(WWYD?) explores the varying answers with the help of hidden cameras capturing individuals who have been placed within seemingly everyday situation that quickly go ary. The individuals on this hidden camera show are forced to make tough calls when directly faced with situations of racism, violence, hate crimes, and other hot button cultural issues. Catch John Quinones reporting on these individuals as they make split-second decisions to intervene or mind their own business. WWYD? airs Friday nights at 9|8c on ABC.
What Would You Do? (WWYD) is a hidden camera show, hosted by ABC News correspondent John Quinones, in which unknowing bystanders are placed in uncomfortable, and often compromising real world scenarios in public. WWYD’s hidden cameras focus on the average person’s responses and reactions to these issues of social responsibility. Topics such as gay couples being affectionate in public, date rape, racism and racial profiling, interracial couples, abusive parents, drunk driving, and harassment of the homeless are touched upon in this series. What will you do? Would you choose to intervene in these situations? Watch and join the discussion.

Unpopular opinion, if I’m paying for a fancy restaurant dinner, I don’t want to hear someone’s baby crying all night. As a parent myself I wouldn’t have taken my baby on a night out.

It’s not unpopular. This show I usually like but this time really stupid. Most people I mean 90% of the time would never be ok with a screaming baby in an upscale restaurant. That’s why this is just a show, and even then some guys and a women were complaining. It’s extremely rare that people would be ok for their nights to be ruined. And I look at these parents as what they couldn’t even afford a baby sitter/nanny or care to wait until they can find one but selfishly they wanted to go out. Only happens in America too that a show tries to make it ok when it’s not. Ridiculous. This would never be ok anywhere. That’s why there actually are restaurants that do not welcome small children under certain age and there are adult only cruise ships even before pandemic (they’ve been around for a long time).

This is one of the few WWYDs where I can see the argument against the couple and their baby. If you can afford to eat at an upscale restaurant, you can afford a babysitter for a few hours. If I was there, I don't think I'd personally complain to the manager or anything like that, but if somebody else did I wouldn't blame them.

I would ask the parents to check the baby up first, it should never be "Now I want to enjoy myself, we can ignore our baby first" If the baby didn't stop crying I would go home, not because of the guest (I could not care less honestly) but because the baby's needs should always come first, some say that's not easy, from personal experience I disagree, it's complicated yes, but hard? No

Not allowing babies in high-class restaurants doesn't sound as bad as it seems. It's not like the babies are gonna eat the food there, and if the parents can afford to eat there, they can afford a sitter. I mean what if there's parents there eating on their night out away from their kids and then they hear a baby crying? It's not a bad rule, people wanna enjoy their high-class meals
@viking956
@viking956 2 жыл бұрын
I sort of kinda agree. I don't mind that parents bring their babies but it is a little disrespectful at an upscale restaurant. A good rule of thumb would be if the dress code requires a jacket or if one can expect a bill above $200 for a party of two, seems like that kind of environment customers would not want to be disturbed. And there's plenty of other options for young parents; it's not like it's a city ordinance banning babies from ALL public eateries.

Thank you!! When my babies were little there were many times my husband and I took turns eating while one of us comforted the baby away from everyone else. It's just common decency. I was at Texas roadhouse last night and someone had a baby screaming for 20 plus minutes. I don't care if people bring babies, just get your lazy butt up and take them outside if they start crying!
@JddB229
@JddB229 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, i would take my crying baby outside, but not just as courtesy to the other people there, but also to tend to my baby's needs. It's certainly not okay to ignore your crying baby for 15 minutes without even trying to console them. They are crying for a reason, not just to get attention for the fun of it. If there was a baby crying in a restaurant i was in, i wouldn't be bothered by the fact that the baby was crying to have it's needs met, unless the parents weren't doing anything about it, parents needs to respond to their children's needs regardless of where they are. This video was actually very hard to watch as the parents didn't even try to comfort their crying baby.

To be honest, I side with upscale restaurants that ban very young kids. Non one wants to heard babies crying, children arguing and running all around the restaurant while they have paid for an expensive dinner. Or at the very least, have a separate section where families with children can eat.

For most people it was "the night". Maybe an anniversary, maybe a first date, maybe a long waited night out after saving money for weeks. You can't get it ruined because of a baby crying. I can't imagine the frustration of seeing that occasion completely destroyed in front of your eyes. If you can afford that restaurant, you can afford a nanny. Call me whatever, but I'm with the chef. No kids in my night out.

You're damn lucky my wife and I weren't there. Parenting classes teach that you should NEVER let a child cry for more than 10 minutes without physically picking up the baby and checking their physical wellbeing. We would've called child protective services on parents more interested in wine and steak than checking their possibly sick infant.

I'm a mom, and I totally think that babies and young kids don't belong in a fancy restaurant. The people eating there are not only paying for the food, but also for the atmosphere, and I'm sorry, but a baby does ruin it quite a lot. There are plenty of other restaurants/diners that would probably be a lot more accepting and accommodating of families with young kids, but fancy restaurants are not one of them.

Add me to the "you shouldn't bring small children to an upscale restaurant" crowd. Even in a family restaurant, your children should keep the decibel level down. That is part of being a parent and being considerate of fellow diners. This goes for other public spaces such as movie theaters. We have two children and there have been times that we had to step out when our children were disruptive. We've canceled plans as well due to not having a sitter. It depends on the child as well. Our daughter is the mellowest kid you'll ever meet. She is six and she'd be just fine going to an upscale restaurant. She's more mature than most adults I know. Our son, on the other hand, is a hellion and I'd even worry about taking him to a Chuck-E-Cheese!

