As a U.S. Army Veteran (who suffers from PTSD), when I first heard this song a couple of years ago, I couldn't even begin to express in words how much this song touched me to my very core. I've shared this song with some of my closest friends, who have been suffering from PTSD due to active duty military service as well. This truly does bring a sense of comfort and peace during those unfortunate, unsettling, moments that PTSD can bring on. Thank you, for such an inspiring song.

I apologize for the late one year reply. I completely understand and get it. Even though I have remarried and have four kiddlets, but every Thanksgiving I keep remembering how my previous wife died in Iraq. Since I remarried, my wife has been extremely supportive with events that have taken place I my life, that are connected to my PTSD. Hang in there, you got this!

@flavapuff69 - I am sorry for your loss. I want you to know this listening to this song stopped me from drinking a deadly mix of poisons I wanted to drink out of rage at people at my work that need to mind their own business and not hide behind a peer director to avoid me the bull face to face. I was going to kill myself to remove myself from their childish focus and that they need to do work and mind their own. I kept listening to this song over and over again and when I would reach for the bottle my other hand reached for the phone and had me call 988 several times. That triggered law enforcement involvement which was an interesting experience but they were kind and got me to a crisis center and counseling now. LIke the very badly injured man in this video for this awesome song, The Light was there thanks to David D. and the guys and GOD honestly too. I am now getting the help I need and getting the help at my work to deal with several childish people too. I apologize. This was not to be about me. I just wanted to share how this song was part of saving my life and me not killing myself. Total strangers (an amazing police officer and a crisis center counselor - total strangers cared that I was alive and then family and friend showed up.....*many man tears now sorry*.... know your story as related to this song keeps me going to be healed. I pray your soul and life always see "The Light" know you have a guy in De Pere WI that cares and that your story is helping to heal me/him. GOD Bless. David D. and the guys in Disturbed you all SO ROCK in the RIGHT WAY for so many right reasons. :)

I feel like this is an uplifting song. If you look at humanity as a world our greatest moments have been when we have been beaten down. The human spirit survives in the darkness of slavery, brutality, and everything that is thrown at us because we hold onto that light, that hope, that faith that burns inside us all.

For the darkness to be the light, I would had been worded different. this is saying "sometimes darkness can SHOW you the light". the word show implies that the darkness is only a milestone to The Light. and no, unlike most KZfaq comments, I mean no hostility.

+AlphaLeader772 I think that he's had quite a few mature songs since then but the Sickness was all anger. I don't want to say he's mellowed out but their music has definitely changed. This album wasn't really anymore mature than Asylum or Indestructible. It's just a different tone and subject matter. I like it don't get me wrong. I'm always glad to see them do something different. But to say that this album is more mature than any of the ones before it isn't really accurate.
@Immolator772
@Immolator772 8 жыл бұрын
GrimReaper01 Anger that every teen has, it's far more mature since he is not relying in anger. Making songs with anger are really easy to write, making a story of the lyrics is much harder. The mature person gets serious, he doesn't rely on anger. This song especially gives hope, not thinking about murdering someone.

Like an unsung melody The truth is waiting there for you to find it It's not a blight, but a remedy A clear reminder of how it began Deep inside your memory Turned away as you struggled to find it You heard the call as you walked away A voice of calm from within the silence And for what seemed an eternity You're waiting, hoping it would call out again You heard the shadow reckoning Then your fears seemed to keep you blinded You held your guard as you walked away When you think all is forsaken Listen to me now (all is not forsaken) You need never feel broken again Sometimes darkness can show you the light An unforgivable tragedy The answer isn't' where you think you'd find it Prepare yourself for the reckoning For when your world seems to crumble again Don't be afraid, don't turn away You're the one who can redefine it Don't let hope become a memory Let the shadow permeate your mind and Reveal the thoughts that were tucked away So that the door can be opened again Within your darkest memories Lies the answer if you dare to find it Don't let hope become a memory When you think all is forsaken Listen to me now (all is not forsaken) You need never feel broken again Sometimes darkness can show you the light, beautiful Sickening, weakening Don't let another somber pariah consume your soul You need strengthening, toughening It takes an inner dark to rekindle the fire burning in you Ignite the fire within you When you think all is forsaken Listen to me now (all is not forsaken) You need never feel broken again Sometimes darkness can show you the light Don't ignore, listen to me now (all is not forsaken) You need never feel broken again Sometimes darkness Can show you the light

I cried for five days straight, and when I listened to Disturbed, it made it all wash away which I'm SUPER grateful for. I'm doing much better at a new school, with friends, teachers who understand my problems, and medication. This song basically says to me, "Don't give up, it just wants you find it." The timing of when this song came into my life is absolutely mind blowing. I have been debating whether to become an EMT or not for months. 14 DEC 2015 was a night that changed my life. Traumatizing to say the least. I was lying in bed when I heard an accident out front of my house. I got dressed as quickly as possible to go help. What I came upon was heart wrenching. Long story short. A young man hit a woman and her kid head on. The kid didn't make it, we did the best we could to keep him alive to no avail. He died on scene. This moment has made me question if I received EMT training would the outcome be different? Would a young mother still have her young child to love? It ate at my soul to see this I love children, they are the treasure of life. However it has made me decide I will become an EMT and I WILL FOREVER do my best to try to prevent another tragedy like this on my watch. THIS SONG HAS HELPED ME OVERCOME THE TRAUMA AND GRIEF! THANK YOU DISTURBED!!

