Great video Jill! I understand that gradient factors are personal but there isnt a lot of information (that i have seen) to help a new technical diver determine what is best for him/her. I even have different instructors that recommend different settings: one insists 50/70 is good setting and another suggests that 25/85 is a much better alternative. Can you offer any advice? Would you mind sharing the gradient factor you use? Thank you so much in advance!

Would be nice to know what being “bent” and DCS means.

Decompression illness, or DCI, is a term used to describe illness that results from a reduction in the ambient pressure surrounding a body. A good example of this reduction in pressure is what happens to your body when you're surfacing after a dive. DCI encompasses two diseases, decompression sickness (DCS) and arterial gas embolism (AGE). DCS, which is colloquially referred to as "the bends" ("getting bent" is the colloquial for experiencing DCS) is thought to result from bubbles growing in tissue and causing local damage, while AGE results from bubbles entering the lung circulation, traveling through the arteries and causing tissue damage at a distance by blocking blood flow at the small vessel level.
