David Draiman of Disturbed ...a one of a kind voice! Just beautiful! Angelic at times... then powerful... then the distortion! Fabulous. I don't think many people realize that he is one of the only singers that can actually put vibrato on distortion/rasp.... NOT an easy thing to do! Loved it! Thanks Grumpy!

This is the cover from 2016 that inspired the other cover artsts, with his masterful technique and use of vocal fry and the beautiful, haunting arrangement. I 'discovered' Disturbed while looking up Simon + Garfunkle on YT. Was so blown away that i dove head first into their discography. They intrduced me to my first metal/hard rock, and ... i fell in love! 😅 Many new artists have since released their versions of this song, including Dan Vasc, Tommy Johansson, Henk Poort, Pentatonics, more. As great as they all are, though, 5 years after release, Disturbed still owns this song. Even Paul Simon was duly impressed and posted Disturbed's cover to his website ... not something he would normally do. David Foster music producer extraordinaire, was so impressed with Disturbed's version of SOS that he wanted to collaborate with them on a song. He got together with Disturbed, and song writer Dianne Warren and they came up with a beautiful. Yet largely unknown ballad on Disturbed's Evolution album, "Uninvited Guest". David Draiman said that recording SOS was the longest session he's ever had to do. DISTURBED were just finishing recording Immortalized and he thought he was done recording for the day, (so he had gotten good and high) 😂 then went into the sound booth with no plan of approach to take with the song as it was a last minute decision to include it. He and the producer went over every possible variation, and wrote the original arrangement, until they finally created this masterpiece.

OMG, the tissues I've 🤧 gone through since I discovered David Draiman and Disturbed performing their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on April 29, 2024. That day I have to believe my spirit 🙏 guides (out of the blue) first led me to a cover video by Dan Vasc singing "Amazing Grace" which was phenomenal 👏 and then to the cover video of Disturbed and David Draiman singing this most POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL 😂rendition of Simon and Garfunkels "The Sound of Silence". I'm 75 and was 15 when they released one of the most popular classic songs of our time during the 60's. It is amazing how relevant it is today, actually I feel it is even more relevant than ever in so many different ways. I've spent days since listening and seeing, you notice I didn't say viewing, the many channel hosts and each of their reactions and have 😢 almost every time. It's funny that more males have gotten teary-eyed than females, just an observation. Thanks, Diane

I discovered this band and this cover just as was locked down for 5 months after flying from Northern CA to Myrtle Beach, SC. My son’s a Battalion Chief for FD and needed help with his very ill wife and 3 year old twins. Needless to say KZfaq was a god send. I’d never heard of this band though I’ve never stopped loving Rock from the 60s t through the 90s. Even some heavy metal. Fell in love with this cover and their other original songs. Some are heavy metal, some are not. Disturbed just released a new album a few months ago. David Draiman was able to duet with Anne Wilson of Heart!!! Incredible song. David Draimen was originally a Jewish Cantor, as was his father and grandfather before him. That’s where his incredible tone comes from. You don’t have to be a fan of heavy metal to enjoy this band. Enjoyed your reaction. You don’t seem grumpy at all! My very first live concerts were The Beach Boys, the Association, and Paul Revere and the Raiders when I was high school and Credence Clearwater Revival when I was in college. I’ve lived through some incredible music eras!!! Keep them coming!

Neon god... could be entertainment. Think of the purposes of neon lights in store windows... they are meant to catch our attention which serves to pull our attention from the people near us to the pleasures offered within the stores...

Speaking of Simon & Garfunkel, Peter Hollens & Tim Foust do a terrific version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (on Hollens channel). Adam Chance & The Hound & Fox do a great rendition of "Sound of Silence" that's almost a diametric opposite of Disturbed's rendition.

Hey you! Been out of commission for a bit, nothing serious, so I haven’t checked with you for a while. For real now, how are you and yours. The automatic answers are “fine, great, good” (seldom less than okay). Nevertheless - some problems will just go away in time. Well, some won’t. Just the luck of the draw, I guess. The trick is to tell what needs attention when. The best to all of you my friend.😊❤

I hope everything is fine , great , good. Everything is really great here. My wife's health is great. Back to the doctor at the end of the month just to get checked. I am loving retirement. Having lots of fun , getting my walk in every day going to the gym and doing a ton of woodworking projects and just doing things when I want . Thanks as always Gary and take care of yourself and talk to you soon.

@@grumpyoldguyreacts Woodworking? Indeed! I had a replica hull and deck assembly of a 1900s Friendship sloop. Built in south Boston of one inch composite wood, fiberglass and resin not far from Friendship, Maine. I had irregular shaped blocks of teak like from a section of a tree taken to share with humans. Maybe against their will at first but they got to like it. It’s like having pets that will outlive you so you don’t have to mourn their problems and death. Hmm. So, yeah, about the wood, 3 inch thick by 12” x 18” I’d convert that to metric just for curiosity but I’m too much in my cups. And teak decking. And antique bronze side lights, stern light, and masthead light. The last was supposed to be an all around white light. But the glass because of WW1 lacked manganese so the glass turned blue or purple or something. Wow. You mentioned woodworking and started all this. As always, I’m not responsible for anything I don’t remember. Call whenever. I’m here alla time. G’night.

@@grumpyoldguyreacts Hah? Wotsa matta you? To much change? Relax, it gets better as time moves faster. Soon you’ll all be alright. All of me too. Again, my favorite mantra - “. . . the Mother who takes of the people who aren’t welcome in heaven.” Like me. What you’ve done before at your age, situation, whatever, is just the beginning of the rest of your life. (That reminds me of a song.) You’re a good guy. Good people. Bless you (as if I had authority to bless anyone but it’s from the heart.) I’m up and doing for the next day or so. So don’t let me take up too much of your time but it’s really good to hear from you. How’s da house pooch?
