The song originated with guitarist Dan Donegan's riff, then frontman David Draiman improvised the lyrics, which are heavily influenced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. "I was so inspired being back in the room with a new producer Drew Fulk," Donegan recalled to Revolver. "I said, 'Throw a beat at me that's aggressive and straightforward, just driving.'" After Donegan wrote the riff to go with Fulk's beat, Draiman started scatting the melody, and the words "bad man" came out, which were "a bit inspired about world events that were happening and on his mind." According to Disturbed drummer Mike Wengren, Draiman wasn't directly pointing fingers at Russian president Vladimir Putin, but it's influenced by the situation in Ukraine. "Whether it's a personal list or it's a worldwide list, there's a long list of people that could fit that description right there," he told Reno's rock station Rock 104.5, "That could definitely be 'Bad Woman' too, but 'Bad Man' just fit the syllables of the song, the cadence." The Russians were invading Ukraine as Disturbed were writing the song, so Draiman felt it appropriate that they highlight innocents at the mercy of a bad man. "I feel for the people of Ukraine and everything that they've had to deal with and experience and are continuing to experience," he told HardDrive Radio. "It's horrific to watch the play-by-play of a full-scale war. And it's a shame that it's become just a matter of, like, 'Oh, this is what we do. We check in to see what happened.' As opposed to - I don't know - doing more as a world, other than just throwing tons of money at the situation and contributing to more death and violence. I wish there was more that we could do as a planet to just apply enough pressure in the right places from the right people to make the madman stop."

This is a perfect example of why I listen to you. I actually came across this song recently, heard the first note and thought "this isn't for me" and I clicked off. Because you reacted to it, I thought I'd give it another chance. I loved it. I even shared it with my artistic brother lol. Because of you, I am enjoying music I never dreamed I'd be listening to.

I saw that this is AI art. They used over 10,000 images and it took a month to complete. I really like that Disturbed doesn't seem to pick one side or the other politically in their music. They are all about the message of peace and unity and appear to be equal opportunity haters of politics and politicians, lol. I recently saw an interview with David Draiman who says, as a country, "we are addicted to outrage." Yeah. I agree. We've lost perspective on reacting in proportion - an argument over pineapple on pizza should not end with a funeral service. But we've collectively lost our damn minds and let people with agendas stoke the fires and goad us to the brink. They normalize going from zero to sixty as a rational response. It permeates everything, from politics to the rise of The Karens. People screaming in parking lots because they didn't get a parking space they were going for. Something that should be a minor annoyance is filmed by no less than 5 people and ends with physical violence. I mean ... wtf? This whole new album is focused on pretty much the same message in different ways. Oh, also, there's a duet, the only "power ballad" on the newest album, with David Draiman and Ann Wilson from Heart. ("Don't Tell Me") My God, the woman is in her early 70s and her voice just ages like a fine wine...

We have some superpowers who can do this, so that makes every other control measure impotent. So, we use diplomatic pressure. Measures that take so long to cut through that the aggressors have taken what they wanted. Our collective leaders sit on their hands and do f*ck all. Bad (Man) People.
