Love these videos, please keep up the great work guys. I'm a huge Disney fan and the parks are a huge part of my obsession (being a theme park fanatic also). I live in the UK so I go to Disneyland Paris a lot, unfortunately I can only make it to Disney World Florida once a year. (although I'm still very lucky I go once a year)These vids just make me even more excited for every trip I go

No offense because maybe it's just because I only went to Disney as a child three times, but I never even noticed or I guess understood or saw the auction scene in the Pirates ride. I don't understand how so many "little girls" were so devastated by it when I never even noticed it as a child. And if I did notice it, I doubt I would've understood it.

id like to say i totally agree with you pete that some people have a chip on their shoulder and want to complain about everything like the pirate scene, instead of trying to make everything better keep up the great work and you guys have a happy new year

The "free" dining was amazing for our trip late Sept this year, staying at Pop, the room discount was only $15 per night. When that equals one quick service meal&drink... PLUS! it was food and wine, so we really got to try everything we wanted in our 3 Epcot days without feeling bad about it! I would definitely do it again. We were also able to take home like 6 fresh rice krispies from main street! 😍🤓👍

We were unknowingly there right in the middle of the change in security. We went into Magic Kingdom the old way---yes, it's quite the crowd and it did take away from the magic when you see the entrance to MK. Two days later---the new way. But with the new change, we then noticed the delays on the monorail to go anywhere. So each had it's advantages/disadvantages---I do think the new way is safer so you don't have a huge group like that right in front of the entrance to MK.

So if I want to go to disney and I live in mn I will need 2 forms of ID now?

Dining plan doesn't save money for one person. Pretty much breaks even for two people. But for families with two or three children in the room, then you really are getting free dining for two-three people in your party. Free food for two-three people for a week is a big deal.

I'll miss the auction scene... As a red head myself, I did sit up a little straighter and with a bit more confidence when I heard "We wants the red head." 🤗

I’ve experienced the updated Pirates in Paris and I think it’s a fantastic update.

Just a suggestion. In the future, instead of being the top 10 most viewed Disney New Stories, I would much rather it being YOUR opinion on the top 10 Disney News Stories of 2017. Anyone can look at the top 10 viewed Disney News Stories, but with it being your opinion, it makes it more interesting. I still enjoyed this a lot.

As a red haired female I always got a kick out of the auction scene. This is a theme park attraction that harkens back to a time and place that was NOT politically correct. I think its silly that Disney feels the need to change attractions to be less offensive.

I agree with Charles regarding the female pirate. I have two daughters and it will be cool for them to get to see a lady pirate. FWIW, I was never offended by the auction scene, and I am a woman. But, I look forward to seeing the update, it will be interesting and I am sure they'll do a fine job.

Just got back from the WDW stayed at the Grand Floridian and while a great hotel the bus transportation was horrible! So I am all in favor of any method of transportation other than buses being available at WDW bring on the gondolas and I hope one day they suck it up and monorail to other parks besides Epcot and MK. Also sad about Pirates but I have gone to Disney 2 or 3 times every year for the last 6 years and I will ride it anyway. I like original rides, but change is change and Disney should not be stagnant.

The people getting upset that Disney is taking out the “We want to rape the red head” scene for a more modern, progressive, and inclusive scene are ridiculous. The whole Pirates franchise romanticizes pirates and plays fast and loose with historical accuracy, AND there WERE women pirates too (and some of the famous ones were gay or woc too) so relax.

What about the story that Dianey was now going to allow dogs at select resorts? People definitely lost their minds over that one!

You think Disney doesn't routinely make mistakes on their website? (WRT not listing 7DMT as open for the Halloween party). Then you don't know the Disney website. It routinely makes mistakes and has to be corrected. I've emailed them a good number of times to correct their mistakes.

Even though this podcast is almost two years old, I agree with Pete.

Wow. You're able to talk about the Redhead change without referencing the current milieu of #MeToo? That change was pretty darned prescient.

Unless you are down with human trafficking, suggesting that the change in the Pirates scene is because of "political correctness" is to willfully misunderstand and/or ignore the pejorative meaning of the phrase.

So the auction scene is offensive to women? Are people under the impression that pirates are supposed to be good people with modern moral and social views? Are the pirates supposed to be the "good guys" that are sensitive and set a good example? Do people understand what pirates are?

