Reviving Virtue

Күн бұрын

In this video, I delve into the transformative power of habit, exploring its multifaceted nature from the philosophical perspectives of John Dewey to Deleuze and Spinoza. I illuminate how our habitual behaviors are part of complex 'Mind-Body-Environmental Assemblages,' and invite you to consider them as levers for personal and societal change. Join me as I navigate the intricate landscapes of daily routines, ethical dilemmas, and the potential for meaningful transformation through conscious reflection.
Books Discussed:
Human Nature and Conduct - John Dewey - bookshop.org/a...
Revolutionary Routines: The Habits of Social Transformation - Carolyn Pedwell - bookshop.org/a...

Thank you for this wonderful talk. I lived a few of the concepts on my own, like embracing ambiguity, but never put it into words. I think that embracing ambiguity requires intellectual humility. That gives me another justification to be humble. Previously I have relied on Dostoevsky's "Humility protects us from humiliation." as my only excuse.

''We cannot breed in men the desire to get something for as nearly nothing as possible and in the end not pay the price. The evils point in reality to the necessity of a change in economic institutions, but meantime they offer serious obstacles to the change. At the same time, the existing economic system has enlisted in behalf of its own perpetuity the managerial and the technological abilities which must [pg 127] serve the cause of the laborer if he is to be emancipated.'' - Human Nature and Conduct by John Dewey.

Could you please consider putting your essays on another service like Rokfin, Rumble, for example. I don't like being threatened by a mega-corporation I use for only a couple of reasons.

Thank you for the suggestions! I will look into both, I had not heard of them, but I am all for posting my material outside the confines of mega-corporations like Google, or Alphabet whatever they call themselves. I could post these scripts on my Substack or Medium, I have not been doing that. My Substack is free!

Thank you, I signed up for your Substack but I can't afford to be a paying member right now. I will start looking for a second job tomorrow!
