why consensus is such.

@@simonemurray1345 I actually do happen to own an etched US stereo press and haven't really noticed much improvement from the UK. I'll have to give it another listen and compare the two side by side. I wasn't aware that the UK copies were from a copy tape! Where did you hear that?

Very true. I absolutely love and adore The Who.....one of my top 10 favorite all-time bands, but as much as I love their studio albums, they're just not heavy like their contemporary live recordings. Sometimes it even comes off sounding thin. Keith was a powerhouse drummer, but you'd never know it because it's very light on a lot of studio recordings. Take "Who Sell Out" for example. Not very heavy, but look what they were doing at Monterey. Going crazy, destroying instruments, feedback etc. It's a weird dichotomy with them. I wish they could've had more early psychedelic era albums where they could've pushed the envelope with the heaviness and experimentation. One more thing. I remember seeing an interview w/Townsend in the "Kids Are Alright" documentary film talking about the silliness of listening to the Beatles in Stereo with vocals and instruments separated on the speaker channels sounding thin, which; ironically he was doing himself on Who recordings! Lmao! Oh, Pete. Smh.

All you have to do is watch any home show on HGTV and every home is white/gray. And people enjoy this?!? To each their own, but I don't understand people being happy in a monotone, colorless world. Life should be full of art with lots of color!

@@abigaildevoe Before Cream's first set Bill Graham announced the performance was going to be recorded and to please refrain from playing tambourines in the audience. The four songs I can still visualize are the four on the album, "Traintime": watching Jack Bruce belting out the song and playing his harmonica alongside Ginger. "Toad" because who didn't want to hear a drum solo in those days. "Spoonful" with Jack's powerful voice and the extended improvised middle with the three virtuoso's just killing it. But the song that I can most visualize to this day is "Crossroads" with Eric's blistering guitar solo. An aside, I forget which album cut it is but if you listen closely you can hear a tambourine in the beginning coming from the audience. 🙂 This is a set list I found of the songs Cream played during their first set of the Sunday night performance at Winterland, Tales Of Brave Ulysses, Spoonful, Crossroads, We're Going Wrong, Sweet Wine. ( These performances of Spoonful & Crossroads are on the LP.).

and if you DID ask ginger you might not walk out of there with all your fingers and toes intact.

Pete's albums with his own band, Battered Ornaments are pretty good. Not essential, but interesting.