The auction scene change wasn't the end of the world, but was a bit silly move nonetheless. When Pete said the phrase, "It's not THAT they change, but WHY they change" I said "BINGO"! I couldn't agree more! Pete and I are the same age and can really see the difference in the way people saw/handled things when we were younger and the way it is now. The problem with so many people these days in our hyperly PC world is they don't know how to compartmentalize things. Is auctioning off any human wrong? Uh, yeah! But that's what pirates did. They also stole, murdered, and pillaged. Is that somehow ok and palatable? Pirates aren't good people. I mean, hello??? Is this the first time it's occured to you in the last 40+ years the attraction's been in existence? Do we now tear down the whole attraction? Do we just weed out the ones projecting "protected group" status and delete those scenes? Do we now start scrutinizing EVERY attraction with our morally superior PC standards? Who determines those "standards"? Can anyone person or social group who is "offended" about anything get equal consideration? Do you see the slippery slope what all of this brings? PC is NEVER "equal". You have to use common sense and put everything in its proper context. But in a world of being perpetually offended and butt hurt, common sense and choosing your battles wisely isn't a strong suite anymore. Anyway, lol, great episode!

I agree with your opinion pete. we live in a society where people over value political correctness and get offended over everything. for instance with trump entering the presidents attraction in MK everyone just expected disney to skip over him, I mean as much as I don't like the dude you can't change time honored traditions just because of PC. there are tons of presidents who did offensive things in the hall of presidents but they're still there. idk that's just my opinion though

I avoid terms like "political correctness" or "offensive" because they're so vague that they diminish the very real concerns of the people raising them. Call the scene what it is: sexist and hurtful, making a joke of trafficking women. "Political correctness run amok" is generally just people calling out a lot of the harmful, toxic stuff our culture is steeped in. I hear that it all sounds like nitpicking from your end of the table, but might be different for a woman who has had men taking control of her body, judging her worth based on her looks, from a young age. Also, the people who make these critiques, including myself, want to go to Disney and enjoy themselves. We don't want to nitpick. But we see these things, and they bother us, and we don't stay silent, because we think Disney can do better. We all can do better.

The auction scene ALWAYS grossed me out, even as a little girl. With all those women tied up and crying, what the hell? The last time I was there I sat next to a woman with her small daughter, and we both looked at each other in confusion and disgust during that part. Also, for the people who want it to stay because of its "historical accuracy"? Um, yeah the ride has also had Cpt. Jack Sparrow, Barbossa, frickin Davie Jones and the skeleton of a mermaid.That ship has long since sailed(pun intended). Also, Splash Mountain is an unfair comparison imo. The ride is very much detached from the Song of the South film, with no reference to the live action portions or the stereotypical cartoons and voices. Its just the characters and the song really (from what I remember).The auction scene in PotC is blatantly a sex slave auction. The depiction of human trafficking doesn't belong in Disney. Sorry if I'm a "snowflake" for thinking so...

Pete, w agree with you on many things, but we disagree with you on Pirates and the "wench-selling" scene. It isn't political correctness. Pirates isn't a museum or a historical monument. Have you had to answer a 7-year old's question about why women were being sold? The "pirates" idea can be conveyed without this scene. It's a good move.

You PAY extra to get that expedited passport. And then you hope the bureaucrats follow through. Don't take this issue lightly if your entire vacation is in jeopardy because of it...and btw, trip insurance will NOT reimburse for this issue. ONE MORE THING FOR THE REST OF US not in those magical "M" states--you KNOW this is going to slow down TSA lines at all airports even further as people affected who are NOT aware of the problem stop, argue, and generally take up time/space in front of us when we need to get to our planes....so plan an even EARLIER arrival at all airports and even MORE hours locked in captive-audience-hell within secure areas of them. Ugh.

They really needed a woman panelist there to explain why that redhead auction is gross.

I still fully support the change to potc. As a little girl that auction scene always caused me deep seated discomfort and unease and knowing that no other little girl will ever have to watch that scene and wonder what was happening to those women makes me very happy. While I cannot blame you all for being a group of men, I don’t think you would be able to totally understand my perspective as a young girl and now being a young adult having to watch that auction scene and hating it. I do understand that there are plenty of women who would disagree with my stance on the scene, and that if fine. However, even if this updated scene prevents just one girl from having to feel what I felt, I will be happy.

Why can't splash mountain change to feature Moana over what's currently themed: obscure and stereotypical. You could start on her island, meet Maui animatronic with dancing tattoos and the crab scene would be amazing-- all 'shiny'. Then it's dark and scaryish till your boat tip (which is the heart) connects with the valcano via Disney magic and you drop back into paradise. Why keep themeing just for themeing sack when new things come along to add more IP to the World?
