We had different theme ideas indeed: Running into a forest during the night (but it was horizontal) or Alice falling into the rabbit’s hole...
@aimajica
@aimajica 3 жыл бұрын
The diving theme is so nicely implemented that it's difficult to imagine this game with a different one, but I have to admit that the "Alice" theme would have been also very appealing. This game is on my wishlist since I have seen its presentation by the "un monde de jeux" channel. Such a gorgeous game, with a great theme and simple but unique mechanisms. Bravo ! I am eager to play this with my family and it looks like a lot of fun... Only problem : will it get a release in Japan ?

I just randomly bought this at Gencon. I didn’t know anything about it but it was so beautiful. Then I saw that it had a kid friendly version for 6+ and that it had the dice tower seal of excellence and bought it. Very unique game, not like anything else in our collection so I’m very happy with this impulse buy.

What an interesting board game.
@Syncopator
@Syncopator 3 жыл бұрын
It seems like the main board needs a backlight. The lighting in your game room otherwise would make a huge difference. We already have a player who uses a flashlight just to read some of the fine print on cards because when your eyesight is sub-optimal, having extra light is essential. Without a backlight the board just looks way to dim.

Tom, this game sounds great. My only concern is that it would just be too difficult to figure out what level each are at. That is the only thing that would keep me from playing this game.

With so many ways to fail on the reveal, it strikes me that the game could turn out so punishing as to not be enjoyable.
@ddlhz
@ddlhz 3 жыл бұрын
We removed many ways to fail. There is a learning curve to win at DIVE. For instance, the plastic are thick, which implies that there is a space between two overlaping printed element; Slowly moving your head when watching carrefully, you can see that both printed elements move differently. It is subtil but enjoyable to succeed seeing this when other players do not. You do not have to play at random… but you can if you wish ;-)

Hmm. interesting. Guy, who did not play the says the replayability is low, but the guy who played the game many times says no such thing. Hmm, who you believe? Why would be the replayability low? Every time you got a different tile configuration, new outlook, etc.
@aimajica
@aimajica 3 жыл бұрын
It's interesting, because I feel the exact opposite :D. Since you shuffle the sheets, the setup is completely different each time. And there are a lot of sheets... I'm guessing that this game is so particular and straightforward that it will be a very divisive one. Obviously, it will look like it has a low replay ability to people who aren't drawn by the game concept and/or its simple mechanisms (guessing, push your luck). It appeals to me. It looks like the kind of game that you take out once every two weeks to have a quick, fun and unique board game experience with your family or guests.

Looks really nice, but the gameplay seems like a resounding meh to me. And the whole artificial catchup mechanic with the manta seems straight out of mass market junk games.
@ddlhz
@ddlhz 3 жыл бұрын
The manta ray is more subtil than that. Yes it can help to go accross many spaces at once, but if you are ahead of other players you can try to catch it so that they cannot. Also, the interest of manta rays vary depending the position of the player pawns on the track.

Not buying it. I had hopes for this game, but it’s a dud for me - great components, great theme, but the mechanics are weak and the replay ability is very low - guessing where a shark and Manta Ray are ? I’d rather play Mahjong ! A better match game. This is for some kids just graduating to middle school.
