Distraction is basically like time travel. Its afternoon, and you're already tired. You don't feel like working any more. So you start up an episode of your favourite show, and the next thing you know, its time for dinner. You wake up one morning, and aren't really feeling like it. You type "youtube" in your address bar, and before you know it, the day's passed. You haven't done well over the past few days, and so you're feeling guilty. You want to stop feeling bad, and so you open up Instagram. Boom. By the time you look away, its already time for bed. Before you know it, as you keep engaging in distraction after distraction, your entire life passes you by.. and you're just sat there, thinking, "Wait, where did all my time go?"

Fuck man, you just described my life from 2020-the end of 2021 which was when I left the military, my life was just completed fragmented and I had no sense of purpose.. I'm so glad those days are beyond me now but I remember the days where I'd wake up at 1300 after gaming until 0600 and then just binge watch Netflix and KZfaq videos on literally anything remotely entertaining because I was a dopamine fiend back then.

Very inspiring video Dan! The butterfly effect you are referring to was coined by Edward Lorenz, the father of Chaos theory, which states that even the smallest change in a system can trigger huge effects. Like a butterfly flapping its wings in Brazil causing a Tornado in Kansas. You would love this topic. Read Chaos by Gleick for starters. This will also immerse you into fractals, objects and shapes whose parts resemble the whole, like a cauliflower or a coast line... Not to mention life itself.

I've been out doing my thing for a decade now and got really hung up on my family and culture expectations over my father's death and my mother's illness during the pandemic. I got depressed and found a little hole in the wall to sit for two years. You explained the 3 stages so well! I was never able to put it into words when explaining it to people. In my case it was Science. Stage 1: Science is god, science explains everything. Feelings and emotions are only chemical connections in the brain blabla Stage 2: Rejecting science after working in the pharma industry (I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to say why, but you can imagine) and starting to question everything I ever believed and knew. Stage 3: Realising that the goal is to make spirituality and science work together and see there is useful things in both, especially if you merge them. Unfortunately, when I meet people who are in stage 1 or 2, it's hard to explain there's a stage above that without sounding condescending so I just let them get there on their own without interfering. I'm done losing my energy.

Very well said. Curiosity and motion of mind is what makes a great mind. It's not important so much that it arrives a specific destination of wisdom, yet that it takes the journey and never stops. It's getting people to take that journey is the hard part. That's why in the Principium of Humanity's 2 Greatest Transgressions we talk about our biggest, personal obstacles are our negative desire and negative pride. It blocks us from connecting to that which is truly good, and it blocks us from finding absolute truth, whatever the topic may be. I don't believe you believe in absolutes, but that would be a fun conversation to have.. as I like talking about different perspectives. It's fun. A lot of your recent videos seem to be perfectly fit for what we're doing with the Gens Axiom Principium. I started out writing down principles 12 years ago, as I have studied philosophy, religion, psychology.. since I was 12-13 years old.I was reading college level at that age and now at 48, I've discovered my "notes," of more than a decade, had a body to it. I don't pretend that it's perfect. In fact, I hope to continue working on it til the day I die, never believing it will be complete anytime in the near future. But I do believe absolutes exists.. and thus, there are absolute truths. It's what gives our existence definition and defines the roads we walk on. And after 12 years of working on the Gens Axiom Principium, I'm publishing it to the world.. not expecting a fun response in the beginning from the masses.. as many known philosophers were not accepted during their time. But if one finds that they're called to toil with the understanding of our universe because of who they are... who are we to deny that call ? Love your stuff, Dan. Look forward to seeing more.

Here's my summary from the video: Key insights: - Digital dark ages are a time of distraction, close mindedness and cheap dopamine - Need own sense of purpose and order life in alignment with that to maintain sanity - Repressing potential leads to instant gratification with negative long-term effects - Modern distractions are anything that does not align with purpose/vision - Awareness leads to improvement and improvement leads to awareness of the next better problem to solve - Closed mindedness prevents us from seeing the bigger picture and traps us in negative thought loops - Prove yourself wrong by studying opposite perspectives - Open your mind to newer perspectives - Spreading passion through work rather than just as a means of income - Transfer consciousness into readers/viewers of content PS it was made with AI, streamlined & reordered by me for higher clarity. I hope you enjoyed it

It's just not sustainable to try to be professional if i can't live a good ADULT responsible life, while grinding. . Might be time to find other hobbies like archery or something. We have the backyard to make a little mobile setup and it's probably more refreshing to the mind than gaming.

