Knowing the teen years are right around the corner for us, I am hoping to avoid some of the pitfalls that I hear so many parents describe...you know, the attitudes, the disrespect. Join me at my kitchen table as I chat with you today about teaching kids respect. And, as always, these aren't parenting tips or advice! I'm right there in the trenches with you, mama, learning and figuring out motherhood as I go along! These uploads are me sharing my heart and MY journey concerning different topics. I'm so happy to have you pull up a chair, (or wash dishes, or fold laundry...) as we chat today.

I love your kind hearted approach to supporting fellow moms. Particularly, I love that you acknowledged that perhaps that was a “bad day” for the child. As a mother of two non-neurotypical children who have significant behavioral regulation issues at times that spoke right to my heart. With my neurotypical children, I can’t agree enough about modeling and expecting respectful behavior. (Of course I model it for all the kids but my expectations are slightly different based on the children’s’ capabilities.) Side note, you have such a calming voice!

Thank you for this! Love the bit about parents having a loving tone, not nagging or yelling, so kids can more easily respond in the same way. Also love the focus on the child's heart, not just outward obedience.

I'm 15 and I obey my mom to the max, she is the one that is in total control. Everyday, I come home from school and the 1 st thing I do, is give her my phone...don't want any distractions, then I do my homework, then all the chores for that day, which must be done to my moms satisfaction. Then I do whatever she tells me to do with no back talk or arguing. On the weekends, I do want she wants me to do, Before I have my "Free time"

This was so good... I'm sad to say my kids are very disrespectful...I don't know where to start to have this all change. But I see it's in praying to ask God for help and then I'm to learn to speak respectfully to them. I grew up in a house where although there wasn't yelling, there was an unkindness or authoritative way that was demeaning. I guess I really didn't have a good emotional example. But I know God can teach me and you've given me huge encouragement too. Thx a ton!🤗👍

You always do a good job of sharing your experience without preaching. Thank-you for sharing the resources you use, that book looks awesome. I think it is important as a parent to respect our children and treat them as equals even though we have authority and responsibility over them. It seems like you do a great job of that.

Wow Shirley, you have this KZfaq thing down! 👏 I love your quality content, and coming to your channel is like a breath of fresh air - not to mention I could listen to your sweet voice all day! 😁 Can we be neighbors? Haha. I agree, we don’t have to say that our kids will rebel or do the norm. I remember women telling my mom that about my sister and I and she would always gracefully(or sarcastically;)) reply that she doesn’t think her girls will be “the norm”...and I think she was right. I’ve held my mom in the highest respect and pray that the Lord helps me to be the same respectable mother 💜

When I first read your comment a few days ago (I was in the middle of something when the notification came up on my phone!) I just had to take a second to take it in. It blessed me soooo much. I had edited this upload at like 2am and was actually falling asleep while editing it! When I watched it in full the next day after I posted it I almost took it down because I thought so many cuts were bad! I always want to put out my best, but I'm so thankful that God can take what we think is a mess and make something beautiful to others out of it. And I think I would really like your mama!! She sounds like my kind of person ;) xo

Home & Arrows Aw, I’m glad to have been an encouragement ☺️ I can relate, as I’ve been uploading to KZfaq for over a year now on my other channel and there have been many times that I don’t end up publishing them or finish editing them because the quality wasn’t up to my standards. I’ve had to learn to adjust my standards a bit since my number one priority/job isn’t YT, therefore making the time to do something over again isn’t always the best choice of time. But no, I really mean it, you speak with such clarity, humility, and relatability. Keep up the great work of for the Lord, I think you have a real ministry on this platform. 💕

Hi I like your video. 👍 But I have some questions. I'm doing home schooling with my girls 4 and 7 years old this is are first year doing home schooling and I feel like I can't do this. But I don't want to put them at school. How you did this for 12 years? How you did with science, history? I see a lots of curriculums and it is so hard to choose one.
@ThisBlendedHouse
@ThisBlendedHouse 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rosemery :) We've only been homeschooling for 7 years and yes, it can feel overwhelming when you first begin! But if God has called you to it, He will get you through it! We belong to a homeschool co-op called Classical Conversations and we get most of our history and science facts memorized using CC curriculum. For math we use Horizons for grades K-3rd and Teaching Textbooks for grades 4 and up. For everything else we use The Good and The Beautiful :) Best of luck as you begin your journey!

@@ThisBlendedHouse hi God bless you. Thank you for responding my text. What is a homeschool co-op ? CC curriculum it's a company ? Sorry for asking so much question. @ThisBlendedHouse

Classical Conversations is a once a week homeschool group with campuses nationwide. Parents attend each week with their kids. You can visit their website to find a group near you. It does come with its own curriculum. And I am so sorry, but I don't have any experience with children with special learning needs. Homeschooling is a great option for moms who feel like their children struggle academically because you can tailor your curriculum options to their needs. You can identify their areas of struggle and really work with them on that and also highlight their strengths and challenge them in those areas.

Why is it acceptable for content to b directed only to moms?? In 2020?? There r women who suffer from addiction or mental illness that progresses AFTER childbirth.....& some that r simply selfish just as there r men. Then we have mothers who r unavailable at no fault of their own (victims of crime, tragic accidents, disease, etc)....So why only speak to one gender?? I am a single father who has always been the primary caregiver to a daughter. Though I know the world is full of others, I continually find parents still working from a fictional point of view that somehow suggest parents have stereotypical roles. They never have.....As far back as u choose to go in history, there have been death at child birth & other factors that make assumptions regarding these roles unrealistic.

I don’t agree with the situation and example given here. Children are living beings and they need to be expressive about what they think. If the other girl didn’t agree with her mom, that it totally ok. She just needs to be guided about how to put it out better. Which basically means communication improvement. Disrespect or rude is a very serious term to be imposed on a little kid. Also, I am usually not using other kids as examples because that teaches my kids to judge others. I usually prefer them to learn by their own selves. Why to use anyone else as any example at all? That’s their family dynamics. Also, the girl maybe creative , talented or good at sharing. And it’s a missed opportunity just based on this little episode. Sorry for my alternate views. You explained very well everything just that I hold a different approach to rudeness.