This song has so much truth in its lines. Since my childhood, which was characterized by violence and abuse, I have been going through a very difficult time. I have suffered so many losses, suffer from depression myself, PTSD and borderline and an emotionally unstable personality disorder. But today, at the age of 34, I have achieved so many things that would have been completely impossible for me back then. I have a permanent job, an apartment, a network of helpers and incredibly great friends who have my back and always help me get back on my feet. In my head I keep going through hell when the inner darkness threatens to engulf me but songs like this make me realize that at the end of the darkness there is light again and I can't give up, it makes me realize how far I've come have already done and that there is still so much strength in me because I still long for stability and a life in which I can smile sincerely and help people who are similar to me. Thank you Disturbed for your many songs that always give me strength in dark times.

Heard this song for the first time today! 😮 Mind blown! Lost my parents in the space of 15 days apart. Just a little over a month ago. Can't seem to deal with it well. Then to add insult to injury, my only sibling - sis - is bad mouthing me with family members. I was destroyed!! But, I no longer question it all. This song is the epitome of how to live moving forward. I feel as if God has revealed the answer to me... Thank you!

I’ve had one very heavy past two years. Tragedy after tragedy after disappointment (many times in myself) but so much beyond my control. I’m starting to see the light again but this SONG...it’s become my personal anthem. I can’t listen to it with a dry eye. The essence of the lyrics are chillingly accurate and the timing is no less miraculous in my life. At this time. On this day. It lifts my spirit where I used to be and I don’t intend on going anywhere else but up. Wish I could thank them personally for what they’ve done. I am so blessed to have “stumbled” across it. Nothing is by accident. I was meant to hear it when I did and I am so grateful.

this song has actually forced me to face my ptsd, or at least the thing that caused it. i was at ozzfest this year and watched them play this song live. i will never get that imagine out of my head. seeing so many lighters and phones in the air. i didn't feel alone in that moment and i knew i found home. that people i never knew care more than i know. that i can't give up. maybe that good memory can be something i hold onto in times of darkness. maybe i can hold onto the light.

By your avatar name we are polar opposites (generic God-fearing Christian whose late mother betrayed my dad to be a lesbian when I was 5 or 6; still loved her and miss her because she's my mom but yeah, it's like that), but by your comment we are alike in that I found this song inspiring myself, and it's easy to feel like no one gets you. And no, I'm not going to get on your case or preach to you or anything. I just find it interesting how people with seemingly completely different backgrounds can agree on something rather deep. "Don't let hope become a memory" hit me hard. As I listened I was inspired but not emotional until that line overwhelmed me. The pandemic, health issues, a covid-era divorce after over a decade together, economic frustrations etc. have left me in exactly that state--where hope for a couple years now has just been a memory. My optimism and positive naivety that I always had throughout my life have been crushed. Maybe recognizing this can help start the healing.

Years ago the very first concert I went to which was also the very first huge thing I really did together with my other side of the family (my dad and sisters) was going the Disturbed Immortalized concert in Des Moines, Iowa on September 30th 2016. On January 1st 2023 my dad passed away and me and my sisters agreed on using lyrics to this song in the back of the obituary since it was the first real thing we all did together it meant a lot to us and was a fantastic memory so using this meaningful song on top of how meaningful and special going to the concert was together we thought it fit perfect. R.I.P Dad, gone to soon and I miss you so much.

This song is such catharsis. In many ways it's been a terrible year for a lot of people, and at their London concert last Sunday the entire room was absolutely taken by this song (and all their others). The contrast of a few thousand people holding up a sea of lights above us and just SCREAMING the lyrics together as one delivered the perfect juxtaposition of harshness and hope. Much like the contrast between the melody of this song vs. the part at 2:47). Disturbed has gotten me through a decade of tough times in all shapes and forms, and I hope they know how much relief their music gives to the audience.

To me, this song is about how people push back hope and God. Trying to hide them somewhere and they hear it call out behind from behind them once as they leave but spite it. But after you reach a certain part of darkness you go running back to the memories and hope you used to have. Sometimes Darkness can show you the light.

Darkness is powerful. It's frightening. It sucks the life out of everything and everyone around it. And it's here every day, from the moment you wake to the moment you go to bed, getting in your face and telling you "I own you. I control you, and you will do my bidding, day in and day out, bringing as much pain, sorrow, hate and despair as you can for my sake, and in the end I will claim you, and you will belong to me forever." It is in those moments, however, when the darkness seems strongest and you feel yourself nearing your breaking point, when you will learn your true strength, the strength to rise up and look boldly into the face and the heart of your darkness and say each day, "NO! I will not be your victim today!" The only thing stronger than the darkness is you.

Such a wonderful and beautiful way of telling you to do shadow work and to find your inner strength and mental peace by confronting all of your own personal internal and external demons in ones life. FEAR NOT for you are never alone and no matter how lonely or tough the road of life may seem, never forget that you are so much more than what you think and that your own spiritual journey was never meant to be easy or the faint of heart but if you can summon the courage and stay the course and follow through. The magic you'll find within and the person you'll become will be amazing. Never fold or give into the easy path or shortcuts,the shining path of internal and eternal truth can only be walked by those who would dare have the faith and conviction to stay true in all things and at all times.

Not all light sources are good. Sometimes sources of power and strength comes from the dark places in our lives. Remember, before happiness can truly be understood, suffering must be experienced to stand as a contrast so that you know yourself and what truly makes you happy. Embrace what makes you suffer as a part of you and overcome it without losing what it taught you.