You don't have to be a professional to make money from gaming, just provide value. Most people that post gaming content only post videos of them playing the game. While gameplay content can be valuable, it's a lot easier to grow if you make guides/tutorials, tips, etc. in my opinion. Then after you have a decent size audience, you can start posting more gameplay content. If you do the things that other gamers don't want to do, you'll grow on KZfaq faster than you think.

One of the things I am the most greatfull for having had when I was a Buddhist Monk was the lack of distractions. It's dificult to understand how much we are distracted by these things in todays society. Both digital, social and physical distractions are minimized and it's just so much easier to focus on one thing which for me when I was a monk was meditating. I remember how long it took for me to stop singing in my mind whenever I was sitting down since I used to sing in musicals and act. Also the idea of letting go of making some kind of carrer or having a use for everything I experienced instead of just being present and experiencing reality as it is now. Great video as always Dan, thank you for sharing!

I am a Muslim and well l was starting to loss faith due the, actions of other Muslims. This caused a very uncomfortable physical reaction, and while that happened l remembered a religious lesson l learned as a child that you should question everything especially your own religion. I remember feeling very confused isn’t it better to follow the religion to the t, anyhow long story short l ended up doing what you suggested and honestly l resolved that my religion makes a lot of sense. Now my reasoning is that you have solutions for your past present and future, this alone is valuable but more than that l would rather believe in the existence of god and be wrong than not believe and be wrong. This was a very valuable video as it explored the many paths the mind can take.

If we are trying to get into the mind of our audience and create for them, then aren't we creating more distraction economy as that is what our culture is hooked on? How do you create for the modern consumer without creating more distractions for people to get stuck in.

I certainly have been a victim of my own need for self-righteousness on the comment threads throughout most of my twenties. The problem I find is that even if you are an open-minded person the comments are just not the place to have that discussion, because the comments inherently are inviting in the opinions of the closed-minded. Even if a person crafts a well-thought-out perspective driven argument that addresses the other person's perspective and then tries to breakdown understand it or offer an alternative it doesn't go anywhere 95% of the time because the people you're talking to are themselves just trying to win an argument not have a conversation. I have found engaging online has just been detrimental to my mental health and a huge time waste when instead I could you know have a discussion with my uncle who politically disagrees with me in person and I can have a far better breakthrough with him and even understand him better at the end then if I tried to comment online to a stranger. I used to have a job where I would go door-to-door raising money for a human rights organization so my entire job was literally to get into little debates at every door to varying extents and I always found I was very successful not because I was trying to prove them wrong and me right but because I was trying to find out more about who they were so I can understand their values and so I could tie their values into what I was doing. It was all about finding common ground that was my entire approach in fact people at the office called me the Trump whisperer because I got over 25 self-confessed Republican voters to join a monthly subscription to help pay for immigration lawyers for children in detention centers. It was only able to do this because I listened more than I talked and I questioned more than I stated. In doing so I actually found that almost all of those people I talked to did care deep down but had phrased certain issues in a political dogmatic way as to disconnect with their own values and all it took was finding a way to verbally bridge that gap. While it is important to stand up for what you believe in there is a time and a place and there was also an approach and I always find that some element of the Socratic method with a genuine interest in understanding the person you're communicating with is vital if you are ever going to get them to understand your perspective either.

Great question. 👍 Even some advice for entrepreneur to keep posting so much in soc media. First you post about products, then start scrolling. That's a distraction 😅

Great video, as always. I appreciate your content. Ironically, describing the Christian God as "a man in the sky" is very much close-minded

In your example, the Snowbird player is the Son of Man, the spirit is the Holy Ghost, and the coach is the Father; all of whom are the team that is God

I’ve actually taken a stoic approach to opinions, that I have the right to no opinion. Mainly because arguing is a waste of energy/time better spent on my vision.
