One of the greatest R&B love song all time. What Marvin did on this song can never be duplicated nor can it be redone. Everything about this song was perfectly executed, from the instruments, to the silky string arrangement. This man pour his heart out on this song.

You must remember "the good old days". Duke, Louie, Chuck, etc. It seems as though Marvin took all that talent and wrapped it up into his soul. I'm 19 years younger than you. I had an argument with my wife earlier. After we were "done", I put my headphones on, started with Marvin's "Inner city blues". Next thing you know, I'm watching this vid and saw your comment. (sexual healing used to be our song) I unplugged my headphones & let it play aloud. Within 30 seconds, she came out of her "room of doom" & hugged me, telling me she was sorry. (would be inappropriate to go further) LOL! So I guess what I'm trying to say, your comment is appreciated. Literally!!!

I had a distant (distance) Lover i am German he was American and the most incredible charming, engaging, kind handsome gentleman that ever graced my life. We met for a moment in time in Berlin Germany and we had the most thrilling unforgettable Love Affair ever and it was never duplicated. Our chemistry was undeniable and our personality's matched so perfectly which is so rare. Letters went back and forth with a longing for each other and he ask me to come to America so we would never have to say farewell and he wrote that it was the happiest time of his life he spent at my side in Berlin and he shall never forget me. He did not , i found out after he died . I could not take his invitation for various reasons at that time Without going into the many details i immigrated many years later to America and i searched for my love only to find his Legacy/Obituary in June 2018 The pain that pierced my heart i can not express in words . Needless to say my heart will forever ache for him , but i can truly say to my once in a lifetime love resting in eternity my Darling we have not missed that "Many Splendored Thing",,,,,,,,,,, Marvin Gaye was always my musical lover !

Distant Lover Song by (Marvin Gaye) -Distant lover, lover (Lover, lover, lover) So many miles away Heaven knows that I long for you Every night, every night And sometimes I yearn Through the day Distant lover, lover (Lover, lover, lover) You should think about me And say a prayer for me Please, please baby Think about me sometimes Think about me here Here in misery Misery As I reminisce, oh baby Through our joyful summer together The promises we made All the daily letters Then, all of a sudden Everything seemed to explode Now, I gaze out my window Sugar, down a lonesome road Distant lover (Lover, lover, lover) Sugar, how can you treat my heart So mean and cruel Sugar, sugar That every moment that I spent with you I treasure it like it was a precious jewel (Please) Lord have mercy Please, come back, baby Somethin' I wanna say When you left You took all of me with you my lord I wonder Do you wanna hear me scream Please please oh please baby Come back and hold me, girl

Who begs like that today? With that kind of desire and passion for your loved one? That's what's lacking with the generation of today. No passion. Or shall I say passion for the wrong things.
@timothymcgonigle84877 жыл бұрын
You're right Vanessa. Respect for women is all but gone now. This music is from a time when men cherished women and knew what a good woman mean't in their lives. This generation has no clue which is so sad. Women are NOT holes or bitches! They are Gods gift to us men to be our partners and stand beside us through thick and thin. I happen to know Marvin's sister, She is a beautiful person just like Marvin was.
@Jsilence137 жыл бұрын
You two are exactly what's wrong with music. Firstly Timothy, the word you're looking for is 'hoes' not holes. How ignorant and old fashioned must you both be to say there isn't passion and desire for your loved one and women aren't cherished? Idiots.
@timothymcgonigle84877 жыл бұрын
Hugo Lloris Hello Hugo. I got the name 'Hoe" wrong as I don't give that kind of music much airtime in my daily listening or playing of music so I wouldn't know which one it is. As for knowing music, let me enlighten you my friend, I am a professional drummer and percussionist with over 50 years experience and I have performed with some of the biggest names in Jazz, Latin jazz, Salsa, and rock. So please brother, do not try and school me on music as I have probabl forgotten more about music then you will ever know. If you think that these rap singers that degrade women are talented I must say my friend, your taste in music is in your shoe tongues!

Yes people do die, sometimes in their 60’s and some have never really experienced what my man Marvin is singing about. But they are some still living, still don’t get. So sad because you only have one life and you blow it if you will. No redo.

That bass is the incomparable James Jamerson, who basically played on most of Motown's catalog from inception to 1972 (Motown moved to LA), and even still some tracks after. He died drinking himself to death in 1983, likely from being completely underappreciated.