They said, "Oh he's probably just tired" but even then, babies don't cry like that and you can attempt to put your child asleep. And it's especially bothering to people who have sensory issues and even for those who don't, it's just very distracting, hard to listen to and you can't sit there for an hour or however long it take to eat out. Just because you have a baby doesn't mean you can't live your normal life, but no doubt, in many ways, your life will and has to change. For others, and honestly for yourself. It's selfish to allow your child to disrupt everyone else in the diner just because you refuse to help your baby by taking them outside for a second or quickly calming them down. If you can't afford a babysitter and nobody you know is willing to take care of them on that day, wait until another day that you can find a way to have your baby/young child somewhere else so you can have a fancy dinner date. And fancy dates at fancy diners where you pay a ton of money aren't all that anyway. You can have fun in other ways, like having a date in the comfort of your own house. But at the very least, if you're going to have a dinner date at a fancy restaurant, make sure your baby isn't crying constantly. Making nearly everyone else in the diner suffer just so you can go to some fancy diner and not attempt, at all, to make your baby not such a distraction isn't right. Plus, if you can afford to go to some fancy restaurant but can't afford to find a babysitter for a couple hours, you should maybe rethink your financial decision to go to that restaurant at all.

If I go to an upscale restaurant I expect a certain atmosphere of peace and quiet. I'm not alone. About 20 years ago in my city a couple was asked to leave an upscale restaurant because of their crying child. The mother complained to the local newspaper about it. Her letter prompted a flood of other letters--and 99% supported the restaurant.

don't bring your screaming infant into fine dining establishments. It is disrespectful to all the other diners. Honestly, crying babies at restaurants really annoy me. Everyone would immediately judge a grown person yelling and talking loudly in a restaurant because they're loud and disruptive , the same thing is with babies crying. Of course, it's not okay to discriminate people with babies, but there are places where you just can't take your baby if you know it will be crying. You know you'd be annoyed if you wanted to eat your dinner in peace, watch a movie in a cinema or had to take a 5 hr long flight with a baby constantly crying. Babies can't help when they cry and sometimes you can't calm them down, but don't be mad at people who are annoyed by that, because it really is annoying.

+Abigail Trumbo You are right about the flying issue. Babies do need to fly sometimes and that's it. But it still is annoying. Some people are okay with a crying baby and some are not. Most of us have a sound we can't stand. I had headphones during my flight to Amsterdam and I could still hear it crying. There's nothing that can be done on this issue besides headphones etc., but it still is very annoying.
@dbsllama6042
@dbsllama6042 7 жыл бұрын
+Abigail Trumbo The parents chose to have their baby and they make others suffer for the baby's problems? That's wrong imo. What does older people have to do with anything? Should they suffer because they likely have more experience with babies being disruptive? I don't think so. In fact, it should be the opposite. Since they've been suffering, they should have to suffer less if anything. Complimentary headphones don't block out much. People shouldn't have to do so just to try to restore what they considered peace and what should have been the default environment (one without a disruptive baby).

People using the fact that a woman is alone to insult her, as if there is something wrong with it rubs me the wrong way. Going on a restaurant to enjoy some alone time is perfectly normal. Parents who bring in crying babies or unruly children should take them home. We did. Asked the restaurant to put our dinner in carry out bags, and away we went. Our first try was to take the baby out of the restaurant and try to calm him down, while the other remained in the restaurant. When that didn't work, we went home and let the other patrons enjoy their meals.

It’s an unspoken rule that if your baby cries for more than five minutes that you need to get up and go outside with the child and calm them down. You chose to have a child, not the people next to you. So, yes it’s rude if you don’t.

You know what I find funny about your comment? It's that you're judging. And guess what's even MORE funnier? The fact that the ONE video YOU POSTED is called: Who are we to judge?... Really? You're gonna judge a baby, an infant, and yet you're the one trying to spread a message about judging? What a joke, ridiculous. I hope you are one day a mother who wants to enjoy a day off without leaving your baby home alone or such. Maybe the baby will cry maybe he/she won't... Cause no one should judge because a baby could be literally "born yesterday". Hypocrite much?

I'm sorry but, I agree with the chef about banning children and babies from upscale restaurants. I 100% agree with it because I've had my evening ruined by crying and screaming children and I wanted to have a nice evening out. Couples and business people go there to spend money and have conversations. If the couple wants to have a nice night out then hire a sitter or go to a family restaurant like Dennys, but not an upscale high end place. People there don't want to continuously hear your child cry and not do anything. I sound like a Karen, but when the parents that were at my restaurant let their newborn 'cry it out' for over an hour. Yeah - no. I wasn't happy and a lot of other patrons weren't either. I'm completely fine with a child/infant ban.

You have no clue how expensive babysitting is. It isnt like the 1990's where you pay $5 an hour or $9 an hour for 2 kids.. Now you are paying kids a minimum of $16.75 an hour for 1 kid and $20 an hour for 2 kids. Its ridiculous what children are charging for babysitting. If your kid is a great kid (meaning sleeps alot) take them out. It isn't a big deal. My nephew was in his first bar at 3 weeks old. He slept through the partying. Mom got to socialize with friends and my brother got to drink with his frienda.

@@jessicaely2521 A close relative can babysit for free maybe. Also, your nephews parents are stupid and iresponsible. You dont party at a bar when you have a 3 week old baby to take care of. Either you grow up and stop partying while the baby is that young and wait until the baby is old enough for babysitting or dont have a baby at all. You dont bring a baby to a bar. What is the point having a baby if you want to be free from it just after 3 weeks and party instead? Answer: no point, end of story.

Nah, would've been better if the parents acted irritated by it, and ignored the crying. Slowly edging the pram away from their own table by a few inches. Comforting a crying baby is no scenario at all -- because it's common nature and completely expected behaviour. Ignoring or getting annoyed at your own crying baby is a decent social experiment, and would've yielded better results.
